I expensive.

We had a rep come to the house from Prudential last night and we signed up for $150 per month. I am thinking about it now and want to call him Monday and back out or lower how much coverage he said we needed.

My DH has about 150K in insurance already through his job and I have about the same through mine. We wanted enough to cover the entire mortgage, funeral, car payoff, and some cushion for the surviving spouse. I thought 150 additional would be cool, but the insurance guy said dh should get 400K because he makes more and me 250K. Because DH smokes his is like $108 a month for 20 year term! Mine is $68 month for 30 year term and he factured in my thyroid and out of the "average" weight they want.

Is this expensive or average

I don't know about this (not an adult) but my parents can't get life insurance because my dad has a type of cancer that will kill him sooner than he was supposed to die.

I don't know.....

Personally, if you don't have kids I'd stick to the 150 thousand.

Both my husband I purchased life insurance when I was about 38 and he was 40. He is in perfect health and got the "premium" level rating. So his policy is $25 per month (that is for $250,000). I had thyroid cancer when I was 31 years old. They did a thorough review of my medical records and determined I was an "okay" risk and gave me a $250,000 policy for $31.00 per month. We were also advised to get a lot more coverage but we felt we could not afford the monthly payment.

Sorry, I should have added that instead of putting all that money towards the insurance, maybe an IRA or add to your 401K if you have one.
