Local Favorites... What ones could you care less about?

I live within a half-hour drive to NYC. I have never been to the Statue of Liberty -- I always tell visitors it is too much trouble. I have, however, been to Ellis Island, which I think has a very interesting museum.

Never been to the top of the Empire State either - but sadly I have a wonderful picture of myself and then BF (now DH) on top of the WTC.:sad1:

karenos;)

I live on Long Island, NY and have gone into the City many times. But I have never been to the Statue of Liberty either. The closest I have ever come was on a Circle Line evening tour around Manhatten.

I live at the Jersey Shore but I HATE the boardwalk. My husband tries to bribe me to go during the summer but yuck I'd rather clean.;)

the state of Iowa is about to revoke my native-born status:

I could not care less about the Iowa State Fair.

I went once as a kid and did not feel deprived. DH went multiple times every year and we have to waste a day and a couple hundred dollars every year going. His job provides admission tickets and a few other things but the cost is still astronomical - and it's hot and sticky and smelly.

I'm from Iowa too and there isn't jack to do here. OOOH Adventureland.
BOOOORRRRIIINGGG. State Fair? Couldn't care less. Mississippi River Museum? Won't even spend the $45 on the tickets.

Iowa football games are GREAT to go to, but it's not cheap. Tailgating does me just fine.

We have cornfields. Period. I know it's a great place to raise kids, but as far as "entertainment" goes, we really lack in it...especially for kids.

OP,

WADR, the expression is "couldn't care less" or "could not care less." If you think about it, the other/incorrect way doesn't convey the sentiment you are trying to express at all.

Just a pet peeve, but one that always bothers me. Sorry.

This poster on page one used it correctly:

... I could not care less about the Iowa State Fair...

As for me, I have lived my entire life in Alabama and, even though some here would consider it blasphemy, I couldn't care less about NASCAR/racing and have never even been to Talladega (even though I live close by and have had numerous opportunities to attend for free over the years). :confused3

OOOH, I would have loved to have been there yesterday! My driver is Jamie McMurray and I would have LOVED to have been there to see the finish (even though he got second).

I think we all need to get the free attendance offers for our own state and swap it with the free stuff others get! LOL One man's trash is another man's treasure!

I'm from NH.
I do not like real maple syrup.
I don't care about skiing.
Apple picking is just OK.
Hiking and biking just means bugs and getting dirty.

I live in south-central Indiana. We have....let me think...um...um, oh, I got it: cornfields. We have cornfields. And hayfields. We go see everyone else's local (to them) stuff, cause we don't have much. :rotfl:

you need to get out more then....there are a lot of things to do and try around here at least once, besides look at cornfields. It's not Chicago / NYC / LA but there is still lots to see and do.

Austin, TX... Lived here my whole life except for college.

Hate 6th Street at night.
Never been to ACL Music Fest or SxSW. No desire.
Never been on a "Duck Tour" -- ugh.

The bats were pretty cool, but I could happily live w/o seeing them again.

Pretty much anything involving downtown and crowds is not for me (or my family).

I'm embarrassed to say that I live just outside of DC and haven't seen the sites since I was a teen. I even work in town. Maybe that's why...

Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ. Never been there, never will. Just don't have the desire. Also, minor league baseball; unless I know a player on a team, I have no interest.

Visitors to Pittsburgh are always told they have to eat a Primanti's sandwich, where they pile fries and coleslaw on top of the sandwich. Never done it, don't care to.

We do visit many local museums, although I haven't been to Kennywood in years. Not really sports fans.

I am surprised by those who don't like real maple syrup. We order ours online about 4 quarts at a time! Everyone's different!

I grew up in Brooklyn and worked my entire working life in NYC and never had any interest in any tourist trap. Now that I'm gone I'd LOVE to go back and see them!!

Here in Atlanta I've never been to the Aquarium... :confused3 don't GET it!

I am a beach person but I absolutely hate the Venice Boardwalk.

Go be homeless someplace else. Yes, I know you can dress up like a freak and act like a freak. I don't care and just go away. :thumbsup2

I wouldn't ever go except my husband used to live there and still likes to visit.

I live in a very touristy area in the mountains of New Hampshire.

I don't ski even though my daughter works at a ski area and gets passes
I hate Storyland and only go because I have to when company comes
I've never been rafting or kayaking on the Saco
I think the Conway Scenic Railroad is overrated
I think the Fryeburg Fair is overrated and too crowded to enjoy
I don't snowmobile

:scared1: That should be illegal to live in VT and eat Aunt Jemima. I have family that lives there that sends me some real syrup every year!!! :rotfl: (it's less for them to buy it and ship it to me than I can get it for in the store here, the good stuff that is)

Another Vermonter here...my DD's eat Vermont Maid syrup :lmao:(the cheap imitation stuff, at least it has Vermont in the title):rotfl:

I love the real stuff though;)

Here are my random thoughts.

I've lived in a suburb of Chicago all of my life and I have never been to Lincoln Park Zoo (I've been to Brookfield a million times), the Planetarium or the Hancock. I only been to Willis Tower (formerly Sears tower) once and that was about 15 years ago. Many years ago when I was in elementary school, we would go to the Art Institute, Symphony and the Field Museum. I haven't been back since. The last time that I was at the Shedd was about 13 years ago when I was a chaperone for DD's class when they "slept with the fish".We do go to the Museum of Science and Industry every few years. We try to get to Michigan Ave and State Street at Christmas time but again, that's usually every few years. I have never been to any of the beaches in Chicago but I grew up driving to the Warren Dunes in MI several times a summer. The only time I have ever been on city bus was to take a shuttle from Grant Park parking to Soldier Field to watch a Bears game in 1985. I've been to Wrigley Field a few times but never to "The Cell". I've taken the train to Union Station and then we walk. I have never been in a taxi.

Funny, patsmom, we went canoeing on the Saco last summer on vacation! (Too many bugs!)

I'm sure tourists to an area see and do many things the locals don't bother with.

I grew up in Cleveland, and even though we visit frequently, I have never been to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

Wow...I must be the only one who lives near a major city (Chicago) and has visited nearly every tourist attraction! Chicago never really struck me as a "touristy" kinda town though.

I don't live near a major city but I've lived in several different areas of the country and lived in Germany for a year and I love to hit all the tourist areas. We go to the zoo and the local museums and travel around the state to do different things.

Once when I lived in New Mexico, we took visiting family to Aztec Ruins National Monument. It was only about 20 minutes from my house and it's much more accessible than Mesa Verde. The ranger was doing a presentation and asked everyone where they were from. There were people from Michigan, from Virginia, from California, from the UK and then it got to me. I said, "Farmington" and the ranger laughed and said, "Well, thanks for getting up early and stopping by on your way to work!" :lmao:

I think it's just so easy to pass these things by when you live close and always mean to visit "someday." On a trip to England, I made my stepdd go to St. Paul's with us. She told me she passed it on her way to work three times a week and had never been in.

I live in downtown DC. I enjoy going to the museums and monuments occasionally, but I have never been (and will never go) to Ben's Chili Bowl.

I also tend to avoid the three-block radius around the Gallery Place/Chinatown metro stop unless I'm going to the Verizon Center for a game or concert.

The Rock and Roll HOF. It is basically a Hard Rock Cafe without the food. They don't even bother having the induction ceremony there which is pathetic. At least down in Canton they do the induction right there.
