Lightning Lane Question AK to HS

i've read up and watched a ton of videos on LLMP but I haven't seen an answer to this specific question. Hoping someone here can help me out! :)

We will be going to AK and HS next Saturday (7/5). I booked LLMP for AK as we want to be able to do everything within just a few hours in the morning. We will then be heading to HS for the rest of the day and evening. Our first LLMP at AK is at 8:15. While it might not be *needed* we plan to use it so I can secure a HS LLMP after. Since AK opens earlier, will it let me select a LLMP for HS before 9 (when HS opens)?

*My sisters don't do the safari or animal trails, so the only attraction we will possibly still need at AK is Kali, which I'm not sure we will even do. So I will prioritize booking for HS before using the 3rd for Kali if we decide we want to do that.

Also, I'm aware that I will need to work to get any good LLMP for HS, but I'm feeling pretty confident after watching a few videos about pinning, refreshing, and modifying lol, and we will be back another day. However, two members of our group will be gone so we are trying to maximize time on the 5th.

I guess I only have a logical answer not a definite one so maybe someone else knows but I would assume that you cannot make one for HS until the park actually opens.

Since you can prebook LLMPs days in advance and day-of, before park opening, I'm not sure I see any restrictions for booking at HS prior to 9AM day-of in your scenario. It's an interesting question, though. Seems like after you tap into your 8:15AM attraction at AK, you should be able to book any tier, any park at that point.

Have you considered flipping the parks and rope dropping HS and using LLMP there? And then hopping to AK later since people don’t always consider it a full day park it can be less busy later.

You can definitely book at DHS before the park opens (it's not like previous fastpasses/genie). We've done this many times.

That’s a great part of LLMP at AK. As soon as you tap into your first AK LL you can book LLs in any other park, even if that park isn’t open yet. Your whole party will need to enter the park and tap into the LL. After that you’re unlocked, no tiers, no park restrictions. If you want you can even change currently booked LLs to a different park.

Just to add to the great comments above, yes you are able to book a replacement LLMP at HS as soon as you tap into your first LLMP at AK.

You will not be able to select a return time for an attraction at HS before 9 AM but you will see valid return times for your choice of LLMP attraction(s), and you will be able to make your selection(s) before 9 AM even thought HS has no opened.

For example as soon as you tap in to your first LLMP at AK as early as 8:10 (5 minutes before your initial return time opens) then you are able to search at any park and select a replacement if you have a park hopper ticket.

We did an AK then DH split in Feb and an AK then Epcot split a couple of weeks ago. I was able to get the LLMP that I wanted for AK and we were out of there by noon-ish both times. But the available rides at the other two parks were limited. The most popular ones had only evening hours available. The only time I could get Remy was at 8:15 pm. We never got to ride Remy because of a huge thunderstorm in the area. But it was great for AK. We liked being able to ride the safari after 9am, when the animals are active.

In your case, since you don't really have a lot of rides you need to get a LLMP for at AK, I would just book rides at HS. You will have a better chance at getting the rides you really want at HS if you book them days ahead of time.

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I chose not to just book HS for a couple reasons. The budget was already stretched, but for my sanity on the trip I chose to pay for lightning lanes for three of the days all 5 of us are there. They are at peak prices since it's over the 4th holiday weekend. Doing AK saved a chunk of money I could use for a FOP LLSP. We also actually enjoy a few long line waits - we are all avid readers and bring our books/kindles with us - waiting in long line (a good ole fashioned wait) for a ride while finishing up our books is something we strangely look forward to :P. It has also cut down on our annoyances with each other and helps us use less of our phones. However, I hate waiting in the Navi River line and that was a must do for my sister, so it made sense to book it.

I've watched quite a few videos that show that it's possible to get some of the good rides even on the day of using the pinning/refreshing/modifying features. But even if we don't, we will be okay with it. The only attractions the 2 people who are leaving really care about at HS is Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railroad (even if we just have to queue for it) and seeing the new Little Mermaid show. Anything else will be a bonus. We also have a Roundup Rodeo reservation at 4:50, so that's why we didn't flip flop the parks. We prefer that meal for dinner.

I do appreciate you suggestion though and realize that in many situations it definitely would have made more sense to book straight away for HS!

I'm really grateful for all the fast help on this board! Makes it so much easier for me to set realistic expectations for my days :)

For future reference, Remy almost always releases additional same-day Lightening Lane options daily between 1:45 and 1:50. We would have snagged the 8:15 then refreshed for a few minutes starting at 1:45 to get a better time.
