Leaving in 55 days!!! Can someone update me with latest regs on liquids on the plane?? What's allowed and what's not!!

I packed some clear ziploc sandwhich bags (did not have quart sized), so used a few sandwhich bags, and packed travel sized bottles of everthing. You can get the travel things in the right size at Wal-mart which is where I got mine. I also put my make up in there. they looked at it, and did not say a word. the only time I had probs was at MCO they deemed my porcelan (ap) cinderella suspicious, so thry ripped her box opened. I did ask the lady to please becarefull, and please don't just rip the box open. I guess cindy was looking suspicious in her box lol I dunno, also I was not aware that you couldnt bring snowglobes in carry-ons even though some say they have signs I honestly saw none, and had no idea till I got to security, and my dh had to go pay 30 dollars at the disney store to ship it home.

There have been reports of TSA people insisting on quart-size bags, even though the sandwich bags are smaller. It makes no sense, but I would recommend quart-size ZipLoc (or similar) bags.

If you're checking bags, it makes sense to me to put liquids and gels (such as shampoo and toothpaste) into your checked bags (in ZipLoc bags in case they leak). I would only carry on medicine or other other liquids that you'll need immediately when you get to your hotel, such as sunscreen.

Thanks I plan on mailing a package to Pop ahead of timewith snax liquids etc in it. But wanted to have with me for IN Case shampoo small sunscreen toothpaste. Are they allowing food on the planes now . We leave very early in a.m. and wanted a little something for on the plane.

Yes, please get quart size ziplocs, might save you some time with any overzealous TSA folks.

I have been able to pack everything in a quart ziploc for a two-night trip and get away without checking any luggage. I save the little containers from hotels and refill them, and get mini toothpaste tubes. I hate checking luggage.

They'll allow food to be carried through security as long as it is solid. No liquids, creams or gels. You could bring through a hamburger with ketchup on it, but not a ketchup packet, unless you put the packet into a quart ziploc bag. At any rate, you can bring any food or beverages on the plane if you purchase them in the airport after you pass security.

Please remember that snowglobes contain liquid!

Wow I did not have ANY probs when leaving from our home airport over the sandwhich bags, in fact they were making jokes about it. I had like 2 in each carry on full of shampoo, toothpaste, make-up, things of that nature, and never had a problem. Now when we left for home MCO were a bit more rude, they deemed my glass cinderella as suspicious and I had to ask them please don't just rip the box open. I just did not have the other size, and never really use them, so I figured it would be ok as long as it was the correct size of fluids, ziploc, and see thru. PS. I did not bring ziplocs back on carry on for the flight home, just my gifts I bought from wdw, so can't say how MCO would be with the ziploc size, but home was fine with it.

I thought when ban originally came out, they had a lot of food restrictions at least that was thee info being posted then!!
The only food restrictions are on foods that are liquids or gels. A gel doesn't have to be a clear gel. For example, you can't bring a bottle of mayonnaise or ready-to-eat pudding. If it can flow or ooze through your fingers, don't bring it.

That means you can bring most foods onto your aircraft, including foods you bring from home for consumption on the aircraft, to-go foods that you buy in the airport, and packaged (non-liquid/non-gel) food for your destination.

I have a couple questions.

1) What about creams? For instance I use a thick moisturizer. If you tipped the container upside down it would probably take hours and hours for it to spill out. I wouldn't call it a liquid, but it's not exactly solid.

2) They say the don't allow for instance, rolled up larger toothpaste tubes. Every container must be a 3oz. container or smaller. Ounces is a measure of weight not size. 3 ounces of mercury would be very small. 3 ounces of cotton candy would be huge. Do the really mean the are looking for a certain size of container that would hold 3 ounces of water?

Thanks!!

The rules are:
  • 3 ounces per bottle or less;
  • 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag;
  • 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin.

If you had "2 in each carry-on," and they weren't quart-sized, there was a distinct risk that you could have been asked to dispose of some or all of those bags.

If everyone follows the rules (regardless of what we think of those rules), the security screening process will go faster.

For TSA purposes, creams are liquids/gels. You can bring containers that are 3 fluid ounces or less and fit into the 1-quart bag that you put into the screening bin. Larger containers would have to go into your checked bags.

Liquids and gels are usually labeled in fluid ounces. Nobody buys two pound of milk; they buy a quart of milk.

Are those restrictions for carry on or for checked or both? I wasn't planning on getting travel size anything but was checking all our luggage.

If you have chapstick are they going to give you problems. I am going to clean out my purse before I leave and was wondering if I can leave it in there.

www.tsa.gov, as another poster already posted for you

it specifically addresses creams and lotions
