Happy Friday everyone! My son (7) hates loud sounds. I was wondering if there's a list or thread out there of what rides to avoid? Thank you!

Most all of the attractions are loud.

Ear plugs can be very helpful.

Well...I would definitely say avoid Dinosaur...and probably Journey into Imagination with Figment (very loud train sounds in pitch black).

Otherwise...maybe some to be WARY of...
Maybe Pirates (cannons/gunshots), Great Movie Ride (gunshots...plus the Alien part even freaks ME out), Rock'n' Roller Coaster (loud music)...

Hmmm...I can't think of too many others that are immensely loud...Test Track is loud from the outside, but really isn't so loud when you're on it other than the wind rushing around your face...the "you're-about-to-run-into-a-transfer-truck" which honks it's horn might scare him a bit as it's sudden...

Probably missing some...though I'm sure others will have input.

The worst ride for me is, strangely, The Great Movie Ride. Not because of gunshots or any surprises, but just the volume level on the speakers. It's Tough to be a Bug is another one to watch out for. And I find that even standing in some queues can be too much (Buzz Lightyear can get ridiculously loud).

I've seen a lot of kids with noise protecting earmuffs like the 3M Peltor Junior Earmuff (can get it on Amazon). I have a pair (and a small head, so the junior ones work for me). I haven't worn them to the parks, but I have seriously considered bringing them to Disney Quest. I wear them mostly on airplanes and hotel rooms.

I also also suggest taking ear muffs of ear plugs because the volumes on many rides/shows can be quite high.

It would be helpful if you provide a couple of examples about what is "loud" to your son. What is "loud" to one person, might not be to another. Also, does he not like sustained loud sounds (e.g., volume turned up high on a TV) or unexpected bursts of loud sound (e.g., train sound in Figment's ride)?

Examples:
Jungle Cruise - the skippers show a pop-cap style gun to "scare" away the hippos. The pop can be loud (especially if you're near the front), but it's only a couple of times at most and isn't a deep sound.

Haunted Mansion - when the "body" falls in the "elevator", there is a crashing sound. Again, only a very short part of the ride.

Fantasmic! - some of the effects can be loud. There are fireworks (low level) and cannons.

Agreed about Dinosaur. It is extremely loud. It's so bad that I, with at least 50% hearing loss in both ears, have to hold my hands over my ears the entire ride. It's a great ride, but I really wish I could hold onto the handrail in front of me rather than keep my hands on my ears.

I have a tiny zipper area on the outside of my fanny pack. This is where I keep my ear plugs. I keep MANY ear plugs just in case I drop one of them. MOST of Disney's attractions are way too loud for me. As soon as I am seated in the attraction, I just put in my ear plugs. Much Better!

It would probably be more prudent to watch YouTube videos of the rides, see what they are and read about the individual attractions. What is loud to one may not be to another. You know your kid the best.

We got off of Dinosaur once and looked at the on-ride photo, and every single person on the ride had their hands over their ears. Pretty funny, but it hammers home the point -- it is LOUD!

Back when my now 19 y/o dd was just a wee little thing (I think around 7ish), we went on Dinosaur. I was pretty sure she wouldn't be bothered by the attraction at all. She cowered the entire time!! You can't even see her in the photo...her head is in her lap, with her arms over her head!!! It took years to get her back on. We finally found out that she has very sensitive ears, and loud noise is magnified a lot!!!! She had told us that it 'hurt her' but did we believe her? No, of course we didn't. Now that she's older, she just covers her ears.
But that one is really, really noisy.

I agree with the others to avoid Dinosaur. That ride is LOUD. My kids are teenagers and even they think it's too loud!

Beware the Magic Kingdom parades! My then-5 year old son was terrified because Spectromagic was so LOUD.

TSM line is insane even with ear plugs my dsis was crying. I suggest fp only for this ride. I agree with several posters most rides or their lines are very loud even several ts locations are noise HW&V being the worst dsis actually had to walk out of breakfast.

I've actually wondered about this for awhile, because I find all the rides/shows/parades in general pretty loud and most people consider me a loud-voiced person and I'm not averse to movies at a loud volume. We escorted my DD out of the Finding Nemo show because it was loud when she was a baby. I like the ear muff suggestion!

Yes.
As I said in my earlier post, just about every attraction is quite loud.

There are some that are particularly startlingly loud (like Dinosaur) but just about every other attraction has parts (if not all) that are loud.

Even the MK's Railroad and the Riverboat (that are generally pretty tame) have screaming steam whistles and engine propulsion noise that is very loud.

The Jungle Cruise's PA system is loud, and they often fire off simulated gunfire.

About the quietest ride at WDW is MK's TTA PeopleMover, but even it takes guests inside Space Mountain were the
loud rattling of ride vehicles on the metal tracks and riders' screams can be heard.

Just be ready with easy-to-wear hearing protection and enjoy as much as possible.

I also also suggest taking ear muffs of ear plugs because the volumes on many rides/shows can be quite high.

A loud TV or Radio doesn't bother him. It's loud bursts that bother him. This is something new with him, it never bothered him before.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone! I hope he won't think he's too cool for the ear plugs! Lol

Do not even waste your money on ear plugs, get some of the ear muffs, you can go to http://www.earplugstore.com/ and get them for like $15-16. These are excellent ear muffs for the price and will last forever. The ear plugs all come out easily and it's hard to tell if their in your child's ears correctly. With the ear muffs, you know they are on. My dd is the same way with loud noises. We took her when she was 3 with ear muffs and she did great. Now, we're planning a second trip and I would not leave home without them!!! You will need them for the fireworks too as they are loud!

Big Thunder - When going up the lift hills, the click-clack sound of the lift chains are loud. I think mainly because all of the hills are indoors so it magnifies it.
