Just got back from a quick over night last week. Drove from Sarasota while visiting Dad. Anway, we had lunch at Coral Reef, first time. I had the catfish, not blackened, and cheese grits. It was very good, especially the grits. I had the lobster soup as a starter (we had deluxe dining plan).

Ok so the lobster soup, while very tasty, had a strange VERY thick consistancy. I know it's a thick cream soup, but this was the thickest soup I've ever encountered. I even asked the waiter if it was normal. He said yes. Anyone else find it too thick (but good) ?

Nope! I loved it! Thick yes, but very creamy and tasty. Had it this past Sept. It is one of my top 3 soups in the World::MickeyMo .

1. Lobster soup @ Coral Reef :fish:
2. Cheddar Cheese soup @ LeCellier
3. Strawberry soup @ 1900 Park Fare

If it is done in a Lobster Bisque style then it is traditionally thick. Yum! I think I might have that when we are there!

Ooh I love thick soups, cannot wait to try this next week

Yes, it sounds normal. I mean it could be made different ways regarding the consistency of it, I usually have had it when it is "thick" . I mean I am a total lobster die hard, and lobster bisque is on the top of my list of favorite soups, so while I thought CR's was pretty good, I have had much better elsewhere.

Hmm, try the soups and Boma then repost your list! ;)

I did...We tried Boma this past Sept for the first time. I tried one soup...that was WAAAAY tooo sweet for me..carrot maybe? I didn't love Boma...only because I didn't care for the particular seasonings. :) Just a personal taste thing though.

Mentioned this to the wife and she put that on the list of things to eat when we get to WDW this Saturday! Doing the Reef on Tuesday night!

It's a cream soup, but if it was really thick, it's probably just been sitting in the pot on the heat too long. Lobster bisque should have a consistency thicker than water, but definitely not be like a pudding.

Not like pudding. That would be gross. :crazy2: I must say, my family had dinner at the Coral Reef and I was the only one who enjoyed a part of it -- the lobster bisque.

Like pudding but thinner. Definitely thicker than any normal cream soup. Like thin paste. Let me reiterate that I like the taste alot- just not the consistancy so much. I even put in an ice cube to thin it down.

That pudding analogy is a good one-- it was closer to thin pudding than thick soup. But I'd have it again!

I love the lobster soup, it is #2 on my list! (#1 is potato soup at R&C)
It is quite thick, but I don't mind it.

It can be a very filling meal with some bread. I can feel my hips getting bigger just thinking about it.
