Linda's goal = Lose wt + 1/2 marathon 09(encouragement welcome)

Today did 6 miles in 67:18,a 11:13 pace. I looked back at my journals and this was about where I was the first time I ran 6.That stinks!

After the run I rode my bike on the same 6 mile loop.It is beautiful out there.

6 more days of school. They added a day because school was closed yesterday because of storm damage- alot of trees down and streets closed.

How is everyone else doing out there?

Keep journaling it keeps me inspired.

I am looking for the Pilates for Dummies DVD but can't find it.Did anyone find one that was looking for one?

Linda

6 miles again today. Ran it in 64:07, a 10:41 pace better but Ughh! After that I rode my bike again the same loop as running. Then I went in the pool- the water is in the 80's- gotta love that!

Linda

Yesterday I did nothing because it felt like my legs needed a rest. My DD had the semi finals of the state cup in soccer and they won so off to the finals today.

I got my run in early,3.1 miles in 30:56, a 9:58 pace.I am happy with that right now.It feels great to being moving again.

Oh the humidity is back!

Hope everyone is doing well,
Linda

Hi, Linda. The heat and humidity are difficult to deal with, even for us southerners! I think you are doing SUPER for continuing to get out there, even when it is difficult, and put in the time and the miles. You are inspiring me, girl - keep going!

Hope you have a great day!

Susan

I am looking at my number of posts for June and they are stuck at 908.Why does it not change with every post anyone know?
Linda

OK just figured it out!!!!!!!! ;)

Ran 2.5 miles in 25:45,a 10:18 pace.I really need to keep this up to get back to where I was.I have gone so backwards,I have gained back 7 lbs and probably lost the muscle I gained.

Hope everyone who reads this has a great day.Not feeling the love or inspiration these days from WISH :(

Linda

Hi, Linda! The boards are a little dead lately, aren't they? I think everyone is out and about over the summer, going on vacation and spending extra time with the kids while they're out of school, and they have less time to journal. But don't worry, everyone will be back once school starts again!

Don't worry, you'll get back to where you were in no time. I have no doubt you'll continue to progress well in your training - you have so much drive and determination. You never give up, no matter what obstacles you face, and that's why I find your posts so inspiring! Keep going, girl, you're doing a GREAT job!

Hope you have a good holiday weekend. I'll check in again next week!

Susan

A BIG THANKS SUSAN!!!!!!!!

This am I walked about 2 miles with my Mom then did 3.1 in 32:18,a 10:25 pace.I guess I have to resign myself to the fact that I am starting over and I will be slow.

Today's weight is 164lbs. Ugh! And boy do I feel that 7 lbs. That could be why I am slower too.

Have a great day everyone,
Linda

Hi Linda-Just wanted to stop by and say hi. I think its better to start slow than to hurt yourself trying to push yourself too much--you can do it!

Coming back is hard. I have done it a few times the last few years. Just don't push the pace in your every day runs and you will be fine.

Hey Linda, I was just reading through your journal and I am amazed at your ability to keep pushing yourself. We all fall off the wagon every once in a while....looks like both of us are starting over again.

Good luck and I look forward to continue reading up on your progress!

Amanda

Hi Linda

I know I haven't been here...between work and kids and training i haven't had a lot of time to check in on you guys. Just know I do think about you and hope you're doing well!!!

As for the pace...don't sweat it at all. I've really given up on worrying about my time...it takes too much energy and diverts my attention from the REAL success....which is simply finishing the distance. Seriously...no matter how fast you run you are still covering the distance. And lets face it...running at disney is not about pace...it's about the experience. Enjoy yourself during training and don't worry about some perfect "pace"....trust me on this. You'll do great at disney and will have a blast competing in a race of this magnitude. Also remember that whether you are running an 8 mpm or an 11 mpm...you are STILL getting the same benefits of the run...calorie burn and endurance. So try not to worry. Besides...training runs should always be around 60-90 seconds SLOWER than race pace with the exception of one shorter run per week that focuses on tempo pace which is STILL slower than race pace. So maybe only look to run a bit faster once per week...the rest of the time should be around 10 to 11 mpm.

Take care...and hang in there...I'll try to visit your journal more frequently.

Thanks Amy,Amanda and Jen!!!!!!

Today I did a 5 mile walk.Looking back on my journal I did not run in the beginning everyday so I am going back to that.

Today's weight 162.

Fireworks cancelled another Tstorm on the horizen.

Have a great one all,
Linda

Hi Linda,

I have been skimming your Journal and I am very impressed with your commitment and progress.

It seems that you might be pushing your daily runs. Like others have pointed out you really shouldn't be worried about your pace.

You should try to slow down and run EASY. Some days your EASY pace will be faster then others.

I know this might sound crazy but running faster doesn't make you faster. I used push the pace all the time. All I did was wear myself out. When I slowed down I enjoyed running more, was able to recover and run more miles, and my race times got a lot faster.

Have you recently Raced a 5K? What was your time? How many miles a week are you currently running?

I hope you don't think I am being noisy, I have been running a long time and I have made about every mistake there is to make.

Take care,

David

I am very competitive with myself so the slow pace was killing me.I do realize I should be focused on distance but I will change it up once I have this pace down.

That said this am I walked about 3 miles with a friend then went out for my 3.1 mile loop.I ran it in 30:27, a 9:49 pace. I was very comfortable too so it must be coming back to me slowly but surely.

Thanks to everyone who continues to post, you all help to motivate me!

Have a great one,
Linda

Linda...ITA with David. Why not find a local 5K and do your best....once you have this time you can base your training pace off that number. Most runs should be done in the fat burn zone....at about 70% of HR max...and will probably wind up being around 60 seconds slower than race pace. THIS is how you not only build your endurance BUT save your legs and also burn fat. Pick one run a week to push the pace a bit so you don't feel like you're getting slow and you can work on tempo pace and lactic acid threshold yada yada. Also work on building your core as that will help immensely with success in running over the term of your training.

Look...I can run a lot faster than I do but I end up feeling miserable if I do that each time out. I can run an 8 mpm 5K but I have been hitting all my long runs between 9:45 and 10 mpm. Even my shorter runs lately are back at that pace. yet...I know if I went out to run a 5K tomorrow I'd run pretty fast *FOR ME*. That's the bottom line...we have to find our own happy pace and work against that. I'm not trying to preach but I'd hate to see you make the same mistakes I did in training which led to a slew of injuries during my first marathon training.

Good luck and keep journaling.

THANKS AMY your advice is always welcome and never preachy.Unfortunately I live in a pretty lame area and there are few if any races. There was the 1/2 I did in April here and that was it,not even in the closest big city.Hartford,CT is probably the closest at 45 mins away and a dangerous area. There is a 1/2 there in Oct. that's it.

Linda

Absolutely pouring out this am so I did the elliptical x 30 mins. 282 cals and 2.06 miles.A pace of 3.8-5.3 I was moving pretty good.

After a shower I took a 2.5 mile walk between the raindrops .Boy it is humid out there.

Linda

Yesterday I ran my 3.1 mile loop in 30:56 a 9:58 pace. Not as good as the other day but I'll take it.

Off to work now where I'll will probably beat that pace!

Linda

Hi, Linda. You are doing SO WELL - please don't be discouraged when your times aren't what you want them to be. I think sometimes we are our own worst enemies, you know? Remember, you are only finished if you quit - and you aren't a quitter, so take pride in your accomplishments, girl. You're out there GETTING IT DONE when it would be so easy to sit back and take it easy. YOU ROCK!!

Hope you have a great day!

Susan
