Little girl gets knocked out during parade

Her daughter had a black eye. The dancer CM apologized. That should be the end of it.

What if it isn't the end of it?

What if the black eye (that did not present itself for 24 hours - after already being home) made you think as a parent, "maybe I need to take her to get checked out just to be sure. Only problem is, urgent care is expensive and my insurance won't cover it. It will be a week to get an appointment with my pediatrician."

At that point, why is it wrong to think about contacting Disney to see if they could help.

It's much easier to come to a decision fast and judge someone with little information than it is to actually wait for accurate and complete information and make an accurate assessment.

lol incident report... so official.

kids will be kids. and in that process they will get knocked down from time to time. not that serious.

Wow...not sure I can keep up with the pace of this thread!
If it were my daughter, the video would show the camera hitting the ground as I ran to her aid. The Dancer should have stopped and called another CM over, before resuming his dancing...although he might not have been aware of the severity that she hit, he surely would have felt the force on his elbow/arm?

I also agree with a few previous posters that he should have been aware of his surroundings at all times. Anyway, we would have sought out the first aid room at the very least...and then probably off to the ER to get her checked out (with our daughter...it wouldn't have been the first time!)

(now to post and hopefully still be on page 6 popcorn::)

But it's okay to blast their pictures on a public message board...aka, the internet.

Got it.

:thumbsup2

People put their vacation videos all the time on the internet, but you think something is wrong with that if the video records an incident regarding injury...yeah, sorry....I just don't agree.

You want to keep your kids off the internet, fine....I see no issues with that. But deciding when it is and isn't okay to put them on the internet and criticizing others for doing it at times you disagree with is judgmental.

He didn't have to know. He didn't have to assume.

What should have happened (and maybe it did, we don't know) is the situation should have been assessed by someone in a supervisory role and the incident should have been documented with instructions on what to do if something else arose.

There is a huge difference between sharing fun family photos here with people you chat with on a daily basis versus putting a video of your child in pain on the internet for the whole world to see. That is my opinion, and I am done defending it now.

Where are you people getting this stuff from.

Let's recap WHAT IS KNOWN!

She posted the video on youtube on 5/21. Yesterday she was approached by CBS in Orlando about the incident (for whom did this report). An hour ago she was approached by NBC in Orlando about the incident.

According to the mother, Disney "did not respond to the incident", but we have no clue what that means.

Did she exaggerate in the video's title? Possibly/Maybe/Probably.

From what she has said, she didn't cause a scene in the park and according to her, never talked to anyone with Disney about the incident except the dancer who hit her.

After that, she contacted disney (in what capacity other than email and with what message, we don't know). Maybe the incident caused concern when she saw the black eye and she brought her child to the urgert care/ER for with fear of a concussion....we don't know. If so, (depending on costs and medical expenses, that might be something you would want Disney to be responsible for).

What we do know is, she didn't make that info public. She was asked by the news station and only then did she say she emailed disney.

The judgements here towards the mom are sickening.

The mom is being criticized for seeking attention or making a big deal about something when honestly, her biggest "fault" was probably not making a bigger incident at the time. This should have been documented in case further incidents arose......this is patron/guest management 101.

WHAT IS KNOWN is that she's the one who put this video out for public viewing! That seems quite exploitative to me. If she wanted Disney to handle this differently, she should have taken it up with them the moment it happened and they WOULD HAVE HANDLED it INTERNALLY. I can think of no other reason for her to make a big stink out of this except to get her 15 minutes.

And THAT is sickening.:sad2:

It's a shame the little one got hurt, but even MORE shameful that the parents are seemingly trying to capitalize on an accident. :sad2:

When my youngest DD was almost 2, an elderly lady at Walmart accidentally knocked her down and she got a black eye! It was the day before her birthday she blew out her candles with a big ol' shiner!! :scared: It was an accident...no video, no lawyers, no newstations...a simple accident. The lady cried right along with my daughter as she apologized.

Bottom line post right here... Well said.

Goofy once backed into my son at 'Ohana when he was little and immediately gave DS tons of attention. DS wasn't hurt but I always wondered if the CM was trying to make sure that he wasn't upset and at the same time seeing if there was any need for further attention. I am a little surprised that more wasn't done by Disney but this incident hardly seems news-worthy.

not a Disney apologist by any means but -- from a business perspective, Disney knew nothing of this incident at the time it occurred. The CM apologized and the parent and child left. How does Disney know the black eye is from the incident? I know there is a recording of the child being knocked over, but no one from Disney was given an opportunity to determine if any injuries actually occurred at the time of the incident. The CM acknowledged they knocked the child over with an apology, they did not acknowledge any injury of any kind.
That is why people should make sure you report incidents to the company at the time something happens. You lose your protection if injuries show up at a later time if you have not reported it to the company. Taking a video and posting in or accepting an apology from a CM does not constitute notifying the company. Going to first aid or talking to a higher level CM and getting an incident report would.

You don't have to defend anything, but changing how you word something doesn't change what is..I can easily change the words to read like this:

There is a huge difference between sharing family photos here with complete strangers on the internet for the whole world to see on a daily basis versus putting a video of your child being being injured in an unfortunate accident.

It doesn't change the truth, just perception. You are criticizing a women for putting a vacation video of her daughter online when you have vacation pictures of your family online simply because you don't agree with what you think what her motives MIGHT be. Until you get the facts of what her motives are or actually know more details, it's being irrationally judgmental.

Primeval Whirl.
My Disney Management experience was on Primeval Hurl. It was really hot in August and the padding came away and stuck to my side ruining my shorts and top. Disney really stepped up. The replaced my clothes, tried to clean the clothes I was wearing (unsuccessfully, I might add. That stuff is like tar!) gave my DD a free container of nibs and back door'd us into the Nemo Show. I also won't let my my skinny little DD sit with my overweight DH on that ride because the lap bar is too high and there is too much room for her to fly around.

Thats exactly where the facts stopped and your opinion started...

That seems quite exploitative to me.
opinion, not fact

If she wanted Disney to handle this differently, she should have taken it up with them the moment it happened and they WOULD HAVE HANDLED it INTERNALLY.

Opinion and for the most part I agree. But, I do realize that in some instances there might not be reason to think there is an actual "injury".

I can think of no other reason for her to make a big stink out of this except to get her 15 minutes.

Again, opinion.

All we know (according to the mother) is she put a video online, her daughter has a black eye, Disney has not responded to her inquiry or that of CBS (according to CBS).

lol she was hardly just "putting a vacation video of her daughter online". she has 1 video on youtube and joined on tuesday.

I notice you're from LA. Interesting coincidence considering your replies on this thread... :scratchin

Was the girl injured, other than the black eye? No, according to the article. She had a black eye for a few days.

What else does the mother want? She received an apology from the person that caused the black eye.

Peope are just too sue happy these days. My daughter would be laughing and would want us to take a picture. Black eye from Disney she would say "HOW COOL"

This would have been my kid's response and ours as well. I don't see any need for anything else here.

Just a thought, but when I e-mail Disney, it usually takes several days to get a response. The amount of email volume is probably incomprehensible. I don't think that means Disney is not responding to the situation. It is quite possible no one has seen the email yet, as this incident only occurred a few days ago...

Yes, I am defending the lady because she is from Louisiana. That's the reason.

:crazy2:

What else does the mother want? She received an apology from the person that caused the black eye.

I don't know, and neither does anyone else at this juncture....thats the point.

People are criticizing her for suing and wanting financial concessions with no evidence of that. Neither she nor Disney has released any of that information.

Maybe the black eye which wasn't visible on day 1 gave her additional concern and she would like Disney to be responsible for precautionary screening or testing...something that is well within reason.

BUT, it would have been better and easier for all had that been handled in the parks.

This is exactly what happened with my ds and husband. The lap bar was face level and he was bending his arms to hold on. The cm let them through like that. Now let me tell you, my husband got a HUGE earful bc he should have said no way! And asked for separate seats. I was more furious with him than Disney.
