Hi Mom, This is a good report. Everybody is probably wondering. I am one of All7OfUs's 7. I am DD16, princess: I am a disney lover, but not as much as my mom. She has thoroughly and successfully hijacked me to the Dark Side of the boards. But don't let all of her eloquence on the boards fool you, she is really just a pirate. MK for now stands just for Magic Kingdom...in two or three years I can tell you more. That is my favorite park.

I wish I could go on Mom's Trip of Liberation. But she only has enough power to liberate her lime green Mickey heads, and her two friends from the cluches of my father and her other sworn enemies.

Wow! What a great day. and you aren't even finished yet. Lynn was so sweet to do all of that for Lauren. And that looks like a great Disney store, it looks really big.

Ooops! This one slipped by me! Yep, we did have a great day. We are so much alike in our touring plans/styles, our desires for this trip, tastes in dining, and all that other good stuff. We really cemented our friendship, I think, and I'm just all the more excited to take this trip!

I wish I could go on Mom's Trip of Liberation. But she only has enough power to liberate her lime green Mickey heads, and her two friends from the cluches of my father and her other sworn enemies.

Hi Bek! Welcome!!! :cheer2::welcome::cheer2:

You know my enemies probably better than anyone, since you are the target of the homeschooling "torture". HA! Thankfully, you are super-de-duperdy daughter and alleviate some of my daily drudgery of dishes and laundry. :woohoo:

Don't worry. Once you have a real job and we live closer to WDW, you too can become as obsessed as your DM! Ha!

Uh-Oh... more Bag Drama!!

RE: Crocs... are yours the Beach or the Cayman style??

The Beach tend to be a bit roomier, but only come in limited sizes... the Caymans are more streamlined and good for in-between sizes. The Crocs website says that if your toes are touching the inner edge of the shoe, then they are too small and you need the next size up. :thumbsup2

I originally got my Caymans in my usual size, but my middle toes were touching the front of the shoe, so I exchanged for the next size up and they are so comfy!!!

Kathy

I don't know what kind they are. I think they are the original, most basic kind. Bummer! I guess I wasted $24.99 on a pair that's too small! Ah well, I left a bag of "trip stuff" behind at Mom and Dads to pick up next year. My Crocs are in there with a pair of good old fashioned New Balance tennies which I'll probably end up wearing more of anyway.

Maybe I should have added "New Crocs" to the poll list for the extra spending money! :lmao:

Yes, more bag drama! Gramma had a nice over the shoulder type bad, but it is black leather. NOT so very attractive, but usable, and free.

As most of you know, Soldier #1 lost her dear Grandmother 3 weeks ago, necessitating an unexpected trip back to the US to be with family. Amidst the very real "ick" of losing a loved one, and dealing with all the family issues that arise out of circumstances like that, one very, very exciting result of that trip ensued. I was able to meet maroo! As we've said many times, that was more than wonderful!

During my stay in the States, many afternoons were spent going through some of Grandma's things. Both she and Grampa were packrats, and rarely threw anything away. She had trunks that were brought over from France by her parents when they immigrtated, handmade lace items for the next generation to treasure, and uncountable trinkets from every stage of her life.

On a stormy afternoon, sitting on an attic floor with my mom and aunt, we opened one of the oldest looking trunks. We couldn't believe the priceless hoard of goodies we found including teeth that they had lost as children, crafts they had made as gradeshchoolers, and believe it or not, EVERY loveletter that Granmpa had written her while he was on a gun boat in the South Pacific during the War!!!!!! And before you ask, NO! we did not read them, for he is still with us!

On top of those letters however, was one that immediately caught my eye! It was an envelope that had, of all things, Disney letterhead! What??! What could possibly be inside a yellowing, Disney envelope with a Burbank postmark? As to the historical significance and importance, the dates speak for themselves.

Here is the envelope- untouched for perhaps 50 years!

And a close up of the stamp:

I carefully opened the envelope, fairly trembling at what might be inside. Here is what I found:

Here's a closer shot of the first of the two letters addressed to her.

Apparently, she was being recruited to work at the Studios in wartime productions! We know that before she was married, and for a few years after, Gramma worked at as a hospital administrator, and was very good at what she did. We always teased her for knowing AND REMEMBERING her shorthand!

The second letter surprised us even more!

And a closeup:

As a bonus, here's a shot of the envelope letterhead:

It is certain, that she never took this job, at least not to any of our knowledge. She met and married Grampa only 6 months later. So Disney missed out on a lovely lady whom we will always cherish!

Now, in case you thought I was done sharing Disney treasures with you, we found in the same trunk one more Disney antique I wanted to let you see (soon). Tucked away into the corner of the aging brown, leather trunk was a little brass figurine of a donkey with a pack on. On the front it says "Frontierland"! My aunt picked it up, and with certainty says (with a little tear in her eye), "I remember buying that in 1957 or 1958. You can have it." :worship::worship::worship: I haven't uploaded this one to photobucket yet, but will do so in the next couple of days. It is a real treasure for sure!

You see, my mother's family lived in La Crescenta for over 60 years before moving to the Kentucky area. In fact, they knew many of the Disney animators personally, and my uncle by marriage was an animator who worked on Bambi, I think. However, I need to verify which movie it was. I do know his personal specialty was owls of all things.

So, there you have it. Disney runs deep and thick in my veins! There is no possible way for me to have escaped this passion of mine!

Enjoy!!!

Liesa

Wow, Liesa, those attic finds are amazing!

Your Grandmother was a beautiful woman... I know she will be missed.

Aren't they?! I thought it was absolutely incredible that she would have saved them, and that I would have been lucky enough to have found them!

She really was! Inside and Out! I always thought she could have been a movie star :bride:

Those finds are just amazing. Disney really is in your genes!

I grew up only about 50 miles from DLand, and went there several times a year growing up. Being a CM there was sure fun!

BEKKA!!!!!!

How are you! I am so glad you have joined us on this pre-trippie!

Now... Liesa....

You told me about these things over the phone...but seeing them... WOWO!

How incredibly awesome!!!!!

Wow! Disney is in your blood. What a neat find! I would love to know if she actually went to the interview. I am definitely the only Disney nut in my family though I am trying like crazy to insure that DD carries it on. I think I have her sufficiently brainwashed at this point - she sees hidden mickeys everywhere! Can't wait to see the photo of the figurine!

Liesa...

I hope you post this on some other boards on the DIS. Maybe Theme Parks? I hope that lots of people are able to see this very cool find and I am just not sure our humble pre-trippie has the readership of the Theme Parks board. Ya know what I mean? :)

I hope lots of people get to see this awesome find. :thumbsup2

Wow, what an awesome thing to find. I cannot believe she had kept that all these years. Did your Grampa know anything about it?

Cant weight to see the donkey. :rotfl:

Here is that sweet little donkey that you've been waiting for. Isn't he cute??? And over 50 years old!!!

It looks like you guys had a great time!!!!!!!! I think I saw a picture of you guys on someone else's TR.... I think it was tinkgurl's or someone that was writing on her TR??? I don't know... I think i'm losing it. LOLOL

Now, everyone knows ALL good DIS-ers take a mandatory photo of their tired dogs on the TTA, but who says they have to be tired LOOKING? We ran into this little kiosk, and Lauren gave it a try. I'm thinking that I'm definitely going to have to find that online and get some for our TTA footsie photo! Whatcha think?? And hey, ThatsNice- you can reserve your comments! HA! :rotfl2:

What the heck do I know about nail polish and press on nails?:confused3:confused3 (is that what you are talking about?) LOLOL

:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I don't like cucumbers. :snooty:

Nice try. Those weren't cucumbers... those were zucchini slices!!!! :sad2: LOLOL So what's your excuse now??:confused3

Yeah, I didn't think you would know anything about gettin' purty, but I thought you might enjoy teasing us a bit more than you did! :lmao:

Ahh, astute observing, my friend! They indeed were NOT cucumbers, but like you say, zucchini, peppers, onions and the sort. Sorry, maroo, but I won't be eating your veggies for you at The______________ when we take our trip. But I will hit the hot tub with ya, and ride RnRC.

I would too. I could ask my grandpa, but I doubt he'd know.

Ask, and you shall receive... :goodvibes

I did! Here's the link for you to see. Someone actually has done some amazing research on this, and you can learn a LOT more here:

The Incredible Disney Historical Find!

How awesome! Those are truly some incredible treasures you found!

I liked them too!

No, I don't think so, but I'm going to ask my mom to ask him some questions. Like which animator they knew, what Grandpa did at Lockheed (see link to other thread), whether he knows if she actually went to the interview, and stuff like that.

Well you are right about me knowing anything about it.... but with a three year old girl getting older, I'm sure I'm gonna learn quick!!! LOLOL:rotfl:

I actually like those pictures of people's feet on the TTA. I am gonna take a pic of ours on there in October (if I can remember!)(I will keep my shoes on... don't worry!!!!:lmao:)

The_____________??????????????? Does everything have to be a secret?

Love the little donkey! At what cool bits of info everyone over at Theme Parks had to add. Good idea Mary!

The_____________??????????????? Does everything have to be a secret?

I dare you- double dare you- to paint them up and post it!!!! :lmao::rotfl2:

As for secrets.... no, not much longer, Mate! Honestly, we are kinda waiting for Mary to take that Sept. trip of hers for the first major announcement (can I jsut say that we are hoping there may a bounceback in our future?). Meanwhile, if you say please, maybe we can loosen up our security clearances and let you know one or two of our ideas. Maybe.

Another major observation I just made....

Look back at the poll.... Do you see how upgrading and getting PH's and 1 dinner just evened up??? Hmmm... now that's interestin' ain't it?

By the way, does anyone know if there is a way to get a poll off or better yet change it?? I asked the mods., but they told me to go ask the tech board. I've never had good luck with getting responses from them, so I thought I'd try here first.

Also, can someone tutor me through multi-quoting? I've tried highlight ONLY what I want to quote, pushing the multi button, then doing the same for the next poster, but everytime they pop up in the reply window, ALL of what they wrote gets quoted, and I have to get rid of everything I don't want quoted. There has to be a better way. What am I doing wrong??

Hello fellow soldier!

Now, now...you must get permission from the Commander in Chief to be releasing sealed documents! :rotfl: You might cause a war or something. :rotfl2:

Multiquoting...

You click on the little " at the bottom of each post that you want to quote. So if you want to quote three, then instead of pressing the quote button, you press the " button for all three and then hit "reply." Try that.

As for removing a poll...I have no idea! I can't even add one! :confused3

So...ya think we should release any secret info.

Darn. I am going to have to bribe some more people to vote for what I want! Wait...I can't bribe people. This is war, not politics! :lmao: I am going to get kicked off the DISboards for talking politics! :scared1:
