It was great meeting you guys, and we'll definitely do it again sometime.

Oh my goodness, I'm so excited for both of you! What a wonderful place the DIS is, huh? To bring people together, it truly warms my heart. I've found some great friends on here, and it looks like you have too! :goodvibes

We really have! Lisa (Lauren's Mom...we have a lot of "Lisa's") was a little apprehensive about letting Lauren go with me to meet a "stranger" but I kept telling them she was not a stranger! I know her!

Liesa called last night to talk to all of us (Lauren, Lisa, and me) and Lisa really enjoyed talking to Liesa and understands now why we had so much fun and like her so much! I could see Lisa and Liesa being friends, too!

I agree with this! I also need her to come back to the store and finish folding tshirts!!!:rotfl: (While you all were checking out, she was folding our shirts...I told her she was hired!)

It was really nice meeting you three!

Lynn

You are an angel...and I can't wait to share that with the DIS on this thread! :goodvibes But for now...we will keep you a secret! :ssst:

And the rest of you guys will just have to wait to meet Lynn!! And know what cool thing she did for us!

Ah...

This was so much fun and a great picture!! :thumbsup2

I got my pictures loaded from our Nashville Planning and DISmeet trip!!

So it is time for the report!!!! Maroo style... (Liesa will have to pipe in here soon - I think she has only been home a couple of days and it took 3 days to get there - so we will give her a little while to get over the jet lag!)

Friday:

Lauren and I headed out from her house prepared for our 6-7 hour journey to Nashville. Lauren was excited, but also quite laid back. Whenever I would ask for her opinion about where we should eat or whether we should do A or B...she would say, "I am just along for the ride!" :cool2: I think she was just glad to be going on a road trip!

Our trip down was uneventful. One stop for gas, restroom break and dinner (all at once - that is the way to do it, people!) and then Nashville! We arrived at a perfect time, just as the sun was setting over the city. I wish I had a free hand to take a picture, but it was all I could do to navigate the interstates. ;) It was beautiful.

We checked in at the Marriott. I called about 20 hotels to find one that had a roll in shower AND two double beds (these rooms are rare) and was able to reserve one at the Marriott, so the cost of the hotel did not bother me as much. But when we got there, they did not have such a room. :confused3 Instead they gave us a room with a roll in shower and one double bed. But the front desk made it right and gave us a second room to sleep in...so one to take a shower and one to sleep in. Which was AWESOME on their part. :thumbsup2 Unfortunately they were quite far apart, so it involved moving all of our stuff twice. :upsidedow

It was late by the time I got her out of her chair and ready for bed. At this point, I was honestly wondering if I was totally crazy to be embarking on this journey with Lauren alone. I am used to having two adults whenever we travel (sometimes three) and I realized fairly quickly that it is hard to be two places at once. I needed to finish unloading the van, but I could not just leave Lauren in the room (she can't even answer a phone if it rings) and could not get help if she needed it for some reason.

But I did leave her in the room - for just a few minutes - and ran to get the rest of our stuff. I was so stressed because it took me forever to get it all situated to bring in one trip and I figured she would be totally freaked out by the time I got back to the room.

I forgot about the "silver bullet"...cable TV. They live in an area where you can't get cable, so they only have regular boring TV, so Lauren loves watching "real" TV when she can. She was enthralled in the Disney Channel (that's my girl!) and had not even noticed I was gone. :rotfl2:

nashville1044-1.jpg

Notice in this picture that Lauren is smiling...but not looking at the camera...she is looking at the TV. She won't even look away from the TV to take a picture! :happytv: :rotfl:

On my way back to the room, I spotted THIS...

nashville1039.jpg

And decided this was going to be a GREAT trip!

Once I unloaded all of our stuff, got Lauren's stuff laid out in room #2 to help us go faster in the morning, and got myself ready for bed...I crashed. :cloud9:

Saturday:

The plan was to meet Liesa and her parents for an early lunch. I had calculated the time it would take us to get ready...and have promised Lauren I won't post that...but I will tell you that I miscalculated. I don't know what I left out - but by the time I packed our stuff from the first room and got us moved to the second room, showered, dressed, hair, makeup, etc...I was WAY behind my schedule. And I had not gotten myself ready yet. So, we cut some corners and I got ready quickly! I had planned on wearing jeans and a nice shirt...but did I mention it was HOT in Nashville? Somehow I thought it would be a little cooler, since we were going North...but it was hot.

So I punted the jeans idea and put on the only shorts I brought. Blah. Great...meeting new people in shorts and a T-shirt.

Packed the van, checked out of the hotel, programmed the address in my GPS and hit the road. We almost made it on time. And Liesa called to let me know they were running a couple of minutes late as well (construction traffic). That gave us a few minutes to find a parking spot, unload Lauren and put our name on the list at The Cheesecake Factory! :woohoo:

I knew what Liesa looked like. We have talked on Skype (with a video connection) a few times, but I had no idea what her parents looked like. And I was a little nervous. Will I recognize her when she comes in? Will we have a good time? Will Lauren have a good time? All 3 of my previous DIS meets have been fantastic, so I don't know why I was so nervous. But I was.

Liesa and her parents came walking in. Of course, I recognized her immediately and did not hesitate to give her a hug once I saw her. But my nerves got the best of me when I said out loud what was in my head, "You are shorter than I thought you would be."

Her parents were so friendly. They all were introduced to Lauren and we were seated almost immediately.

I can not fully explain this and don't really expect everyone reading this to even understand it. But it was like eating with old friends. Even her parents, who I have never met and never talked to...even with Lauren added to the mix...I just felt like I knew everyone forever. We were never at a loss for words (imagine that). We talked about our families, our churches, what it is like living overseas, what type of work Liesa and her family do...It was a great meal filled with lots of great conversation.

One of my favorite parts of the conversation at the meal was when Liesa's Dad pulled out his iPhone to check the internet to verify a fact in the discussion we were having! I am sorry...I don't know how old Liesa's father is...but it SO cool to have someone in a...uh, er....wiser generation than I...to even have an iPhone. :thumbsup2 But when he pulled it out and jumped on Google...:worship: Rock on! That was so awesome.

So...food. I know you guys want to know about some food!

Lauren and I ate a four cheese pasta with chicken. We split it, because we decided before we ate that we definitely wanted some cheesecake!

I will let Liesa tell you guys all about what she ate (and didn't eat! :scared1:)

But Lauren enjoyed THIS for dessert. Good choice, Lauren!

DSCN3167.jpg

And I enjoyed this... yum! (Peanut butter, chocolate, Reese's, Butterfinger....) :cloud9:

DSCN3172-1.jpg

And we were DONE. Stick a fork in me. I can't eat any more!

After lunch Liesa, Lauren and I ventured off for the rest of the afternoon on our own. Liesa's parents are not Disney fans. (I know , right!)

Our first priority for this trip was to get a little Disney planning in. This was the first and probably only time we would be able to meet in person to discuss our trip. So we stopped at Panera Bread and found this perfect little nook....

DSCN3182-1.jpg

Liesa brought us both gifts of chocolate and pirate stickers! Because this was a pirate sort of trip! pirate:

DSCN3178-1.jpg

DSCN3176-1.jpg

This was so SWEET and sweet of you, Liesa!! Thank you so much!

And that, my friends...is all that you are going to hear about our pirate Disney discussion! :ssst: The rest is being saved for later...:rolleyes1 But we talked about a LOT of stuff.

I thought Lauren was keeping up fairly well in the conversation...She HAS been to Disney before. And hears me talk about it all the time. But she told me later that she only understood half of what we were talking about. Evidently there is a DIS language and Lauren does not speak it. :rotfl: :lmao:

I think it goes something like this...

"Well, we will have to remember to make our ADR for XYZ in time to ride TOT and RnR before we hop over to MK to catch Spectro and ride Buzz and the TTA. And I really love EE, so we will have to make sure make it to rope drop..." and on and on and on. You understood that, right? :confused3 But Lauren - not so much.

**Fast forward to Sunday night: I just have to tell you this, because it cracks me up. I got Lauren a little excited about going back to Disney and we had several discussions about their family going back and doing Disney "commando" - i.e. no long makeup sessions before we leave the resort and actually get to the park for "rope drop." Lauren is actually in favor of this idea after hanging out with Liesa and I for the day. Go figure. Lauren without makeup? :confused3

We were explaining this concept to her Mom and Dad at supper on Sunday night and used the word "rope drop" several times before realizing that they had no idea what that meant.

When Lauren did all of the explaining, her Dad looked up from his dinner and said, "Uh oh, she has been converted! She has moved over to the DARK SIDE." :darth: :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Cracked me up! *** Rewind to Saturday afternoon!

Anyway...following our TOP SECRET meeting of the generals (we have promoted ourselves...we are no longer soldiers...we are generals. We move up the ranks VERY fast!) :rotfl: we headed to the mall...

The Opry Mills mall, to be exact!

We parked right outside the Rainforest Cafe, since we would be eating supper there at the end of our day.

And we had a pirate moment...

DSCN3184.jpg

DSCN3186.jpg

:lmao:

We laughed later because we wondered if this vehicle (motorcycle? :confused3) belonged to a DISer!

If so, we didn't harm it! We barely even touched the handlebars. And we just couldn't resist. Pirate. pirate:

First on my agenda was to head to the Disney Store for a DIS meet.

Lauren knew nothing about THIS DIS meet. This one was planned without her knowledge. The plan was to have cajunfan (Lynn) "recognize" Lauren in the Disney Store and just come up to her and start talking to her like she was famous. :rotfl2: Lynn works at the Disney Store and was set to get off work around 3PM, so we hurried there first.

But we were running so late, that I had to tell Lauren that we needed to go to the Disney Store first because I was going to meet a friend that was getting off at 3:00...there was no other way to get her to pass all of those stores on the way to the Disney Store without stopping...without telling her I was meeting someone.

Once we got to the store, I looked around and did not see Lynn...but I also did not have a picture of her...so I was not entirely sure who I was meeting. But Lauren was shocked when she heard "Lauren!" being called across the store! It still had the same effect, because Lauren had no idea that anyone was looking for her! :scared1: "Lauren, I know you!" :rotfl: It was priceless! I wish I had a camera trained on her face... and :scared1:

And Lynn was SO sweet. She had a large bag full of goodies for Lauren!

One of the coolest things was this jacket that Lauren can wear "backwards"... Lauren can't wear most jackets the right way because of her chest strap...it is much easier to put the arms on and just wrap the jacket around her. Lynn made her this jacket by cutting out the back and sewing it up so that Lauren can wear the jacket with her head through the jacket and it half zipped. It looks like she is wearing it the regular way. I will try to get a picture of this the next time I see Lauren, because I stink at trying to explain it.

DSCN3188.jpg

Here is the best picture I have of the jacket...you can see it cut out on the back.

And Lynn is in the purple shirt!

Lynn also included a very nice Tink jacket and some other goodies for Lauren! Lauren actually traded the jacket (which was really, really big for her) in for this HUGE Mickey and Minnie beach towel (I may have to borrow it sometime) :rolleyes1 Lynn was beyond kind to her...got her lots of gifts and even had it worked out in case she needed to exchange anything.

Lynn took a picture of all of the three pirates and her loot!

DSCN3191.jpg

Lynn, thank you so much for your kindness! You really made our day. The Disney Store is lucky to have you.

We played around the Disney Store for a few more minutes...

DSCN3192.jpg

DSCN3194.jpg

DSCN3195.jpg

Aren't we cute!

And then went shopping around the mall!

Lauren tried on scarfs and bought a couple of outfits.

DSCN3204.jpg

And before we knew it, it was time to go eat supper...and catch up with some more DISers!!

More to come...

Wow! What a great day. and you aren't even finished yet. Lynn was so sweet to do all of that for Lauren. And that looks like a great Disney store, it looks really big.

My turn to pipe in! :woohoo:

Yes, jet lag spanked me pretty hard this time! I don't think I've ever had it this bad in all the dozens of times I've flown across time zones!!! :scared1: Each day gets better though, and instead of taking 4 hour naps each day and only sleeping until 4 AM-- :snooty:, I'm getting through with no nap and making it to a more sane 8 AM-- :cool1:. Thank Heavens!!

So, all good soldiers pull themselves up by the bootstraps and march on, don't they? Yes, sir!! It's great to be feeling a bit more like myself and ready to push on in this saga.

Now, let's pick up where maroo left off, shall we?

First let me add a few pictures that maroo left out... I'm not sure why? :confused3

Here are a couple that give you a good idea of how intense our planning was:

Anyone who knows how long it takes me to drink a cup of coffee would know by the looks of this cup that we sat there for a VERY long time! Mary had her trusty laptop out comparing numbers like a madwoman (okay, maybe not that bad...) and we made long lists of our top priorities for each park and for our time in general. It was TOTAL blast!

Here's one of maroo sporting her glow-in-the-dark T in the glow golf place! Now, wouldn't THAT be fun in Snow White and Peter Pan!?!!?

Now, everyone knows ALL good DIS-ers take a mandatory photo of their tired dogs on the TTA, but who says they have to be tired LOOKING? We ran into this little kiosk, and Lauren gave it a try. I'm thinking that I'm definitely going to have to find that online and get some for our TTA footsie photo! Whatcha think?? And hey, ThatsNice- you can reserve your comments! HA! :rotfl2:

Moving On. Lauren had just bagged a really nice checked shirt and an adorable white scarf to match. She said she didn't really know how to shop, but I didn't believe her for ONE minute!! She cruises- literally! Unfortunately, I did NOT find a suitable bag for our upcoming trip. Hmmm.... do I foretell loads drama in my bag-hunting future in honor of Kathy??? I did however, find some really cute jibbitz to pop into my very first pair of Crocs I scored for the trip. Just think hot pink Original Crocs with sweet little Minnie Mouses adorning their wholly, holey tops. Question- do everyone's Crocs smash their toenails?? I cut mine, but they still seem to hurt the tips of my toesies. :confused3

After we conquered the Mother-of-all-Malls, like soldiers on a mission, we headed over to meet with our newest DIS friends. You've all seen the photos of that meet, so I won't bore you with yet another rendition, but I did want to share one observation I made. Here is the outside of the Nashville RFC:

Here's the one from DTD:

I guess I imagined that they would all look the same, but apparently they are different. :confused3 We put in our name and chatted with the group until our table was ready. Again, it was so nice to meet each of you, and it will sure be fun to keep up with all of your reports.

Now, I don't know of too many DIS-ers that don't enjoy a good meal. Although, I am not a foodie (see last year's Trip Report for more on that! :lmao:) I do enjoy good food and good company. This meal happened to have both ingredients. :woohoo:

After saying our goodbyes to the group, we were quickly seated. The restaurant was loud, but not as loud as I thought it might be. We could still carry on our sweet conversation, but all 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed the sights and sounds around us. The gorillas chattered like my girls, and the elephants roared occasionally like my boys. And the stars shone and meteors fell, like when I fall in love with my DH all over again. :cloud9:

Our server was very attentive and took our order right away. If I had known that maroo would be treating me to my dinner, I would never have ordered that very tasty glass of wine. It did taste good though, after a long day of shopping! And it went with my VERY garlicky pesto pasta dish very nicely. I can't imagine what that must have smelled like upon our hugs good-bye!

Continued in next post

Continuing along.

I had just ordered a very garlicky pasta dish flavored nicely with pesto and broccoli (which I did eat like a good girl, uh hmmm) and maroo and Lauren ordered this tasty little number:

maroo, you should be thankful I'm not your mother!!!! cuz I'd have made you eat your veggies!! See them left here??

Apparently, no trip to RFC is complete without a photo (that they'd love to sell to you for an exhorbinant price) with Cha-Cha the something. Help me out people! Is this a gecko or a frog or a some other rainforest creature??

After a too short dining experience, my parents showed up to gather their offspring. It was time to head back to Bowling Green to pursue more important matters. maroo and Lauren had a long drive ahead of them anyway, so it was time to break up the party. :sad2: But we had to have one last parting shot of the 3 of us.

Just think the next time we get a picture with pretty little fishies, it will be in the Living Seas Pavillion at EPCOT! Woo Hoo!

Meantime, as we Skype together we will no longer be strangers wondering what each other is like. We'll be lifelong friends ready to tackle any battle together!!

Welcome home!! I am glad you are getting over your jet lag.

Now, first questions, first...

Your DH did not tell you, now that you have already had a trip to the States, that you can't take this trip, did he?

First let me add a few pictures that maroo left out... I'm not sure why? :confused3

For the life of me I could not remember why on earth we took a picture of an empty coffee cup? :confused3 :rotfl: :lmao:

I am glad you cleared that up. :rotfl2:

Mary had her trusty laptop out comparing numbers like a madwoman (okay, maybe not that bad...) and we made long lists of our top priorities for each park and for our time in general. It was TOTAL blast!

:rotfl:

I do put on a different personality when I pull out the laptop and start crunching numbers.

Now what would I be crunching numbers about? :rolleyes1

Here's one of maroo sporting her glow-in-the-dark T in the glow golf place! Now, wouldn't THAT be fun in Snow White and Peter Pan!?!!?

I think I left this one out because I look like a dork.

All kidding aside...this shirt WILL be cool in Snow White and Peter Pan. It is very bright when it is in the dark. Our church has COOL VBS shirts!

HA! :rotfl2:

You might want to save your money. Lauren noticed my nail polish was off the next day.

It could be because I was hitting my fingers against her chair all day when I was picking her up to move her or something, but that polish did not last 24 hours on my hands. - So, see...I CAN save you money! ;)

Moving On. Lauren had just bagged a really nice checked shirt and an adorable white scarf to match. She said she didn't really know how to shop, but I didn't believe her for ONE minute!! She cruises- literally!

Yes, once Lauren gets going, she certainly can shop!

She wore that shirt and scarf to church yesterday and it was super cute!

I have a "week off" from Lauren this week, because I am going out of town and they are getting the house ready for Grandmother (they have lots of company), but when I get back to her house, I will take pics of what she bought.

She liked shopping with you! She said YOU had good taste. :rotfl:

Unfortunately, I did NOT find a suitable bag for our upcoming trip. Hmmm.... do I foretell loads drama in my bag-hunting future in honor of Kathy??? I cut mine, but they still seem to hurt the tips of my toesies. :confused3

The jibbitz are going to be so cute in her crocs!!!

I do think the crocs are too small if your toes hit the ends. I understand that properly fitting crocs actually don't touch your feet at all when you are standing still in them. :confused3 Can anyone confirm this?

Our server was very attentive and took our order right away. If I had known that maroo would be treating me to my dinner, I would never have ordered that very tasty glass of wine.

I figured you traveled the furthest for this meet! And you Dad insisted on picking up lunch, so it was only fair. You don't have to worry, though...I won't always pay! :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

maroo, you should be thankful I'm not your mother!!!! cuz I'd have made you eat your veggies!! See them left here??

:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I don't like cucumbers. :snooty:

:lmao:

It was so cool to meet you and get to know you!

Aw! I can't believe we won't see each other for another year yet! That is just crazy.

I can't wait to plan some more of this trip!

I will save you guys the last part of our mini TR - because Liesa did a great job summing it up for us!!

I will tell you that our plan to go to church the next day did not work out. We planned on visiting the church of an old friend of mine.

But when we arrived at the second Marriott, we were informed that they had NO rooms with roll in showers. Nevermind that this is a direct violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (I am still in conversations with Marriott and the ADA about that issue), we were unable to give Lauren a proper shower. So...we just got up the next morning and drove the rest of the way back to Jackson.

This was an awesome trip! We got to eat some great food and do some shopping...but the best part was definitely the people. It was well worth a 13 hour round trip to meet everyone! Especially Liesa - who I feel like I knew already and feel like I have known forever!

I can't wait for this trip. Any trepidation I had before our little meet is gone. We tour the same way and are going to get along great. Even if I don't drink coffee.

I haven't been DISing for a few weeks and have a lot to catch up on!

Liesa - first of all I am so sorry to hear about your Grandma and Dad. I wish your trip to the States had been under better circumstances. However, it sounds like you had a great mini-DIS meet which I am sure brightened your spirits.

What a fun day you guys had and I am glad you got to do some trip planning in person. I am sure it is much easier to plan when you can just sit and chat. I can't wait until you fill us in on some of the trip decisions you made.

I love that Lauren was able to come with you Mary! :headache: to the hotels! Keep after them until you get some answers. It was so sweet of Lynn to do all of that for Lauren! She is so generous with the Big Give families too.

DISers do have their own language and I sometimes forget that when talking to "regular" people. I am glad Lauren got converted to the dark side and that rope drop might take priority over two hours of hair and make-up.

BTW Mary it was great talking to you in IRL tonight!

Looks like the pre-dinner mini-meet was great too - more details on that please!

Looking forward to the next update from one of our generals (or did you get promoted again already?)

It's okay, I was out for quite a spell too! Life happens.

Thanks!! It has been quite a painful thing to go through, with lots of "stuff" to wade through. Thanks for your concern and well wishes- and yes, the day with Mary was quite a bright spot in my 2 weeks there! :cloud9:

Heck yeah!! We could cover so much more, in such a shorter time! Wish we could do it again, but probly won't happen! More Skyping I guess! :surfweb:

Lynn was more than wonderful! So great to have met her; in fact, she's on my next PM.

All I can add is that it was very short (maybe 15 minutes max), but cordial and interesting. I had only known about it for a few days before it happened. If I had known a bit more beforehand, or the circumstances were different, I would have liked to have read everyone's TRs before meeting them.

Looking forward to the next update from one of our generals (or did you get promoted again already?)

There's a whole installment about this tasty little subject coming up soon! :rolleyes1

What a wonderful DIS meet. Looks like you had a blast. I absolutely love Cheesecake factory. Yummo!

What a wonderful DIS meet. Looks like you had a blast. I absolutely love Cheesecake factory. Yummo!

We sure did have a nice time together! I think we're really going to have a nice time together.

I think the Cheesecake Factory is a bit hit and miss. The first time we went (earlier that week) it was great. The time with maroo was only so-so.

The corn cakes were rather "mushy" and the fish tacos were kinda "fishy" tasting.

Well, I'm finally all caught up. I'm so glad that the mini-meet went well! Sounds like you are all going to have a GREAT time when you return to The World!

Uh-Oh... more Bag Drama!!

RE: Crocs... are yours the Beach or the Cayman style??

The Beach tend to be a bit roomier, but only come in limited sizes... the Caymans are more streamlined and good for in-between sizes. The Crocs website says that if your toes are touching the inner edge of the shoe, then they are too small and you need the next size up. :thumbsup2

I originally got my Caymans in my usual size, but my middle toes were touching the front of the shoe, so I exchanged for the next size up and they are so comfy!!!
