Lightspeed ahead to a healthier you! April 2016 WISH challenge... all are welcome!

MFP and Fitbit? Or LoseIt and Fitbit? One of the main reasons I switched to MFP is because I was able to get my steps and calorie adjustments in real time on MFP where LoseIt you had to upgrade. Also LoseIt assumes a certain level of activity (I lost that 69lbs w/LoseIt) where MFP doesn't soi feel the adjustment w/the Fitbit is more accurate. Anyway, I get a macro breakdown on MFP without paying-carbs/fats/protein.

I've read that with MFP you should recalculate every 10lbs, it doesn't readjust on its own. I'm as low as you can go on there so I haven't really done it. I just try to leave some on the table after my Fitbit adjustment to create a buffer.

Everything I read yesterday said you had to upgrade MFP to track macros. I looked up several ways to track macros in the two apps without paying but everything said it couldn't be done. Idk. I loved lose it but stopped using it to use MFP to team up with people here but that hasn't really proved beneficial. My Fitbit and MFP are linked but the food doesn't show up in MFP only the exercise. it's not a big deal as, like I said, I'm able to use desktop version right now.

You have to put your food in MFP and then it will port over to the Fitbit. That might be why you're not seeing them. If you scroll down to "nutrition" in your diary that's where they'd be. It gives percentages of the basics, carbs, fat, protein, sodium, vitamins, fiber etc. The "premium" I think gives more detailed breakdowns.

I don't participate in the forums on MFP and I hate their recipe builder compared to LoseIt but I do like how it works with Fitbit and seeing the calories in real time. If you feel like the desktop isn't working for you later and you need help with the app, let me know, I'd be happy to help.

everyone...I miss you!!!

I won't play the same record over and over...i'm still having health issues and falling behind in life and so the dis-time has been slim. and what time I did was spent on the cruise board and booking our PC cruise for 2017!
I am new just want to wish you speedy recovery

Happy Friday All!

I went to TRX class list night, it was great fun. I decided not to create more then 600 calories deficit between MFP and fitbit in hope I will make it more sustainable long term. This meant I enjoyed some extra roasted chickpeas & feta cubes as post workout snack! Yum

I went to get a coffee and bagel today and spend 10 minutes trying to guess lower calorie option between 5 bagels and end up choosing egg & tomatoes. Back at my desk - my bagel is 327 calories (yey) and the nearest alternative is 530 so I made the best choice - happy with that! I wish they will publish the calories in the restaurant so I don't have to guess but still glad they have the info available

Feeling much more positive today - sun is shinning, it's Friday and I am bursting of energy

It was good to take few weeks off gym but it's also good energy works on supply and demand, less you move less energy you have and more you do - your energy seem to be going up

I will do my weekly weigh in tomorrow or Sunday and will post results.

What is your choice for a "dairy" drink? How do you consume it? Do you eat other dairy products such as yogurt, ice cream, cheese? DO YOU THINK that getting dairy into your diet is important?

If you do NOT eat or drink any of the calcium rich dairy products such as cow's milk, how do you get your calcium?

I am not a plain milk fan at all! It was only a couple of years ago that I was able to start having plain milk with cereal - before that I would have it with chocolate milk if I ate cereal at all. I don't drink it regularly although sometimes tend to have it in winter more often in a hot milo (do you have milo over there? I'm not sure). Or a chocolate milkshake every so often - I do find though if I have too much of it - I feel ill. I do like cheese and enjoy the soft cheeses like brie with crackers. Yoghurt no a huge fan and I have ice-cream occasionally. I do worry about my calcium intake as my Mum has osteoporosis.

If I drink milk, it's chocolate milk. Regular milk is awful, I hate it

I'm with you!

Yesterday was one for the record books... I just went for it and shoved everything I'd been dreaming about into my mouth, including chocolate and ice cream. I have to say I didn't get the pleasure I was hoping for from any of it and ended up feeling pretty crappy. I was up a pound this morning, so not too much damage done. Back on track today and refocused. I am planning on taking all dairy out of my diet for the next week because I know that will help jumpstart the weightloss.

Lol you made me laugh - this can be so me sometimes. I do think its a good thing though when we have these unhealthier foods and find that we are changing when they just don't satisfy us like they used to!

everyone...I miss you!!!

I won't play the same record over and over...i'm still having health issues and falling behind in life and so the dis-time has been slim. and what time I did was spent on the cruise board and booking our PC cruise for 2017! Magdalene -- i'll have to go read your trip report! anyhow, I will be away the first of May (another reason why i'm struggling is I've been away from home a ton) but I hope to rejoin after I return!! (((((hugs))))) save my spot!

Sorry about your health - hope its not too bad and you feel better soon. Bon Voyage for your cruise see around the boards when you get back.

This isn't related to anything, but has anyone signed up for hosting duties for June or July?

I'd like to sign up to host. I'll be in a post-Disney funk after May, so I'd prefer June. I'll take July if June is already taken.

I signed up for June and I can't do July or August. But if you are keen on June, please feel free to take it!! I can always do September or October! I only signed up to fill the months...

I would never want to step on your toes - I can definitely take July. :)

Congrats on taking on June - it'l be a great theme for sure!

Put me down for August (unless I can talk @flvy into coming back!)... Hopefully I'll be back to 100% by then, what with hopefully nabbing the Princess 10K sign up in July. Plus I hosted August last year so it'll be a fun little 1-year mark! Lol

Thank you to all of you for stepping up to host!! I'll go ahead and add you all to the hosting calendar on page one!

Okay friends... happy Friday! Not sure if I told you all or not, but we are taking a road trip to look at 2 colleges this weekend. DS needs to make his final decisions by 5/1, so this couldn't wait any longer. We were going to try and see 3, but it just wasn't going to be feasible as they are spread apart pretty far. So we drove as far as my parents' house in southern MA today and are leaving here at 8am to head to Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. We will stay overnight in the area tonight and attend Accept Students day tomorrow. From there we will drive up to New York State and visit Rochester Institute of Technology on Sunday (I cannot forget to call today to set up a tour... we missed Accepted Students Day due to the robotics schedule).

Anyhow, I have a laptop with me (thank you DS!) which is MUCH easier to work on than my Ipad when it comes to posting here, so I should be able to pop on once or twice over the next few days.

So many responses to the dairy QOTD from yesterday. I was kind of surprised I didn't see anyone commenting about how humans should not be drinking cow's milk. I know that there are people out there who feel very strongly about this. I definitely am on the side of "I don't think we should drink so much but it is such an ingrained part of our diet" camp. DS loves, loves, loves milk and I wish he wouldn't drink so much. But he has a nut allergy and as such cannot drink almond milk or coconut milk. I definitely don't want him drinking soy milk either. When he was younger and had issues drinking milk he drank chocolate rice milk, but like someone else said, it is basically colored (sweetened) water. And he also loves pizza (with cheese of course) and ice cream and the occasional cheese stick... so he is eating a TON of dairy. Trying to train him to drink WATER with meals, at least!

That being said, my grandmother suffered terribly with osteoporosis in her later years... she had multiple spine fractures and her last few years of life were spent in pain.... it was sad to witness. So GO TAKE YOUR SUPPLEMENTS FRIENDS!

Next up....your Fun Friday QOTD!!..................P

Anyone follow Georgie Fear on facebook? I don't agree with everything in her book but I like her over all approach. She has comments on the milk debate

I think milk is perfectly ok for the majority of population. My son still loves his milk and I have no intention to limit it. He is 9, little underweight but very active - plays football and swimming. He doesn't drink fizzy drinks, even when out for meal or any other beverages - generally the odd home made green smothie but daily milk and water

Casual Friday.... does it happen at your place of employment? Or maybe you are a casual place all the time? Regardless, what is your FAVORITE work outfit (not workout outfit!)? Do you find that clothes are becoming more comfortable and fitting better as you lose weight? Do you look forward more to dressing up a bit now that you have lost some weight? How about sharing a picture of one of your favorite outfits.... or a photo of you rocking a new pair of jeans or a pretty dress that FINALLY fits again!??

BTW, if you DO get to have casual Fridays in your workplace, please consider buying one of these FUN t-shirts from our very own JacknSally! They are super cute! I want them ALLLLLL!

Pam,
You are going to be across the state from me. MY ds2 is at Villanova and his fiance is living in Glassboro which is right across the river from Philly. They are there all the time. Have a good time. The weather is supposed to be beautiful. Good luck on the decision.

I love the shirts.

When I was teaching we started our own casual Friday many years ago. Many of us had bought denim shirts with the school logo on them and wore them on Friday along with a pair of jeans. About a year before I left the BOE told us no more casual Friday's unless there is a fund raiser going on. So during my last year every other Friday there was some sort of fundraiser going on. We could even suggest a cause that we liked and if the principal okayed it then you were given a Friday where you could set up a donation box.

Yep, that's how it works. I have MFP and Fitbit set up for 1lb a week/sedentary and get (or lose, like when I was sick this weekend :() calories all day. I try to walk enough to create another 500 cal deficit plus 100 cals of chocolate every night, lol. MFP gives me 1200 but with around 15,000 steps I eat 14-1600 and have 3-600 left over. I'm steadily losing an average of 1.75 lbs (sometimes I lose 2, sometimes none, sometimes 3 ) a week and manage to "bank" calories for a treat meal here and there. I've found Fitbit connected to MFP to be one of the greatest tools out there. As long as you are honest with your calories in, it makes it easy peasy to do.

Mine are linked too. I love it. It makes it really easy.

Only if you upgrade to the $10 a month plan :( it's ok, i'm always near my computer so i don't mind using the fitbit desktop!

We have the cheapest Fitbit and the too are synced with each other and we do no have to pay. Is the $10 for something more then? Maybe I am missing something since we have the cheapest one.

Oh, yes! This makes me mad, too! I loved it in California where very fast food place had the calories directly on the menu.

I decided not to create more then 600 calories deficit between MFP and fitbit in hope I will make it more sustainable long term.

I am working with a 750 kcal deficit and that works really well for me. Not a huge difference between 600 and 750 and I find that for me this works very well. As you say, I find it important to set myself goals that I can actually reach instead of being disappointed of falling short. It also helps me to take care of fuelling my body as it needs it - just as you did with your chickpea snack!

I never commented on the dairy question, but one thing that always amazes me is how important it seems for Americans to drink milk, especially for kids. Here you would rarely see someone drinking a milk as a drink in a restaurant (most places would not even have it on the menu) and kids mainly just drink it for breakfast. However, there is a lot of cheese and other dairy products in our diet, so I guess that is a source of calcium for many people. Also, yoghurt seems to be much more a typical snack item here. I know that my tiny supermarket here has a larger yoghurt selection than the large Publix at WDW that we visited on my last stay there. I love all dairy products, I would even love to drink milk, but don't because of the calories. Here in Germany low fat dairy products are far less prevailing than in the US. For example, the yoghurt is mainly 3.5% fat, sometimes 1.7% (that is my standard), you nearly never find fresh skimmed milk, low fat cheese is about 5% of all the cheese on offer. I have actually started to move away from the very low fat dairy products and find that I am much happier with a tiny piece of full fat cheese than with double the amount of low fat cheese. I recently read something about how there is even some research suggesting that dairy fat does have a lot of benefits and that it does not lead to weight gain.

All in all, I don't think that dairy is bad for everyone. But I do believe in listening to your body and see what is good for you instead of desperately trying to follow the newest nutritional fad. Getting ideas is never bad and if someone finds out that they feel better when they cut dairy, then that is fine by me. However, I am not trying to tell anyone what their diet MUST be, so I can get very annoyed if someone does it to me! (Sorry, will immediately leave the soap box - and point out that I never felt that anyone on this thread would fall into this category!). And even I sometimes get a carton of oat milk to mix it up - and because it is really tasty, especially in coffee!

My place of work is quite relaxed, I can more or less wear what I want most days. And people dress at different levels. I definitely have work outfits that I love more than others, especially in the summer I have a few really cute dresses for work that I love! I know that when I am starting to feel more comfortable in my body again, I do put more effort into looking better for work as it is more fun. When the clothes start getting tight, it is no fun and I then tend to dress down more.

This is a picture of me in one of those summer work dresses that I have, I even have a lovely white long cardigan to go with it. The picture is not from work, but from my Panama Canal cruise on the Disney Wonder in 2014. I think I was a little thinner then than I am now, but only about 2 to 4 pounds... I know that by the end of the 15 night cruise I was definitely heavier than I am now!! The guy next to me is of course the captain of the ship: Captain Fabian! We had a nice chat about Germany as he was involved in the team from Disney that was at the shipyard in Germany when they built the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.

Oh, don't worry. A serving of thin mints for me is the whole box. I just can't help myself. Seriously, a whole box will be gone in 10 minutes. No exaggeration. And of course this year DH had two coworkers whose kids were selling. Can't buy from one and not the other! And then my dad bought me a box because he knows I love them. And then DH got cornered by a group as he came out of Kroger. I singlehandedly ate 4 boxes of Thin Mints this season. Bahaha.

Last year while training for Princess I was out doing a long run. Due to the extreme snow we had last year, I had to stick to major roads for safety. At about mile 5 I passed a troop of girls scouts selling girl scout cookies. I was on the opposite side of the road, but after my turn around at mile 6 I passed them again at mile 7. I never wished I had three dollars with me so much in my life:) Later in the afternoon I went grocery shopping and sure enough, on the way out, more girl scouts selling cookies. I bought some and ate a whole box that day. The other boxes I don't think made it through the week, definitely not two weeks. This year I never saw them being sold anywhere, so sad.

Went to the running store today and got fitted for my first pair of running shoes. For someone who always just orders shoes online and never got truly fitted for a pair, I can't believe how nice they feel. I really was hoping a pair of Nike's would come out on top, but I had to pull the trigger on the Mizuno Wave Inspire 12's. They feel amazing. Can't wait to try them out tomorrow! Added bonus that they had 20% off for teachers during the month of April!

The pure joy of new well fitted running shoes is an amazing thing. And you were very smart to go with what you liked on your feet, just not what you had in your mind. I didn't like the look of my favorite shoes last year, so I kept trying to find others, but in the end, what works works. I did have pair of Mizuno's I loved, but I didn't like them as much when they updated them. Mine were Wave Riders. Enjoy your run!

We are aloud to wear jeans on Friday. We should wear a nice top with it but every once in awhile I can pull off wearing my Garth Brooks concert t-shirt. I don't have just one outfit I like. it really just depends on my mood and how much time I give myself to get ready in the morning. If I am running late I will not pick something that I need to iron. Since gaining weight I love wearing leggings. I have some really nice tops to wear with them so I can wear them to work.

I have a few dresses that do not fit me anymore that I would live to be able to wear again. I will back to that weight again hopefully by this time next year.

Check In - I lost another 1.8 pounds this week. That puts me at about 50% of my goal completed.

I finally got past the dreaded 144. I seemed to have been stuck there for awhile. I am so excited today. It made my morning. As long as I continue with what I have been doing I will hit a short term goal. I should be able to hit 135 by Disney. I can't wait. So much excitement in the next month and a half. End of the school year for the kids, meetings for PTA stuff will be over, more time for me, losing weight and the Disney trip.

I kid you not, DH and I ran out of a grocery store to avoid the Girl Scouts that had cornered and guilted some other sucker into buying cookies lol. I was like "Now's our chance. Go!" I just cannot be trusted with the cookies.

For someone who always just orders shoes online and never got truly fitted for a pair, I can't believe how nice they feel

Those are great! I felt the same way when I got fitted for my first pair. I always just bought cheap Nikes and this time I went to a running store, got my stride analyzed and tried on several pairs. I ended up with Brooks Glycerin 12s and oh my gosh. It was like running on a cloud. They're about at the end of their life. I've probably put around 300 miles on them. So anyone who works out really needs to get fitted for a good pair of shoes. It'll change your life!

This is my last casual friday  In my building, the first floor employees can wear jeans on Fridays. But I'm moving up to the 9th floor. Which means I'm working on the same floor as upper level management. So no more jeans for me. Unless I pay $5 on specific fundraising days (for example April 22nd I get to wear jeans). I do love dressing up though, especially now that I love my body more.

My workplace is pretty casual always. Never graphic t-shirt casual, though. My favorite work outfit is a cute dress I picked up from an outlet 2 years ago. I has a little belt and I love it. It started fitting not-so-cute on me last summer. I hope I feel better in it this summer. I also LOVE my white jeans I got from Loft. I'm moving out of my apartment June 1st (regardless of whether or not I move to NYC) and I plan on a major clothing purge/wardrobe overhaul. This is enough to push me to stay on track!

Sadly, I wear scrubs to work. On the bright side, it's a lot like wearing your pajamas with tennis shoes! And I don't have any favorite outfits yet, unless I count my favorite pair of pajama pants that I rock pretty much every day that I'm not at work but I doubt you'd like to see those :)

Hmm... I work for myself and mostly out of my house, so I have two extremes of work clothes. Either casual run around clothes (for when I'm doing everything except meeting clients, opposing counsel or going to court) or suits. I've never loved suits. I feel they are very boring, especially conservative, lawyer suits. We all look the same - put together and nice, but the same. Right now, I have exactly one suit that fits correctly, but they are so expensive that I'm not interested in outfitting myself in a closet full of suits until I feel I've reached my goal. So, I buy a new black suit as I change sizes and switch out the tops. Luckily, I don't dress up often - maybe a couple of times a month.

I was actually looking at your store @JackandSally79 I love the tshirts "best day ever" and am going to run them by my husband for our trip in June. We're all on board to put our best foot forward in an attempt to be the family of the day at MK (I know it's a long shot), but I think your shirts might help!

I do have one shirt that finally fits again - I've kept it for a long time - probably 10 years. It was such a splurge (you're going to look at it like - THAT was a splurge? but remember, lawyers are boring) that I could never give it away. It's a Thomas Pink shirt with double cuffs - meaning it requires cuff links. They sell for almost $200 a shirt these days. It's one of the few things in my closet that I hung onto that I still love. Many other things that now fit, I think to myself- why did I keep that? I wore it the other day and felt awesome!

I put it on a took a pic with the jeans I'm wearing today. It even looks good with jeans! Because you can't see the pattern, I took a pic of that too. I've always really loved this shirt!
