Lights! Motor! Asian?--Feb 2010 Part II. 11/6-Pix, part 2. Page 199.

Wow Derek - that is scary!! :scared1: The ocean is such a mighty force when it wants to be! I'm glad it ended nicely and Erin didn't get frightened.
The rest of the weekend sounds like the two of you had a wonderful time though.

Happy Mother's Day to Wendy!

Hi to Jordan!

Thanks for the laugh at my expense about 6 more years of YMCA Indian Guides/Princess events....:rotfl:...yeah, Wendy was asking if I wanted to do Cub Scouts with Dylan (which starts at age 6) so I could skip a year and I had to think about it since Cub Scouts involves "real" camping events like backpacking in the Sierras, cooking over a backpack camp stove, eating dried fruit, etc. whereas Indian Guides is more laid back, like pack up the car, head up to the YMCA Winter/Summer campsite, share a cabin/tent with 8 other dads/kids and eat camp food. I was like, "isn't there an option behind Door #3 for overnight stays at the Disneyland Hotel and going to Disneyland?" :lmao:

Sounds like my kind of campout!:thumbsup2 You could camp out in Adventureland! Maybe you can convince Disney this would be very educational for the Cub Scouts!

Tracey, it was a nice weekend and you wouldn't believe it, but all of the dads were sending compliments to our tribe chief for planning this great campout as well as leading our group for the past 3 years. Who said that guys don't know how to be sensitive. All of these "lovefest" comments were being shared about how much the dads and daughters enjoyed spending time together. I'm sad to see it end but am excited for starting "Chapter 2: The Misadventures of Indian Guides" with Dylan. Thanks also, on behalf of Wendy, for the Mother's Day wishes.:thumbsup2

Yeah, maybe we could do Adventures with Disney as our camping experiences....can we build a badge (patch) process around visiting all of the Disney theme parks worldwide? Kind of like the Ellie badge in UP?:rotfl:

Ahhh thanks for that mental picture Camille! for a minute there I was at MK with you! We still have record lows at night - 18 degrees! My brave tulips are blooming anyway!

Oh, and a smell I don't care to remember, the unmistakable scent of those who do not shower or wash their clothes or wear deodorant before coming to WDW or America. Really? Does your nose work? :rotfl2:

Tammie! Congrats on the cruise!! How exciting! :goodvibes

Sorry to hear about the record lows, the weather has been so out of character everywhere it seems. I thought for sure we had already hit sprummer here (you know where it's spring for about a minute and then goes straight into summer weather  ) and then it hit a low yesterday. I was able to have the house open again. :cloud9:
I'm glad your flowers are still trying to come up. :goodvibes

OMGosh Derek, so glad both of you are okay!! That sounds like a seriously scary ordeal.
It was scary but the worst part was that one dad had an ever worse story to tell. My cousin-in-law, John, and his daughter Mari actually flipped in their kayak. John's life vest wasn't fully zipped so when he came up for air, his vest was choking him around his neck. Meanwhile, Mari went under the water and popped up a couple of times under the overturned kayak. After about 2-3 times of this, John finally grabbed Mari from under the overturned kayak and pulled her under the water and around the side of the kayak. She is still slightly traumatized from the event.:scared1:

Guess we'll be scratching kayaking from future Indian Princess events. Ironically, I was talking with another dad at Dylan's Pre-School Open House on Friday who happens to be an Indian Princess dad in another tribe and was trying to talk me into buying a kayak and doing it as a regular recreational activity. Suffice it to say, I didn't tell him our story.:rolleyes1

Poor Mari!

Kayaking in the ocean is a bad way to begin. I love kayaking with my family but on a lake or pond, never out on the bay. The water is just too choppy and it's not fun for me. I like to putt around slowly, not struggle to stay afloat. Too bad you had a bad experience because it really is enjoyable.

Oh my goodness!!! I hope Mari won't be afraid of the water because of that.

I remember when I was 11, I was on a camping trip with my scout group, and something similar happened. A friend and I were in our little canoe, VERY far away from shore and we couldn't get back! We went out in the afternoon and it was starting to get dark. We were really scared.

Eventually, one of our leaders came out in a boat and rescued us.

Jordy, we'd love to see your light on around here. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. :thumbsup2

We miss you, come back and play when your up to it.

Hi folks, I just wanted to update you all on Wendy's dad (since several have been keeping him in prayer for his cancer). Well, he was admitted into the ER on Monday morning for pain in his abdomen and was found to have divirticulitis (swelling or inflammation of an abdominal pouch) which is preventing him from releasing toxins in his body via urine or stool (sorry, I know this is gross). However, as a result of this build up, he now has sepsis (which is severe buildup of bacteria in his bloodstream). He also has a number of other health concerns (renal failure for his remaining single kidney, weak lungs from pulmonary fibrosis, low blood pressure and low white cell count, possible internal bleeding, and possible dead colon due to lack of blood). As a result his prognosis is not good and we're watching his health day by day.

This is on top of other minor health concerns we've been addressing as an immediate family so this week has been tough. We're trying to adjust to our childcare needs by taking time off of work and requesting help from Jordan and my parents but this is a major impact on our family.

I (we) appreciate the support and kindness that you have shown to Jordan, Wendy and me and just wanted to keep you in the loop as we would our "extended family". In brief, I (we) may be away from the boards to care for our immediate family's needs.

It seems in life, "when it rains, it pours" (speaking on behalf of Jordan's concerns, Wendy's dad's health concerns, Wendy's second cousin's recent diagnosis of lymphoma, a family friend's diagnosis of liver cancer, etc., etc.).

Thanks again to everyone for your support and encouragement.
:worship:

Wendy and Derek, I am so very sorry to hear this. I know there is nothing I can do to help, but I wanted you to know that your family is in our prayers.

Still here, still praying. I am reminded of Eccl. for your family. Comfort and peace to you all! Your missionary friend in a country far, far away. But close in spirit. ;)

Derek and Wendy,

I am so sorry you two and Jordan, are being hit so hard by life right now. Just know that I am praying for you and your family. I know how hard this must be for Wendy I lost both my parents at a very young age and know that this will be one of the hardest things in her life to overcome. But I trust that you will be there to love and support her and help her get through this.

May god bless you and keep, make his face shine upon you, and give you peace. :littleangel:

Wendy (yes I'm another Wendy)

Thanks so much for your prayers... haven't heard anything today so no news must mean he made it through the night - yay! :thumbsup2

Wendy (the other Wendy!) I'm so sorry to hear of your loss ... I can't imagine losing parents at a young age... not that we're ever ready but to have to deal with that younger must be so much harder... appreciate your prayers.

Will keep you all posted... and sorry that this is seriously deviating from a TR! Jordan better post something soon so this *sorta* gets back on track as being a trip report!!!

p.s. our other cousin with the lymphoma is like a new man after getting 3 units of blood! he's got his last treatment today and he's doing great! feeling better than he has in a long time (makes them wish they knew about this sooner!!). thanks!!
