Little girl gets knocked out during parade

I think that all that was needed here was an apology form the dancer. He knocked the little girl down and siad he was sorry. No one had any way of knowing she would develop a black eye later. The dancer couldn't have seen her fall and wouldn't have known wether her har hit the ground or not. I an of the opinion based on what I saw that it is unlikely that her head hit the ground give how quickly she got up. I think the most likely scenario is that the parents didn't think much of it at the time until the black eye developed, and are now trying to see whatthey can get out of the deal.

She's being dramatic by posting the video online. Stuff happens when kids are active. They get hit, they fall, they cry, they scrape knees - these are things that happen to every kid. The only reason it's even a story is because it happened at Disney.

I was injured at the Polynesian pool once. I cut my finger on a pump that was not supposed to be on-nothing much happened at the moment, but I was later offered use of a Disney car to go to Sand Lake Hospital, which I declined because it wasn't that serious. I also had to fill out a form with my room number and what had happened. The next day, I got a phone call from someone at Disney following up to make sure I was okay.

Perhaps all this stuff occurred for this child, too. I'm not cheerleading for Disney here, just saying that they *do* follow up. :confused3

I agree with this. Disney is very good about following up with injuries that occur on property. Here's my story: Several trips ago, we were on a Disney bus to DTD. The driver wasn't paying attention and slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting the car in front of him, and about half the bus passengers (including very young children) hit their heads VERY hard against the metal railings. The driver didn't stop the bus until somebody ran up to the front of the bus and forced him to pull over, despite everybody screaming at him to pull over. My mom hit her head so badly she was dazed and nearly passed out. We were afraid she had a concussion, so once the Disney brass arrived to take statements, they took her to the hospital and paid for the entire hospital expense. And they called after we arrived home to make sure she was ok.

Accidents happen, and we felt like Disney did everything they could do for us in the situation. I'm sure if the mom was REALLY worried about her daughter's condition, she would have taken her to the hospital, which Disney would have taken care of for her. It sounds like the mom here is making a mountain out of a molehill.

She titled it knocked out, which is not accurate and she clearly said the kid was okay. Isn't it funny (read sad) that the media fails to show that part? I can't stand the news.
I noticed that on the longer video too. Sometimes people automatically say "I'm OK." or "She's OK." in that kind of situation because they don't want to bother the questioner. I have done it myself. "I'm OK" and then a little later I realize I am not OK at all!

Where are you people getting this stuff from.

Let's recap WHAT IS KNOWN!

She posted the video on youtube on 5/21. Yesterday she was approached by CBS in Orlando about the incident (for whom did this report). An hour ago she was approached by NBC in Orlando about the incident.

According to the mother, Disney "did not respond to the incident", but we have no clue what that means.

Did she exaggerate in the video's title? Possibly/Maybe/Probably.

From what she has said, she didn't cause a scene in the park and according to her, never talked to anyone with Disney about the incident except the dancer who hit her.

After that, she contacted disney (in what capacity other than email and with what message, we don't know). Maybe the incident caused concern when she saw the black eye and she brought her child to the urgert care/ER for with fear of a concussion....we don't know. If so, (depending on costs and medical expenses, that might be something you would want Disney to be responsible for).

What we do know is, she didn't make that info public. She was asked by the news station and only then did she say she emailed disney.

The judgements here towards the mom are sickening.

The mom is being criticized for seeking attention or making a big deal about something when honestly, her biggest "fault" was probably not making a bigger incident at the time. This should have been documented in case further incidents arose......this is patron/guest management 101.

If this would have happened to one of my kids I would have probably taken them to the first aid area and possibly file incident report so that it was at least on file. Whether the mom did that I am not sure because it wasn't stated. To me you can't go and blame disney or anyone else for that matter if you don't go and report it first. Just my opinion. I am glad that the girl is okay and hope it didn't damper the rest of their vacation.

I agree with this. Disney is very good about following up with injuries that occur on property.

Lord, did anyone actually click on the YouTube link and read what the mother said????

The mother said the CM apologized, but then just kept on dancing. KEPT ON DANCING. That's the problem. No one addressed the situation in an appropriate way - no inquiring about possible injuries, etc. No one apparently responded to an email about it later either. Disney was not "very good" on following up in this case.

And the mother did not keep on filming once it happened. The video clearly shows she immediately ran to her daughter. She just didn't stop to turn the video camera off in her rush.

She put a video of her child on YouTube. It doesn't get any more public than that, and no news channel would know about it without that video. No "sickening" judgements from me, but that doesn't mean I think what she did was right.

Not to make light of what happened, but I'm sure kids fall over or get knocked down at WDW on a daily basis. If the child hopped up and kept going, I'm sure no one though anything more of it. You don't call for a doctor every time a kid falls.

If the mom didn't think it was a big deal at the time, why would anyone else?:confused3

I understand that the mom would say "she's ok" and get her out of the street. She probably wanted to avoid a scene and calm the girl down. That's fine. But if they then not only left the MK, but left WDW and went home, how was anyone 'official' supposed to do anything about it?

I was just relating my experience with an injury occurring on Disney property. I said "perhaps" Disney followed up with this child. I guess they didn't and why is anybody's guess.

I want to make it clear I was not, nor am I blaming the Mom for any of this, or questioning her motives. I wouldn't do that, especially since I'm not a member of her family and don't know what happened other than what she posted on YouTube and the news report.

Oh please... ::eye roll:: in cause further incidents? It was an accident! Not like the dancer pushed her. And I agree. The mother should have did something then. Not be dramatic about now. Disney has 1,000 things come to them.. So maybe they haven't had time to respond. So lets tell our story to everybody. Unless she said something to somebody in person. She might not get a response over night.

I would say she did make a big deal about it by posting the video with the dramatized title online and then agreeing to interview about it with news stations.

Yes, the video was made public by putting it on youtube, but the contents of the email to disney has not been made public. Nobody knows what she is asking for, if anything. She has not made that public.

And what don't you think she did was right? What did she do wrong here?

If anything, her "fault's are for what she didn't do in the parks (if she didn't demand to speak to someone in some sort of supervisory role), not what she did afterwards.

If the mom didn't think it was a big deal at the time, why would anyone else?

Because most businesses have insurance policies that cover guests claims for injuries. In those instances, alot of companies want to have incident reports if there is property damage or an injury.

Both parties here (the CM and the Mom) should have wanted something in writing documenting the incident. At least the mom has a video, but she really should have gotten more.

I don't think it was right of her to post a video on YouTube.
I don't think it was right of her to lie in the title of said video.
I don't think it was right of her to give any comments to the media.
I don't think it was right to repeatedly tell the people the child was okay without thoroughly checking her out.

What i find funny when reading these boards is all the people defending Disney even when they are clearly at fault.

It is actually disturbing to some degree.

It is obvious from watching that video that the child was knocked down so hard her feet went flying in the air. In an incident where a child is knocked over and takes a blow to the head with that much force, clearly there is a liability issue.

It is actually quite sad that most people on here have blinders on when it comes to anything Disney, and decide to start bashing the parent.

The way I see it, is the CM should have been trained on how to dance appropriately when children are brought in to participate. The type of spin he attempted was clearly not safe or appropriate for that type of interaction. He was well aware of all the children within arms length prior to his attempt at that particular dance move. He should have used common sense and improvised with something more appropriate to his surroundings. the liability clearly lies with the cast member.
