Local Favorites... What ones could you care less about?

I'm also very close to NYC and have yet to been to the Statue of Liberty and other popular ny destinations. I did make it a point to go to the top of the Empire State building after 9/11 though. I always wanted to go to the top of the WTC building as a little girl and my mom told me "don't worry, we come all the time...they'll always be here". Wish that had been true... :guilty:

I am from New Jersey or as others might say "The Jersey Shore"....yup, right smack in Seaside Heights where that dumb MTV show took place.
They tried to make Seaside a family place and then they went and ruined it with the show. Though going to the beach would be my normal "local" thing to do, I don't plan on doing much of that this summer since it will be taken over by partying tourists.

I also live in Vermont (hi, neighbor :goodvibes), and we do lots of the Vermont touristy stuff. The kids ski (I tried and it wasn't pretty), we snowshoe (the kids do a snowshoe club in school) and ice skate (the kids play hockey). We have done apple and berry picking every year that I have lived here. We also love real maple syrup and try to get to a sugar house during sugaring season every year. We have been to Ben & Jerry's and the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory.

We figure we ought to enjoy the same things everyone else enjoys about our state.

I have lived in Nashville, TN my whole life.

I hate country music. I mean really can't stand it.
Have never been to the Country Music Hall of Fame
Have never been to the Grand Ole Opry.
Don't care for The Loveless Cafe.
Went to the Bluebird Cafe once in my life and couldn't stand it.
Never been to The Hermitage, the home of Andrew Jackson.

What's really sad is that my best friend in the whole world is a songwriter who writes/performs country music. What they say is true...opposites attract!

I live near the "city of live mermaids" Weeki Wachee. I find it to be the most boring place ever! Busch Gardens is pretty close to getting on that list too.

Up until a few years ago, I lived 1 1/2 hrs. from NYC. In the 8 years that we lived there, I never visited except for a day at the Bronx Zoo which I hated compared to other zoos. I am just not a city girl and my kids were little, so I just did not want to go.

I live in New York City. I guess the only thing I don't have an interest in seeing is the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show. Other than that, I've been to every tourist attraction.

I live in southwestern CT, so about an hour north of NYC and an hour south of the Indian casinos at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.

I have been to the casinos but don't plan my life aorund going there as many do. I thin my last trip was baout or 3 years ago.

I have been to NYC, never to the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty.

Boston area here. The Boston marathon attracts so may spectators, but I could never just stand there all day and watch people run. I also don't care for witches and the whole aura of Salem, Mass. Finally, while I love the Beacon Hill area, I never watched 'Cheers' and don't care about the restaurant, it is just a silly tourist trap.

I lived in the NYC tri-state area until I was 23 and never been to the usual spots, Statue of Liberty, Little Italy, WTC, etc.

Now I live in Louisville. I've only been to Churchill Downs and the Louisville Slugger Factory when family was in town. I love baseball but have no interest in horses or the Derby!

I live near the "city of live mermaids" Weeki Wachee. I find it to be the most boring place ever! Busch Gardens is pretty close to getting on that list too.

We've only been there once but I loved it! I like mermaids though. I was also very impressed with watching them 'dance' without much oxygen and eat. How the heck do they eat under water?

I live in Australia, near Australia Zoo, home of the 'Crocodile Hunter'/late Steve Irwin. I've been twice and won't be going again - it's boooooooorrrrrrrring! :rolleyes2 (I only went the second time because DS2 begged me to go as a chaperone on his first ever school trip).

I live in the same state as the Great Barrier Reef and have never been there. I spent the first 16 years of my life living only a couple of hours from the snowfields in New Zealand, yet have still never seen snow (hope to rectify that one day).

On the flipside, I have been to the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building a few times.:rotfl:

I've lived in the western suburbs of Philadelphia for almost 10 years. I've never seen the Liberty Bell (except for catching a glimpse of it as I walk by) or Independence Hall.

Grew up right outside DC for 20 years...

never did a whitehouse tour
never did a capitol tour
went to georgetown once
went to splashdown water park once
only went to kings dominion for 8th grade field trip
only went to bush gardens for band trip

now we live 45 minutes north of Los Angeles

we dont go into hollywood
we only go into beverly hills when we go to cedars-sinai hospital
we don't go to venice beach

Most people in the area where we live never go into the city....they live in a great big bubble up here

I live in Las Cruces, NM and there isn't much to do here but there is stuff to do in Albuquerque, NM. There are several malls up there along with historic downtown, the balloon museum, and the balloon fiesta. Sad to say I have only been to 1 of the malls. lol. Living in the middle of the desert doesn't leave much room for entertainment. The only cool thing near Las Cruces is the Double Eagle restaurant in Mesilla, NM. It is supposedly haunted plus it has really really good food.

I lived in FL (Jacksonville) for my entire life (moved 10 years ago) and, GASP! Went to WDW maybe a total of 3 times!

We live in the mountains, near Gatlinburg, now - all the restaurants people "can't miss" while they're here, most recommended - bleh! The Old Mill, Apple Barn, Pancake Houses, Catfish whomever's, Alamo Steakhouse - yep, we've been to ALL of them and took them off our list of places we'll eat!

Northern CA here and never rode a cable car or as another poster said, walked the Golden Gate (true Californian here, why walk when I can drive LOL).
Even though I've been to FL, IL, MO, KS, MI, IA, OH, OK, AL,TN, TX,Arkansas, Arizona, NM, MS,CO NV and across the Windsor Bridge into Canada, I have yet to drive 4 hours north to Oregon or WA.

Wow...I must be the only one who lives near a major city (Chicago) and has visited nearly every tourist attraction! Chicago never really struck me as a "touristy" kinda town though.

I moved out to the town I live in currently 10 years ago, and I now live near Starved Rock State Park...which attracts visitors from all over the world. I LOVE going there and hiking or just hanging out in the lodge or something...but I couldn't imagine going there to spend a week or something. Even spending a long weekend would be stretching it. There's just nothing in the surrounding area to do!! NOTHING. :lmao:

There are various local restaurants here and there that everyone says are just the greatest...but growing up near a major city and in the suburbs makes me think otherwise!!! :lmao:

I live in Hawaii and I'm racking my brain trying to think of something "touristy" that isn't that great or I won't do...

Nah...it's amazing here LOL.

We moved to Indiana in 1997. We have done a few things, but it was brought home last Thursday night that we really need to check out what is offered here. Just went to the Studebaker museum on Thursday and I was amazed. I will be taking my boys this summer. I think the one thing that people want to do when they visit that I start yawning about is Shipshewana. The town is great, but very expensive. The flea market is the same stuff over and over and over. Just finally made it into the auction, had to stop my mom from talking with her hands. She almost bougt some bedroom furniture without knowing it.
