Live from the Magic!

For cruises out of Port Canaveral, there is a sheet telling the CM exactly what to charge for each upgrade. so if you are in an 11 and go to a 10, it is X dollars per person, per night, 11 to 9, same thing. There is no reason to think they don't have a similar formula for the Med and Baltic cruises.

... and my point was that decisions are made, and fees are set(requested) based upon occupancy ... whether it be overall ship occupancy, category occupancy, or "sleeps" occupancy (and combined). I agree that the have formulas, but we should expect formula to change, based upon occupancy. Therefore, what was charged for a cruise on "x" day will not necessarily be the same as a cruise on "y" day. Hope that makes sense.

In Florida the sheet with the price differentials is set and does not change from one cruise to the next no matter the occupancy. There are different charts for different length cruises but the price to upgrade from (say) a category 11 to a category 8 is the same on a ship with all the category 8s empty as it is with only one category 8 empty.

Did you have to stand in a separate line for your upgrade, or did you ask for it at the check-in counter?

In Port Canaveral you have to go to a separate line after checking in. I assume it will be the same in Barcelona/Dover/LA.

The line for upgrades was long and slow (as people need to 'shop' for a cabin). We did ask what the upgrade from an 11 to a Cat 2 would be...just under $3,000 I think it was.

The price for upgrades on THIS cruise were certainly not the norm and I'd love to see some of the prices others were charged, but only for curiosity sake...you certainly couldn't use them as any kind of guideline for the return cruise.

They converted them into dollars and then applied them to my account. So, there was an exchange rate to take into account.

Do they charge a fee to convert like the places at the airport?

Here is a start....but feel free to add.....
1. You try to put the toilet lid down before flushing ....even if there's none.
2. As you enter a restraunt you stop to look for the guy with the antibacterial wipes
3. At midnight you wake up and attmpt to call room service for a giant chocolate chip cookie
4. You can't sleep in your own bed because the bed (and room) isn't moving.
5. When you open your bedroom door, you look for a towel animal
6. You look for little chocolate on your pillows, and a Daily Navigator on your bed
7. You look at your bed, and wonder why nobody has "turned down" the bed yet
8. You swipe your credit card, in order to open your bedroom door
9. You ask a stranger (neighbor) for fresh towels
10. You call the operator for a wake-up call
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

11. You toss your bath towel in the tub, and are confused why it's still there when you come home.

12. Your neighbors wonder what all those decorations on your front door mean.

13. You go to sing (or hum) the tune over your headboard, and there aren't any lyrics there.

14. You keep waiting for the walls in your dining room to change color.

15. At noon, you pause to hear (tune) When you wish up-on a star . . .
but it never comes!
:rotfl:

16. You wonder why you haven't been announced as you enter your house "Disney Wonder is pleased to welcome the ...... Family"

They did them on Thursday night (at 10:30P) while the ship was just outside the port. We didn't dock till 5am (ish) Friday morning.

We went straight from the fireworks to the premiere of "Oceans". :thumbsup2

what's "oceans"
---Disney's new film venture ... DISNEY NATURE ... I think they are planning to make one film per year. Last year, they debuted EARTH, on Earth Day
(4/22/09), during the Eastbound Caribbean (inaugural to Tortola).

I think Disney works in conjunction with either the BBC or National Geographic.

---Understood, but it does not make sense. Heck, DCL adjusts their rack rates based upon occupancy, you'd think they'd do the same for upgrades (supply & demand)?

---Joi, are you keeping track? You could become famous with this list! :rotfl2:

We went from the fireworks to the adult comedy show and Pub Night...too funny I'd never seen it before.

Hey...any of you 1st Med cruisers checking in? Is Brent still the CD this week? I thought someone told me Yolanda was off starting with this cruise and thought they both might be on break right now.

It was strange (yet nice!) to have Brent, Peter and Clayton all on the same cruise. First time I'd seen Peter and he looked a bit intimidating, but was very nice whenever I spoke to him. Was delighted to finally meet Clayton after all the great things I'd read about him here on the DIS. :thumbsup2
