hi everyone! i read *most* of the previous posts but there's alot to get through lol. i have a few questions and i figured you were the people to ask. I shall be staying in a deluxe room come this september and i was wondering, well, everything lol. we have never stayed at WL before. Do kids love the pool? do the restaurants have chicken nuggets or pasta (dd loves those two foods) are there generally some good discount codes for september? (we're willing to buy an AP if the codes for that are good) We'll be driving down, is the view of the lodge as you're arriving knock your socks off? (i want the kids to love it) is everything fairly close at hand, no 15 minute walks to get to the pool? hmmmmmmmm this is all i can think of right now

thanks in advance for your advice!!

WL VETs! Popping over to say HI! Got a chance during the holidays to behold the BEYUTEEFULLL Decorations and Christmas trees at the Lodge and Villas. Unbelievable! You can't help but feel happy at that place, especially during the holidays!

For those who may have a chance to stay in the VWL just wanted to note that I am a non-smoker and have always requested a non-smoking room, studio, etc... Due to my late check in I was given the last available room on the 2nd floor (ALLLLLL the way down that long, long corridor!):p. I did not realize until the next day that it was a smoking room! THAT is how good Mousekeeping cleaned it. Nothing looked or smelled smoky and I was very content to stay put! So even if you end up in a smoking room, DON'T IMMEDIATELY PANIC! It might be okay!

HELLO KIMMAR, FLORIDA CAT, ASPIRINGCINDY, BLUEORCHID, MAJESTIC, CORKY and all the WL vets and WL fans! Hope you have a great new year!

Well, I will give this a shot. ::yes::

1> My daughter at 3 loves ALL of the pools. Then again, she's part human and part fish I believe. Heheh....Loves swimming.

2> Restaraunts have exactly what you need and then some! Roaring forks has you covered for sure and they also have some great PBJ sandwiches! I love those! Well, to be honest, I can't be positive about the pasta but I know they have nuggets. Pretty sure that Whispering Canyon has pasta though.

Can't help ya with AP discounts. I've never owned an AP. :)

The view WILL ABSOLUTELY KNOCK your socks off! I love this hotel. Honestly!!

As for everything handy and close, you have 3 restaraunts in the same hotel and a full service gift shop that has everything from gifts to food to milk and even BEER! RAH RAH! Hahaha....

Of course, the resort is conveniently located 2 minutes down the street to the Polynesian so nice short ride to go there for eats. You can also take boat transportation to The Magic Kingdom or Poly, Contemporary, or Grand Floridian. If you wanted to go to Epcot, you could take a boat to any of the above resorts then take the monorail to the TTC (Transportaion Ticket Center) and take the monorail that heads to epcot.

Hope this all helped! We will be down there in a few days and can't wait! ::yes::

Kids LOVE the pool...and all age kids too!
All the restaurants have childrens meals-hamburger, nuggets, grilled cheese, hotdogs, PBJ
Supposedly, Sept. is a great time to go. Not only is it value season, but the crowds are small!
When you drive up to the lodge, you are driving on a road with trees on both sides. It is not till you reach the clearing that you actually see WL. IT WILL KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF! Because the resort is contained in one building, nothing is longer than a 5-7 minute walk.
Any other questions...just give a holler!

Right back at ya! Thanks for the great pictures! Wish they would still have the decos up when we get there in a few days but alas, I fear they won't. Will still be a good trip though!

The excitement is building!!

WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD! WOOHOO! ::yes::

Disbug,

Was just reading your report on your trip last night...so funny.
Once again your pictures are beautiful, the tree at the Villas in the atrium was spectacular. (only picture I've seen posted) Would you please send it to Majestic so he can add it to the WL collection? Also noted your driving time is same as mine are you in Jax? (I'm in OP, Clay County)

excitedmom,

Hi,
WELCOME HOME, because once you stay at WL you will feel like your coming home. The WL is one of the smallest Resorts so walk time is very limited everything is right there. Also welcome to the DIS Boards and to WL FAQ...
The Deluxe rooms are located at the end of the North and South Wings most overlook Bay Lake. When I have stay in them have requested South Wing so we could stand on balcony and watch the EWP and the lake..I think you have a better view from South but that's just me.
DELUXE-TWO QUEEN BEDS & ONE SOFA BED (sleeps 6) The Deluxe Guest Room has a sitting area separated from the bedroom by french doors, additional television, refrigerator with ice machine, coffeemaker, and wet bar.

We always just used the stairs located very close to the Deluxe rooms to go to the pools, time (1 min.) Going back-up to room (30 min) No just kidding...

Have a Magical Trip & PIXIE DUST :wizard:

Have I said this before? What you want to know about WL, what you need to know about WL is right here. Not some glitzy travel book review, but from all us folks that have been there and done that. Enough said.

I know, we are wacky witty and zany, but when the bell rings we are all business. Read the first two pages of the thread as we like Newbies to arrive at WL like “old hands”. Come On Back And Be A Part Of The “WL Family”.

Wishing the latest bunch arriving a very Magical trip. Laugh and act like the kid in you and forget your everyday cares as life can turn so fast.
LAUGH WHEN YOU CAN SEZ I

OMG - I had no idea this thread was this extensive. I've read thru 12 pages and now must get some housework done.

We've stayed at WL in Nov '94 shortly after it opened. We were celebrating our 10 year anniversary. Brought the young uns with us and the day after we arrived so did tropical storm Gordon. The lodge was absolutely impressive. However what I seem to remember most from the trip was how wet we remained. Our shoes never dried out.

So - the 20 year anniversary will be here before we know it. Once again thinking of spending at at the Lodge. My question is are there ground level rooms with access to outside.? I just can't seem to remember. We had a balcony room last time and we were wondering what our options may be.

Nolcrest,

First Welcome Home, Yes the rooms on the first floor have access to outside via the patios. Just remember that the Lobby is actually located on the second floor so you have to go down to reach the first floor???

thanks for the responses, they really help. now onto another question. The earlier i arrive, do i have the better chance of getting a room i want? not that i want a specific room per say but say i arrive at 8am. when i'm checking in can i say i'd like a room on a lower floor on the south side and have a better chance of getting it than arriving at 4pm? also, how early is too early to arrive?we'll be driving down from ontario and i want to give myself plenty of time but if i arrive at like, 7am will there be a problem with that? ( i don't sleep well when excited so i'd rather drive than pace a hotel room waiting for everyone else to wake up when they could be sleeping in the car lol)

excitedmom,

I have always found that with early check-in the CM's have more options available and should be able to accommodate you...however no request are guaranteed. (unless for medical reasons) I believe you can check-in as early as 7:00am but the room may not be ready until 3:00pm. So if you are OK with waiting for what you want, you'll have a better chance. ::yes::

thanks, that's what i figured lol i just wanted to make sure. This is going to be soooooooo fantastic lol i can't wait till september

Wow, I was away for a few days, and Im pages behind.

Glad to be back to my WL family

Fred, wooo 2 days and counting. Im happy for you.

Pixie dust and magical moments to you for your forthcoming trip.

:wave2:

Needed to share a little story....

We had chili for dinner last night and I made WC cornbread (of course). Anyhow, my 5 yr old DS had his little friend over for dinner. He asked what cornbread was and my wonderful little angel said - "Oooh, cornbread is yummy. My mommy makes the bestest cornbread..." :teeth:

It doesn't sound so magical when I write it out, but that's truly the first time my son has said I did the "best" anything. Usually he's always talking about how Daddy this and Daddy that.

Anyhow, that's the story. FC - I was thinking about you. Trust me when I tell you that I ate enough for the both of us :p

Care to share the recipe?

MagicinMyHeart,

Thanks for the reply. Now one more question please. Would a ground floor (1st floor) patio room be in all locations (parking lot, lake, pool etc)? Trying to get as much info as I can before I make a phone call and spend money on hold.;) I love this thread. Really wish it too had the music.

excitedmom
we check in early, have Bell Sevice put the bags in storage and hop a bus/boat and hit a park. WCC has the best Mac & Cheese at WDW, also at Trials End at FTW.

The story on the Mac & Cheese as told to us by a Manager CM was Disney brought in all the WDW Chefs and had them fix their version. They then filled WCC with children to sample and pick the winner. that is the recipe served at the two places.

Liv2CdWorld
Thanks for eating my share of the Cornbread. LOL Was wondering why I did not feel very hungry today. Yummy.

Majestic,

I probably asked this before but could you see FW from your balcony?

All of the concierge CM's at WL said they prefer the Yosemite Suite over the Yellowstone Suite. Unfortunately, the Yosemite Suite is booked for the days we are staying.

Are you staying at WL in a few days? Concierge?

Have a good trip.
