Live From the May Repositioning Cruise

This is what I don't understand, Why weren't enough LE pins made so that every stateroom was covered? If you had been given a voucher per room for the entire set when you boarded know one would be spending the night in the hallway on deck 3. Also because they limited it to less then the staterooms on board it could mean that some people that paid alot of money to go on this cruise are left out anyway.

I got in the pin line this morning at 5:30. I was about #300 in line. I got my vouchers for all of the pins though.

It was quite a sight to walked down to deck 3 a 5:30 and see people sleeping on the floor and the line exending from Sessions to nearly the internet cafe. (I never saw the end of the line, but I heard they were having difficulty finding room)

I know for the next Member Cruise they are offering special merchanise (not pins) that you can order ahead of time and they will be waiting in your room when you get there. Seems like it would have been nice if the same thing could have been done for this special sailing with the shirts, pins, etc. If for no other reason than they see the demand ahead of time and saves people from those who want to be greedy about it. I hope everyone who wanted a pin set gets one.

I had sea bass for dinner and a pretty good ricotta creme brulee, in Animators Palate. I thought the lunch buffet was pretty good today, too.

My cabinmate and I are very much enjoying the murder mystery so far. We're going to another meeting tomorrow for clues.

We managed to get an extra blanket and Panama Canal book since we're unrelated persons sharing a cabin.

Tomorrow I am looking forward to the martini tasting and a Palo high tea (not at the same time) and a presentation about being behind the scenes at the Haunted Mansion (the ride, not the movie!)

I don't do pins, but I did get my hands on a nice blue tee shirt the other day. They're all gone now, I think.

Woo hoo! I'm glad you're enjoying the cruise so far. I can imagine what havoc we'd create if I were the third cabinmate again. ::MickeyMo

So you're Jessica Fletcher, and she must be Nancy Drew. The murder mystery sounds like a lot of fun. I can't wait to hear about the tastings and the high tea. The HM thing sounds so cool...

It's good to live vicariously through these posts.

The pins are limited to 500 or 1000 depending on the pin. I believe DCL or whomever made a huge mistake in not having at least one complete set per stateroom. I do not see the relationship between the cost of the fare and pin availability, but I think there will me a lot of angry people who are left out. Collectors not withstanding, many people see the pins and map as a nice, framable suvenier. I hope that DCL is reading here and decides to up the amount of pins available for the August crossing.

Seeing people sleeping in a hallway just to be able to buy pins is not my idea of the type of show DCL should be putting on.

Remember, this is my opinion. I know that there are serious collectors out there who not only want these pins for themselves, but would love the chance to sell any extras to the highest bidder. At least the voucher system and low numbers may keep some of that from happening.

Chill out.

Yep, I'd gladly buy Jeff the frosty beverage of his choice the next time I see him (and Jen), too.

Marsha - i agree. I've always been a pin collector, but not much of a trader or seller. A couple of years ago we were in Disneyland for California Adventure's first birthday. Of course they had special pins. While standing in line we heard a number of conversations from pin sharks who were already planning what their "buy it now" price on ebay was going to be. The girl running the pin cart was shocked when I said I just wanted one of each. :) I do use them as nice momentos of our trips.

I think DCL dropped the ball yet again with merchandising, too. The pin trouble sounds horrendous. I love pins, for collecting. I wouldn't want to camp out overnight to get one, though.

I'm curious about something (completely unrelated -- topic change!)'

What movies are currently offered on your cruise? pirate:

Great to hear you guys are all having fun, it's so exciting to hear all these details and it's certainly getting me ready for my repositioning cruise in August.

Just one small request if any of you sleuths can take a bit of time out from the murder mystery to find out if the servers Ronald or Libor (or even better, both) are still onboard? We're really hoping to see them again in August.

If you are talking about Ronald from India, he told us on 4/2 eastern that his time off started on 5/15. So maybe he will be back by August.

I agree this pin distribution sounds like a mess. I'm going to email DCL again about the Pin problem on the ship --- limited T-Shirt sales - so one group of cruisers can't by 30 at a time. :confused3

Karen - you are right we got a little shortchanged in that department. Didn't get a special CC gift either. I was really hoping for the throw that the other cruises that went to Antiqua that year got. But we made up for it with great DIS friends.

As for the pins - I'd be out there. I've done overnight lines before (Star Trek conventions, King Tut). It would be fun once. Glad to see they decided to release all the pins at once. Makes the most sense - i would think any pin collector would want the whole set.

It sounds to me that the Panama cruisers are really benefitting from the comments left by the 10 day cruisers. I don't think I said anything about pins, but I did say that there weren't enough special activities planned. For the most part, they took the usual 7 day cruise activities, added a couple of evening shows, and spread it all out over 10 days. There was nothing going on in the adult clubs the first two nights of the cruise!

It was still a great cruise. But I'm glad they listened.

Rose Greenthumb is my daughter (she is 17 today by the way so Happy Birthday DD) and she means Ronald from the Netherlands. Libor was from the Czech Republic.

We would love to request one or both as our servers in August so if anyone has any information that would be great.

What is the email address to contact DCL about this pin situation. I would also like to voice my opinions to them in hopes that they get their act straightened out and people who have paid thousands of dollars for their cruises arent forced to sleep in hallways just to get souvenirs. Certainly doesnt sound like the "disney difference" that keeps all of us repeat cruisers coming back year after year.

My family (including myself )collects pins; we started our own Pin Trading Club in New Jersey called the Central Jersey Disney Pin Traders over 3 years ago and it is more popular than ever. Twice a year we have overnight (48 hour) events at a local Hampton Inn which are very popular pin trading events with traders in the Northeast.

We like to buy DCL cruise pins because you can't get them anywhere else and not everyone can afford to cruise so they make good traders. We usually buy extras, but only for trading not to make money on eBay.

Ah no, definitely not our Ronald. He was from The Netherlands and Libor from the Czech Republic.

TigfanJeff..........yes, the rumor IS true about the wireless, someone told me that they are planning for the dry dock to add it.....the only hang up? How to charge......They lose internet cafe income and shutters would lose some from "uploads" from digital cameras if everyone brought the laptop....
