We are driving from Baltimore to Orlando at the end of February. The plan is to drive straight thru on the way down (stopping for potty breaks & meals). We are planning to leave in the afternoon on Sat, Feb 24 and arrive @ OKW sometime Sunday morning.

We have found in the past that we can drive forever on the way down to WDW, but seem to get tired on the way home. So the question is, should we stop off by HHI on the way back?

We are planning on leaving WDW sometime on Friday, March 9th (probably in the early afternoon). Yes, this will be a 12 night trip. Should we try to get a studio @ HHI for the night of Friday, March 9th? Is it worth going to HHI for only one night to check it out? We could plan to leave after lunch on Saturday, and be home late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

Thoughts? Would you do it with a 4 year old? He loves to ride in the car and watch his movies. My DW and I wife enjoy spending hours together in the car. I know we are very sick people!!!!:scared:

I have three littles ones around your little guy's age, and I amass a lot of miles doing just NY to Baltimore to see family.

We did NY to Hilton Head in one loooooong drive. It was so totally exhausting. We drove through the night while the kiddies slept. We were spent. My DH and I vowed to do an overnight for any return trips to Hilton Head.

I have never been to the Hilton Head DVC, as that long drive was prior to our membership. I would definitely stay overnight somewhere along the way. I would be curious to check out the Hilton Head DVC. I would do a computer search to see if it is do-able to drive from WDW to Hilton Head as one trip. I would definitely stay overnight. 95 is a nice straight shot from Hilton Head to Baltimore, but the Carolinas take a deceptively long time to travel through even though 70 is the speed limit. My two cents: stay at the DVC in Hilton Head. The points are not that high. Check out the Hilton Head outlets. Bring lots of movies for the little one. Have a safe drive by being well rested.

:thumbsup2 We did exactly what you mentioned a few years ago... We were on our way back to home from VB and were taking I-95...

After about 6+ hours in the car, we stopped at HHI and checked into our Studio... We had dinner at HHI, swam, and were lucky enough to catch a campfire..

The next morning, we checked out of the room, but hung out by the HHI pool until 2:00pm or so... We got b'fast and lunch...

All in all, it was a good pitstop and allowed us to have one more Disney day before going home.. :thumbsup2

We drive from Boston all the time to WDW and HHI(we are members at OKW and HHI). We have made HHI the first stop on the way home from WDW many times (its 5-6 hrs); then stop again DC area. We love relaxing for the night , but we get 1 or 2 bedroom so we can cook dinner if we want and have the 2 tv's to please adults and our ds(15). It is even nicer if you can add two nights. We have not used it as a stop on the way down, but have stopped at our relatives in So. GA which is about an hour from HHI for a visit and ovenite before hitting the road to WDW.
