Light cards for Fantasy???

I would say the opposite - Most cruisers do not bypass them as they think their actual KTTW is needed to operate the light switch.

We know better and get creative. Remember we are a small minority.

And I'm confident that those cruisers who do get creative are doing so only to avoid getting left in the dark or locked out. I know I have no intention of bypassing any wonderful energy saving features. I applaud them! :)

My first cruise I used an old library card to operate the lights because it was a pain getting my room key in and out of its lanyard. it worked and was very convenient.

For my 2nd cruise last March I made light cards for my FE group. On eBay I actually found WDW tinker bell key to the world blanks (eg had never been activated) that were very cute. I got some colorful clothes pins and glued a magnet to one side and a glow-in-the-dark star to the other (to find in the dark) You could just put the clothespin on the door and slip the key card in and out. I found it extremely helpful and will bring it with me next cruise.

I was pretty careful about turning lights off when we left the cabin. I did not want to waste energy, I just found using my room key to activate the lights rather inconvenient.

We use our Wegmans card (or other handy shopper card). On our recent Norwegian cruise (Breakaway), we were in the Haven, and they would just leave a key card in there for us. Guess energy savings didn't matter?

We use old cards from the Halloween and Christmas party used at WDW

Does anyone know if laminated business cards will work??

TIA

Just got back from the Fantasy.

The laminated business cards do NOT work. They are too flimsy to push the button in to activate the lights. Definitely need a plastic card.

We recently took B2B Fantasy cruises. We used a KTTW card from our resort pre-stay and just pulled it up out of the slot enough that the power went off when we left the room. We left it sitting in the slot, but not engaged - and the room steward never touched it. I can see where a magnet on the back might be nice, but we never needed it and never had any issues.

My DMIL and DFIL were in a room down the hall with a different room steward - and their room already had a card in the slot when they got there! As we were walking past a number of the rooms, it looked like some of the stewards left blank KTTW cards with an edge notched off in the lights. Either they were using them and leaving them there, or previous guests left them and the stewards never bothered to remove them.

our trips usually entail at least one nights stay at a hotel. I just use that card and don't bother packing one or using one of my credit cards (shudder).
I, as well, always leave it in the holder, just not pushed down, and have never had a cm remove it.
its all good.

so would making some of these cards for FE gifts be a good idea? I was thinking cardstock and magnet tape and Disney themed stickers or scrapbook paper to decorate them. Then laminate them.

We are saving all our hotel cards in anticipation of our next cruise. My DH travels internationally so it will be fun for my FE group to get them from places like Kazakhstan.

All it takes is one poor spouse left in a dark shower to convince anyone that no way am I using my KTTW card!

Yep - just attach a note saying what they are/ what they are used for!

What is the exact size of the cards?..I was thinking of making some for FE gifts but wanted to make sure they would fit...also will they be thick and sturdy enough if I use cards rock and laminate them?

I'm even more lazy than most people. I just pull the card out of the slot enough that it disengages the lights and don't bother sticking it on the wall. Then I just have to push it back down when I come back to the room. Easy as pie and makes it easy if I come back juggling a sleeping kid, bags from the shop, and a drink of the day!

some people even use old library cards. We have used old room cards rather than leave a cc hanging around (unless it's a cancelled account). I will say that sticking a magnet to it is a new idea that I want to try now.

i did it the easy way....we stayed at the Hyatt the night before our cruise, and I put my Hyatt card in there for the whole time. I did, however, turn the lights off when not using them. In fact, I'm pretty sure I left the Hyatt card in there when we disembarked. You don't need anything fancy, any credit card sized thing will work if it is heavy enough.

I DO understand the need for this as onour previous cruises, someone always got left in the bathroom in the dark, which isn't fun.

I don't understand the magnet part. I have plenty of old hotel door cards i could use, but doesn't adding a magnet to the back make it too thick to go into the slot? Also, the walls are magnetic??

Credit card size. Needs to be fairly stiff.

Yes...we received a few of these as FE gifts with an attached magnet to hang near the lights when we return to the cabin and they will go with us on our next cruise!

The walls are steel. I think the whole ship is steel. So magnets will stick to it.
The magnet is just at the top of the card. It does not interfere w/ the light mechanism. With the magnet glued to the back (at the top), you can pull the card out and stick it to the wall above the light thingy.
