Well, semi-live as I am beginning 12/31. My wife and son, 4 1/2, began our trip at SSR on Monday and are checking out today to move to ket west for 1 night and then it's off to BLT 1/1-1/3 and BWV 1/3-1/6. Then they go home and i am at Carribean Beach from 1/6-1/10.

12/28 Awoke to 4 inches of new snow in Cleveland Ohio, our first real snow of the season. No way am i firing up the snow thrower just hours before i arrive in sunny Orlando.
Arrive to the airport in Cleveland with baggage to check for our direct flight on Continental. Had checked in on-line and we were all set for row 7, seats a,b,c. We have 2 reservations, one for me and one for my wife and son as my trip is part of a work trip and i had to book separate. THey check in no problem, me, i have problems as the kiosk is not accepting my reservation. With the help of an agent we determine that i have been upgraded to first class. Cool. I offer to let my wife sit in first class but she declines. It is at this time that we discover their tickets do not have seat assignments. The agent that helped me tells us to check in at the gate. we get to the gate and "Oh there was a plane change, blah, blah, blah and we have you in row 26 and row 29. At this point everyone realizes that a 4 year old is not going to sit by himself. After semi-calmly expressing our displeasure with the way things have transpired we walk away with assurances that they will work things out. They did and my wife and son were together in row 11.

Magical express, if you've not used, it is on the B side, not the A side which is where I've always gone and most will go to pick up luggage. If you are picking up luggage, you still have to go to the A side, at least for domestic flights. ME was quick and efficient, no issues whatsoever.

Check-in, couldn't have gone smoother. We got to SSR about 11:00 and our studio, 2323 in Congress Park was ready. DTD view, no complaints at all. Weather was mid to upper 60's and sunny, very nice. At this point it is lunchtime and we have no luggage so we decide to head over to downtown disney to grab a bite to eat. I also want to pick up my tables in wonderland card. We decided against the meal plans as we are just not big eaters, but i do like discounts.

Several things i will update throughout this trip report are 1)Buses, 2) Reservations, actually lack of as we made no advance reservations 3) TIW discounts and 4) Restaurant reviews.

With a 4yo we didn't want to walk to dtd, so we went to the bus stop and 5 minutes, first bus, dtd, look at that.

Had lunch at Rainforest cafe, i realize this is a chain, but i really like their lettuce wraps. Disappointment, no lettuce wraps on the menu. Nothing noteworthy here, except i used my 10% dvc discount for a total of $0.70 as it was only good on entrees and my wife and i got several appetizers.

Hopped the bus back, another 5 minute wait and luggage was in our room waiting for us. Next stop, the pool by our room, not the main pool. Still very big and nice, just no slide. Here's a tip about checking pool temps. Don't do it by the steps as it is shallow there and much warmer then the middle of the pool. Pool time was a mix of pool and hot tub. Mostly Hot tub for me and pool for Reily and Mom. Pool done, head back to room for little guy nap and head to artist palette to get some supplies(beer) for the room.

Surprise, the TIW card works for discounts on all food and drinks, not just restaurant stuff. So a can of beer that cost $6.00 is "only" $4.80.

We decide to eat at the Turf Club at SSR. We call for reservations at about 5:30 and are able to get 8:10. Get there at 7:55 and are seated at 8:30. Service is very slow, food was very good. I had the prime rib and it was very good. My wife ahd the Ceasar salad and crab cake appetizer and was very pleased. TIW card saved us $8.89 and while an 18% gratuity is automatically added in, we generally give 20% so we saved a little bit more. Yes I know i can give an additional gratuity, but unless the service is outstanding, for this trip i'll stick with the 18%.

That's it for day 1. We head to Hollywood studios on Tuesday.

Thanks for the report! We just left on the 27th and it was cold!! We would like to get the TIW card in June. Could you please tell me when yours expires? I was hoping that it is still about 13 months as we would also like to use it in July 2011. TIA :goodvibes

My wife and son, 4 1/2, began our trip at SSR on Monday and are checking out today to move to key west for 1 night and then it's off to BLT 1/1-1/3 and BWV 1/3-1/6. Then they go home and i am at Carribean Beach from 1/6-1/10.

Wow, that's a lot of resort changes!

Trip started off being just 1/1-1/6. I wanted to try both BLT and BWV, so that's what i booked. When i started checking flights and thinking about fl in dec/jan vs. cleveland, we decided to come in early. Rooms were tough to come by and i had to take what i could get. With Bell services picking up luggage and delivering to next stop, it really hasnt been too bad. The little guy likes the adventure of moving, so it's worked out.

Day starts off as they all will with me walking to the artists palette to fill up our mugs with coffee. We've never done the mugs before, but it seems to be working out. Plus with our TIW discount, the mugs were only 11.50 each.

Using the TIW card we have saved $29.17 for the first 2 days. Card is good until 1/31/11, so a little more then 13 months. With another trip next Jan, this is definitely worthwhile purchase at $75.

We decide to go to Hollywood Studios today as that is the recommended park from Tourguide Mike. I paid for the planning tool and we are following his advice. I'll let you know how it goes.

Anyway we get to the park at about 10:00 am as wife and son are not early risers on vacation. I have an annual pass and i purchased 2 discounted 7 day hoppers with water park and more through the marathon. Saved about $100, or so I thought. Before I forget, our bus wait was about 5 minutes. I go through the turnstile first no problem. Then my son...problem..ticket not valid. So we head over to guest services and the tickets are not good until 1/1. They let me transfer the value of those tickets to new tickets, but i lost the discount. I got rid of the water park option as the weather didnt look like we were going to take advantage of that so for $50 more we were good to go.

Headed over to toy story mania to get fast passes. Got them for 7:50-8:50, wow. Since i wasnt sure if we were going to be at the park all day we decided to get in line as this is Reily's favorite. We waited about an hour 20 minutes and i must say reily was really great. Not wanting to push it though, we decided no more hour plus waits. Next was Prince Caspian with the photo op and presentation. The narnia movies are a favorite, so this was very well received. We had a little competition on Toy Story Mainia, dad vs mon and son. Dad won 131,100 to 131,000.

At this point it is about 12:30 and we are hungry and without reservations. We try the Sci-Fi dine-in theatre, put our names in and wait about 15 minutes. First time there and i must say kinda fun. I had no idea what it was going to be. I want to give an a+ for service to Jorge. As I mentioned in my last post, we're not big eaters. I started with the soup and then Mary and I split the reuben. Our food was delivered on separate plates, each of us getting our own pickle. I thought that was a nice touch, something that certainly doesnt always happen.

Weather by this time was warming nicely and we headed over to the lights, motors action stunt show. Very enjoyable and entertaining. We get out of there around 3:15 and the little boy with us is getting a little sleepy and a little cranky. He still gets naps everyday and if he misses, look out.
Do we hop a bus and go back to SSR for a nap and then come back, 20min ride each way, plus bus waiting time, eke. But dad's got a better idea. We get on the boat that heads over to Epcot and I tell Reily if he takes a nap here, we don’t have to go back to the hotel. So we ride the boat for 2 complete circuits and Reily gets about an hour and a half nap lying on my leg. By the time he gets up, the sun is setting and we can go back to Hollywood studios for the lights and our fastpass. He's also managed to drool big time all over my pants, it didnt look good for me, but i didnt care, he was refreshed and ready to go. I even encouraged Mary to get off at Boardwalk and head over to ESPN to get a beer while I rode the boat.

The lights were breathtaking. They even had a snow machine on one of the roofs which was a nice touch. A great display and one of the reasons we are braving the crowds. Next we hit the muppet show and then character meet with woody. Time to use those fastpasses. They werent "eligible" for about 10 minutes and, we had to wait, no early ins. The wait time is at 150minutes wo fastpass. This competition was not close. Riding with me Reily doubled his score from the morning round and he and mom easily beat me. Oh well, cant win them all.

Time to call it a day. Bus wait is about 10-15 minutes. Not too bad. We did try getting into mama melroses, nothing available. We ended up getting some munchies at Artist's palette.

A or B side for luggage depends on the airline. I know Southwest is A, Delta and USAir are B.
