Linda's goal = Lose wt + 1/2 marathon 09(encouragement welcome)

Hi Scott,
Thanks! My longest run is 20 miles x2,the week of xmas and the week after.

JOY TO THE WORLD! Perfect timing.I am really starting to doubt my choice here.

Linda

Hmmm...one of the 20 milers is on Jan 3-4? or Dec 27-28?

Not to be all "Joe coach wanna be", but I'd advise against doing a run like that so close to the full. I've understood that you need at least a two week taper to prepare your body for the marathon. Can you move them up any?

(leave it to me...disappear and then show up trying to mess you all up LOL)

And remember, go slow on those runs...the key is to NOT get injured. Anytime you boost the miles up like that, your body is more open to injuries so please listen to those bones and muscles and make sure you're at that starting line :)

Scott

Hi Scott,
I love to hear your opinion and advice! No the 2- 20 milers are on 12/21 and 12/28.That's better right? Should that be OK?Then I start to taper.

I am getting all caught up in how am I going to carry like 5 gels, probably Gatorade etc... A fanny pack makes me cringe and the fuel belts I don't think I could stand hitting me in the butt for 26 miles.

Getting really nervous here.

Thanks for your input,

Linda

6 miles in 62:54,a 10:29 pace.It was a struggle.Feeling lousy-diet in the toilet and had no energy.

60 and cloudy

Linda

Shrug off that run Linda :) Those things happen (you're sure to have more "bad" runs during training)...just let it go and know that you got the miles in.

As far as packs...Amy has a great one that she frankensteined, it's a Fuel Belt Race belt (that holds like 8 gels), with some amphipod (i think) water bottles attached.

I have an Ultimate Direction Solitare

http://www.ultimatedirection.com/product.php?id=19&page=waistpacks

Although it doesn't move at all on my butt (surprising) it tends to have a little more than I need....but might come in handy if you wanted to pack some extra stuff (camera, tissues, etc).

I've ditched the thought of carrying water during races, but I know that a lot of people will not do that (in case they need some right away or want the gatorade instead of powerade).

I'd suggest getting one now though so you can run with it once or twice and see if it's gonna work for you. You don't want to go into the race with something new strapped to ya.

Hang in there!

Scott

XT today.Did the elliptical x 30 mins on intervals.Never did that before. It kicked my butt-it was awesome!

2.22 miles and 306 cals.,levels 4 and 8.

Linda

Hi Linda! Looks like your training is going well! You are going to do great in Jan.!

Last year was my first full at WDW and I was nervous about the same things as you are.....I ended up wearing a fanny pack that fit some gels, my ipod (just in case), a camera, and a few dollars just in case I needed it. I honestly never even felt like it was there. It fit tightly against my body and didn't bounce up and down. As for carrying water, there is so much on the course that I didn't need it. Gatorade is fine for me, so I just took one cup of water and one of gatorade at each station and I felt like I stayed hydrated throughout the whole race. I didn't want to carry anything extra with me on the course that I didn't have to so I ditched the idea of wearing my fuel belt. I did test out my fanny pack once or twice before the marathon on my training runs.

As for the 2 20 milers, what plan are you using that calls for 2-20 milers in back to back weeks, seems like a lot to me so close to the race. I think one 20 miler will be plenty and as Scott mentioned be sure to get in a good two week taper before the marathon.

You are doing great...keep up the great work!!

Thanks Laurie!

6 miles today in 62:20,a 10:23 pace.A very comfortable pace for me.

RUN....RELAX....GLIDE my new mantra from Jeff Galloway and it works!

Linda

Hey Linda. Just popping in to see how you are doing.

I know that some folks really like the SPIBelt. It doesn have anything for hydration, but it expands and can hold quite a bit. We are supposed to get a WISH discount on it. I'm trying to find out now if that still works. It seems a little sleeker than a fanny pack. Apparently you can add hooks to it to attach your race number...

Keep it up! You're doing great!

6 miles in 64:54,a 10:49 pace.TOM is killing me.Felt like I was pulling a load of bricks with me.Not out of breath but just no energy!

Cloudy,misting and 40s

Linda

Linda, you are doing great despite all odds!!

I have a virus that is zapping me right now. I would gladly trade TOM for my fever and headache, sore throat, et al....

Keep up the great work and I will see you in January....maybe....:goodvibes

12 miles in 2:11:18.Very disappointed and annoyed. No lie 25 mph winds made it almost impossible to go forward most of the time.I hope this is not the winter I have to look forward to.I would much rather have snow and no wind.

That was a 10:56 pace.

Linda

6 miles in 60:50,a 10:08 pace.I can't take this wind too much more.It is so frustrating to be running against the wind every time.

28,sunny and high winds!!!!!!!! Hate this!Almost turned around and came home.

Linda

Hey, Linda! Popping in to say hi and catch up on what's going on with your training.

I can "hear" the frustration in your posts about running against the wind (isn't that a Bob Seger song??) - I am no runner, but let me interject a thought here.

It would seem to me that if you are running into the wind much of the time when you are training, it would make you faster when you get to the WDW run. After all, they don't usually have much wind there in January, right? So even though you hate it and it is discouraging you because it seems to be slowing you down, it might actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise and make you much faster when it really counts!

Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about - it wouldn't be the first time!!:lmao: Anyway, please don't give up now - you're so close to your goal! You will do awesome and all the nerves and the trials leading up to the race will be so worth it. Keep going - you're doing great!!

Susan

Hey Linda!!

I wanted to drop in and see how your training is going...and it looks like things are going great!! you are going to do great in January!!!!! You will definitely leave me in the dust with my slow 12 mpm pace! Keep up the good work, don't worry about those winds, as Susan said, it will feel great the next time you run and there is no wind...it will seem so easy.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks Laurie I will be checking in with you with more questions I am sure!

Today 6 miles in 59:56, a 9:59 pace.

Sunny, no wind,really nice!

Linda
