Lockoff & Dedicated 2 bedroom???

What's the difference between the 2 and why would I choose one over the other? Thanks!!

A lockoff is a studio connected to a one bedroom and booked as 2 bedroom. There is a kitchenette in the studio, and a door to the hall or outside. There is a connecting internal door between the studio and the 1 bedroom.

A dedicated can only be used as a two bedroom. The second bedroom does not have a kitchenette. In VWL, SSR, OKW, AKV (Kidani only will have dedicated 2 bedrooms) that second bedroom has 2 Queen beds in it. In BCV you have two kinds of dedicated 2 bedrooms, those with 2Q's and those with 1Q and a sofa bed. BWV has no dedicated 2 bedrooms, all of the 2 bedrooms that you book there are lock offs.

With our extended family visits we have always wanted and gotten dedicated 2 bedrooms because we do not want an exit in the childrens bedroom. We also want the two queens for sleeping comfort. We have had these at VWL and BCV.

Although things vary from one resort design to another, here are some general comments about Lockoff vs. Dedicated:

Lockoffs:
* Two external entry doors.
* Two telephone lines.
* Two balconies
* Two thermostats
* Kitchenette in second bedroom
* Queen bed plus sofabed in second bedroom

Dedicated:
* One external entry door
* One telephone line (rings all phones)
* One balcony (some resorts)
* One thermostat
* Extra closet space in second bedroom (no kitchenette)
* Two queen beds in second bedroom (some resorts/units)

The lockoff may work better if you have at least two adult couples in your traveling party. The Studio portion of the lockoff is more self-sufficient in that the guests can enter their own room via the exterior door without disturbing others in the group. If only one bed will be needed, the extra floor space provided by a folded-up sofabed is normally welcome. The two thermostats gives groups more control over their environment. Resorts like SSR only have one balcony in a dedicated by the lockoff has two by virtue of the two separate units which can be locked-off.

With a dedicated you typically get the two queen beds which works better for larger parties. There's more closet space.

Just to add ... it still depends!

We just had a 2 BR dedicated at BCV -- it had 1 door, 2 thermostats, 2 balconies and a another window, no kitchenette in the 2nd BR, but had a queen bed and the sleeper sofa! (by the way, the room was wonderful) !

The PP is right -- but some of the resorts/rooms are set up differently than others!

I think I liked the additional space of having no kitchenette in the 2nd BR the best. It really seemed like a humongous room!

Most of the time, if there is a dedicated two bedroom when you make your reservation, that is what you will get. Unless you request the lockoff. But if you reserve at BWV, you'll always get a lockoff. No dedicated two bedroom villas at BWV.

The one time we were at OKW and had friends joining us a few days later, we reserved a one bedroom for the first four nights, then a two bedroom lockoff for the remaining four nights. Just so we could stay in the same one bedroom portion. It took coordinating with DVC to make it work, but it worked out fine for us.

I booked a 2 bedroom at VWL for Thanksgiving week 2009...I was surprised when the CM at MS gave me my choice of dedicated or lock off. I took the lock off as I am taking my in-laws-it will give them some privacy if my DD9 is getting overbearing
