Live from the Magic!

There are McD's, Pizza Hut, etc (no photos can be taken in McD's!) and the whole thing seems very easy to navigate without a tour. We did the Valetta Historical Hunt; the DISboard team of Becx N Gav, Walter, intern Max and auntlynne won.

Auntlynne, how was the historical hunt? My kids (12 and 9) are interested in doing it. We really wanted the one in Tunisia, but it was cancelled.

Auntlynne, how is your knee? I hope it is much better so you can enjoy the rest of your trip. It was great to meet you and have lunch with you.
Cheers, Jennifer

how are you doing the internet connection? did you bring a laptop? if so can you only use it in your room or can you be up on the pool deck online? and - do you type everything out first then connect and send or is the connection fast enough that you can do everything once online?

i had heard comments about it being very slow to get pages to load which would suck up time.

thanks. happy cruising.

I brought my netbook. I only used it in my room but I saw people using their laptops all over the ship. The speed wasn't too bad. I just typed it like I do at home. Sometimes when I sent an email I didn't know if it went through or not. I would keep trying to send but it never changed to the next sent page. And when I posted on this thread, it changed to a blue page and I had to refresh to see if my post went through or not. I am not the most computer savy so things were a bit confusing to me but I was able to figure it out.

did you have to use cash at all? could you have used credit cards and not worry about exchange rates, or having the right money to exchange?

most if not all small stores in NA now have those debit credit machines. I wonder if they do in Europe too

I didn't buy much but I was able to use my cc in Cadiz. I took some pounds and euros but I didn't spend much. Had some leftover and I paid off my onboard account with them.

Can you please scan and post the navigators?

i love reading them but the ones on the board are very old

I will - just as soon as I figure out how. I need my DD to show me. Do you want them here or in a new thread?

hummm maybe a new thread with just the navigators

I use photobucket.com to upload my photos or scans from my computer. Then you can post the links directly from photobucket to your post. If you need help, let me know. This is a free service for a limited amount of photos or you can pay yearly to store more. I pay for a lot of storage which frees up space on my computer plus is a safe way to store pictures.

We also are fans of Don Ducky Williams and have been lucky enough to sail with him twice (but sadly never a "special litho" cruise). Could you possibly find out if he might be on the inaugural cruise of the Dream or if he might be doing a special litho for it? Thanks so much & have a wonderful cruise!

Yes and Yes

Home from our WONDERFUL cruise! Did a quick scan of this thread...trying to stay up till my 'normal' bedtime.

Couple of new things I noticed on this cruise.

Embarkation: (IN PORT CANAVERAL) Security photos are now taken by the CM who checks you in, no longer a separate line to get in for a photo. :thumbsup2 Upgrades are charged to your stateroom account (previously were placed on your credit card). I don't know if this is something you have a choice about, but putting it on the stateroom account worked great for us, as we were splitting the cost between three people (Cat 11 to Cat 9 $330...deal!)

The "Mixology" Tasting was GREAT! Don't know if they are doing it on the Meds, but should be on the WBTA. This is a group of only 10 people in Diversions and you get to go behind the bar and mix drinks! SIGN UP FOR THIS BABY WHEN YOU GET ON THE SHIP. It was $15 and I think they held it three times over the cruise. We did a martini, margarita, mijito, B52 and another fruity-boozy drink (sorry, I've been up for about 24 hours straight, can't remember the name) that was very yummy.

Jennifer....already miss seeing you and Dennis for our (nearly) daily Diversions drink (and chicken wings)! :grouphug:

Linda, loved lounging outside Cove Cafe with a book (that we often didn't even open!) and a blanket!

Will post photos probably this weekend.

more later....must sleep!

What is this two day getaway cruise I am hearing about (Jan)? and info?

I bought 500 min for $150. I think 100 min is $55 and 250 min is $100. It is posted on the DCL website somewhere...

You can use any kind of money to pay your shipboard account. I had pounds and euros. They converted them into dollars and then applied them to my account. So, there was an exchange rate to take into account. It is whatever it is on that day. Just like at the bank.

I have a photobucket account already but I recently got a new computer and scanner/printer that I have not played with yet. I never had a scanner before so I need to figure out where things go in my computer when I scan them. I know how to post from photobucket but it's the scanner that's the problem. Things are just a bit different from Win XP to Win 7 - and I am kinda old school. I surf and email, that's about all I do.

Jackie, glad to see you made it home safely.

Did you have to stand in a separate line for your upgrade, or did you ask for it at the check-in counter?

Thanks for the information. My DH is a Win 7 expert so if you have any questions, please let me know and I will ask him.

Anyone has more info on the prices to pay for an upgrade at the port for the Med cruises ? Trying to figure out whether we should go to the port early !

---IMHO, any current pricing for previous upgrades will have no impact on another sailing, since the ship capacity changes from sailing to sailing ... especially when considering the variations of changes from CAT "x" to CAT "y", and the staterooms available in other categories ... not to mention the capacity of guests in each available cabin (ie: sleeps 3, 4 or 5).

In other words, if there is an excess of CAT 9 sleeps 3 staterooms, but you want to upgrade to a CAT 6 sleeps 4 stateroom ... the upgrade comparison is moot.

if you buy 500 minutes but only use 100 do they refund you the difference? or can you keep them or another cruise?

For cruises out of Port Canaveral, there is a sheet telling the CM exactly what to charge for each upgrade. so if you are in an 11 and go to a 10, it is X dollars per person, per night, 11 to 9, same thing.

There is no reason to think they don't have a similar formula for the Med and Baltic cruises.

However, it is DCL and they don't always do the same thing in 2 or more different places.
