live from ssr, actually DQ

Hi Guys!
We checked into SSR yesterday after spending 2 nights at the Holiday Inn family suites, which were surprisingly nice. We are in a studio, #2836 and are moving to a one bedroom tomorrow, hopefully a waterview. Our room now is like a canal view. We got lots of welcome homes upon checkin and our room was ready for us at 11:30. The rooms are gorgeous and so are the grounds.. (I hate this keyboard) I can't wait to see the resort when it is finished. There is only one major drawback here and it is how far everything is away from our building. The walk to the boat launch is ridiculous. What were they thinking when they planned it. I can't find a question mark on this keyboard. Anyway, the buses are empty and we are usually the only family on boardd. We pretty much had the entire pool to ourselves last night. Hopefully tonight we can stay up late enough to catch the fireworks. Oh, my kids love the new type of sofa beds. Much more comfortable than the ole bar in the back type. DH says he would even sleep on it. Only 1 other complaint from DH, the pillows are too new and fluffy and he couldn't sleep (His pillow at home is as flat as a pancake and he won't let me throw it out), LOL.

Well, that is it for now. I have to go find my kids and kick their butts on Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blaster.

I would have to agree. We were in Congress Park, 2536 and just checked out yesterday. I am not at all used to how far apart everything is. Will this be difficult to get used to? ...Or will we end up staying elsewhere most trips? We're still up in the air on this one.

The resort is absolutely gorgeous and will be magnificant by the time it is all built. But I think it is the size that is intimidating me right now. Next stay we're trying for the Boardwalk Villas again.

Thanks for the report! Glad to hear about the sofa beds, so when we move from BWV to SSR my DS will be more comfortable.

I'm getting nervous about the distance from rooms to boat or walking path. We will have a car but I much prefer to use Disney transportation and was really looking forward to the boat and walk. Too bad they don't have the short path to DTD built yet, as it might detract people from returning. I am sure that once they have the new path in place, everything will be more appealing. It's supposed to be just a 1/4 mile walk with the path. Generally then, you could walk from your room to DTD and plan on taking the boat back from DTD to main area.

I'm curious about how the bus system is. Can you quickly hop on a bus to DTD? What is the distance from rooms to bus stop?

Just wondering what the difference is between the distance from the rooms to the boats at SSR and the rooms to the boats /community hall OKW? Is it as far as that? We have stayed at OKW a couple of times and that distance seemed like a lot to me.

For folks who want to stay close to the main buildings, you should book your next SSR trip to stay in The Springs -- which I believe will be complete in January. Those buildings will be right across the street from the main area -- facing the community hall and bike rental area. They will not, however, have the DD view. It will be a trade off with each set of buildings having their own draw. Frankly, we didn't mind the distance from Congress Park to the main buildings because we didn't need or use the facilities there very often. The quiet pool was lovely for regular swimming and the we only went to Turf Club and Artist's Palette every so often. When we did, it was usually right after the parks and we just had the bus let us off at the Carriage House. The main pool was very fun, but we only used it for one afternoon, as a change of pace, after going to the spa (which is right next door). Congress Park has its own bus stop, so that is no worry. As to the walk from Congress Park to DD -- the path is there, just not "officially open" while the construction is going on. And yes, it is a very short walk from Congress Park to DD -- 1/4 mile or so sounds about right.

Edited to add: Distance from Congress Park rooms to Congress Park bus stop is about 50 yards -- maybe a bit more.

Actually, one thing to keep in mind is they reused a good part of Main buildings of the Disney Institute when they developed the main area. The boat dock is one of these things that they reused. Mention that in your opinoins of the resort on the feedback card; they get enough constructive feedback on it, maybe they'll do something about it before construction wraps.

We noticed that the bus stop for Congress Park was centrally located and convenient to all four buildings within CP. And (correct me if I'm wrong) I think we saw that the busses stop at the Pool before heading out. That way you can get the bus to drop you off closer to the walking path/pool.

Next time we stay at SSR, we'll request to stay in The Springs as we would prefer to be closer to everything like Artists Palette, rentals, guest laundry (if we are in a studio), spa and fitness center, etc.

Amen to that. I really don't think that suggestion gets repeated enough here. Same applies to OKW. Busses pass along every couple of minutes at both resorts bound for SOME theme or water park, and all it takes is a quick inquiry of the bus driver to confirm that he/she will be stopping near the pool on the way out. It's really quite simple.

That there are laundry facilities at the quiet pools. I used the main laundry because I stopped by A-Pallete to grab a bite to eat, but the maps show laundries by each QP.


I had a rental car, so I parked in front of the DVC Preview Center, which is convenient to tthe boat dock and common areas.
