I think yesterday's post got lost, so I'm reposting. Checked in yesterday. It looked like buildings 32 and 44 are presently being refurbished. We survived the storms last night. Check-in went OK except that we didn't get a full-size resort map, just a little 4X6 map and also, no list of activities for the week. One amusing little incident we saw in the General Store. Apparently either rookie DVCers or renters who were giving the poor CMs there a hard time-"You mean, no coffee in the room after the first day?"...."And no filters?" "So how much are these filters? [holding some up in the store]...about $18?" Then the final blow [for him] was that his room key was rejected for charging. Off to MK today.

I forgot to say-villa is spottless clean, no problems so far, except the internet is a little quirky. But consider the source-I'm VERY computer illiterate. So who's really a little quirky?

Interesting. I thought the internet connection was flaky in our room at OKW last month too. Extremely slow at times. I couldn't even use my SlingCatcher which was very disappointing.

I wonder if this is OKW specific or part of a grander trend that the pipe's just getting saturated at the resorts. I never had problems until my last visit but that was my first stay at OKW (but it won't be my last!).

Do you know if I can plug in my wireless router and then everyone would have internet access on their laptops?

I also wondered about the smaller resort map we got in mid-March. Must be the new norm. :confused3

Have done it for years. Did hit a minor snag this time at OKW. Apparently, they are now using a Class B subnet on the outside and I had to use 3rd party firmware on my Linksys to make it work. This could be a real PITA to a non-IT professional IMHO. Tech support from Disney was worthless. I just happened to look at the gateway it assigned me and knew that it was a Class B subnet and since I couldn't ping it, I knew I had a subnetting problem. I installed SVEASOFT firmware and it fixed the problem. The latest firmware (which I already had installed) from Cisco/Linksys for my WRT54G would not work.

Huh?:rotfl:

So tell us more about OKW. How is the pool? Have you been in yet. Oh, and what size villa are you in?
:)

The scary bit is that I kind of know what you are talking about! I'll bring hard wire supplies just in case!

YIPPPEEE!!! You're there!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: Soon I will be too- arrive at MCO at 10 am on Friday- hope I see you Friday night at EMH in Epcot!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Wish I were there too! Please let us know what bldg, type of accom. and room #! Almost sounds like I want to drop in! Just trying to get a feel for how the resort is doing! Have a great time!

I'm suffering from OKW Lover's envy right now. Only consolation is I know I'll be there in a few weeks.:thumbsup2:banana::cheer2:

We are rookie DVCers and know that much. Well, i guess not every DVCer is a DISer:woohoo:

yes. it will cost if your not a member. But yes it should work. I've seen a few posts about travel routers

It should work fine. On a recent trip I discovered that there is a hub behind the nightstand that I could plug in a couple extra ethernet cables in addition to the "official" connection in the wall. Since I usually bring a few extra cables we were able to have access for three notebooks. Why? Kids seemed to be surgically attached to their social networks. :confused3

We'll be at OKW next week, only 9 days to go.:banana:

:)

We are in a 1 BR. After enjoying the beautiful weather and low crowds at MK and Epcot today I haven't SEEN the pool! I assume it's still there though. DH wants to visit Gurgling Suitcase tonight, but he's betting I won't be awake by 9:00. The weather looked terrible when we got up this morning, but I headed out anyways to MK, while DH headed to golfing. Within 5-6 minutes buses to all 4 parks came (of course MK was the last one). There weren't many people on the bus or in the park. Met DH for lunch at Biergarten (got ressies this morning), then walked over to check out Soarin' 55 minutes stand-by wait, and FP return time was 8:00-9:00, so we decided to skip it. Picked up blueberry muffins for breakfast at Boardwalk Bakery. Now, will I make it to the Gugling Suitcase tonite?

And someone asked where we are. Building 40, second floor. Not the best view, but it's pretty quiet and a short walk to both the bus stop and (it looks like) it would be a short walk to the Turtle Pond pool.
