Hi My sister in law is getting married and I'm in the wedding. I would like to wear something on my lips for the pictures but I don't know what. My lips always feel dry and they have cracks/wrinkles. Every lipstick I have tried goes right in the cracks and also makes above my lips read and just looks terrible. Is there a good lip balm out there that would allow me to wear a lipstick? or a good lipgloss, that's not too glossy and sticky?

I feel like I have tried every balm but I keep trying new ones to see if any are better.

If I wear anything with color in it I wear Mac lipglass (I think that is what its called) but it doesn't last long

Thanks!

You should try Burts Beer Lip Shimmer. They have great colors and feel great on.

I don't know how long you have but when my DD was in the hospital my lips got really dry from the air and the only thing I could find was plain old Vasoline petroleum jelly, not a balm... just the ointment. Well my lips were perfect in a couple of days.

Now if the lines are age or smoking related I seem to remember a product out there that could be found in the lipstick area which was made just for this purpose. I don't know how well it works bu I remember seeing it... it had before and after pictures on the package.

If you can't find it or it doesn't work I would go with carefully applied and allowed to dry lip stain followed by a nice clear gloss. You'll get the color without the bleed and even if the clear gloss does bleed no-one will ever see it. Maybe use a blow dryer to set the color one light layer at a time. Don't put the color too close to your lips edges, maybe it will help it not bleed.

Korres lip butter...oh my gosh, it is WONDERFUL. You can get it at Ulta or Sephora. It's around $9.00 but oh wow, it's worth it.

Otherwise, Burt's Bees really is good stuff too.

I was told by a dermatologist that Vaseline can become addictive to your lips?:confused3 That the petroleum somehow blocks natural moisture from coming onto your lips after prolonged use...not sure if that is true or not, just what one derm.

Personally I never leave the house without chapstick but I've never tried to put lipstick on top of it, but I also get the Clinique Super Balm. It's really great on dry lips and not quite as sticky as lip gloss.

I have another friend who swears by the vasoline lip treatment. It comes in a tube with a round top (like carmex).

A gentle exfoliator....sugar even works..will help. Gets the dead cells off. Then follow with a good moisturizor. I'm not sure if they still make it but Clinique All About Lips used to be my favorite but it's a bit pricey and I haven't gotten any in awhile. Mary Kay also has a lip mask and lip balm that I like.

The Nivea ones are really nice, and cheap. As a PP suggested - the exfoliation is a great way to prime them - you can even use your toothbrush to scrub them smooth.

A wonderful, wonderful thing to use, is LipFusion. I know it's a plumper - but it pulls moisture to your lips (causing plumpness) but also avoiding chapped lips. I haven't had an ounce of dry lips this winter, and usually I do. I really love this stuff. Comes in clear, or their colors are very sheer.

That being said - it's $38. BUT if you get it from Sephora, you can return it (after you've used it) if you don't like it.

use vaseline under your lipstick.
also, if you can find it, lucas pawpaw ointment is great for lips. and pretty much everything else.

I use generic Neosporin. Just the same stuff that I already have on hand for cuts, etc. It works beautifully!

First, drink more water. Having cracked lips means you are dehydrated. Second, you need to fix your lips and lipstick won't do that. Plain vasoline is the way to go there. Put it on liberally before bed and you will notice a HUGE difference in the morning. Also, if you lick your lips, stop, that is making it worse.

For the wedding, once your lips are fixed, you will be able to wear whatever you like.

I only use Burt's Bees Lipbalms and my lips are always really smooth...
but I second other posters' suggestions at drinking more water because if your lips are already that dry then you are dehydrated...use petroleum jelly to get your lips softer and then I really suggest Burt's Bees products...they are amazing!

Second the suggestion of a dry lip stain followed by a sheer gloss. I believe Cover Girl Outlast lip stain is the one I've tried in the past...it's basically like a non-toxic permanent marker for your lips. It will stain whatever it gets on (like fingers), and a little goes a long way, but it will last for hours. I used it at a concert last fall and it stayed on through 3+ hours of dancing and drinking and still looked good at the end of the night. Just be careful when applying it!

Someone mentioned it previously, but KORRES LIP BUTTER, $10 at Sephora. There are several different colors and clear. LOVE IT.

I suffer from dry, cracked lips too. What works for me is applying a clear lip balm at night, and a lip balm/lipstick with sunscreen during the day.
