Life goes by so quick, I'm not ready for this.

Thats where she applied for the scholarship. They were awarding them there.

Yeah, they do take alot of pride in students who go above and beyond their school work.

Does your school have AP exams? Depending on how you score, I have heard, can also weigh your GPA, plus get you into an honors college and maybe even skipping things like english 101.

Yay for AP courses and getting credit! If all goes as plans I'll have 12 credit hours when I start college all thanks to AP classes. =)

LOL no I meant the scholarship funds. I'm going to apply for any and all of them that I can. Are there certain limits on the number of scholarships you can apply for?
Hahah I'll ask her about them tomorrow when I see her. And no there is no limit on the number. Most are going to be "private" scholarships meaning they aren't through the school. Even if they were through the school there is not a limit on the number you can apply for. There is a limiting amount you can receive though. Like you can't get more than tuition + books + extra fees. Basically, they can't pay you money...if that makes sense. And sometimes if you get certain scholarships they come with the condition that you have to drop all other school scholarships. Nearly all of those are scholarships that have a large amount of money attached to them. But not all huge scholarships say you have to drop all other school scholarships. The $40,000 one I am competing for allows me to keep any other scholarship I get even if I win the money, which is nice. =)

Thank God! What do you mean Lowes and Home Depot?
i just went to the website, and they offered scholarships. it was some bs essay, and i didn't get it, but i still applied. (i think it was geared towards people who worked there)

but when i say there's a scholarship for everything, i mean it. it may be 500 or 1000.00 but that will buy your books one semester, or pay one months rent, or buy you some groceries. every little bit helps.

Okay, I've got a few more questions.

ACTs? I'm kind of confused. Give me the low down. I'm going to my guidance counselor to talk about it in the morning. ACT isn't until Feb 6, SAT is not until March 13.
Would a knee replacement and significant hearing loss (40% gone in both ears, can't hear high pitches, require hearing aids) count on the financial aid part? (I can't think of the word I'm looking for right now! Scholarships, but there was something else too..)

You think your life is going by fast! I am APPLYING for colleges now :(
I still want to be that little girl who is care free riding on Dumbo in WDW.

I feel like life is slipping through my fingers :(

I am applying at the University of Central Florida, but I will most likely go to a community college for the first two years and transfer to Orlando and work as CM.

i think it would really depend on the disability you have. if you could look up the national foundation for your disability, i'm sure they offer scholarships.

i know my school does diversity and enrichment scholarships to students who are "different." usually essay scholarships. so i would look for things like that.

my school also has "disabled student services" which is an advocacy center for all sorts of physical and mental disabilities. i think they MAY offer a scholarship.

i'm sure you could find some, you just have to keep an eye out, and know where to look.

It's physical, so I hope whatever school I get into can help me somehow. There's a private college where I live that offers "student assistance" for people with physical disabilities, but it'll cost tons for me to go there. I'm hoping an essay scholarship will get me into some of the schools I'm interested in.

UCF rocks!

ACT, here we go. There are more dates than Feb. They just aren't held at your school, check the ACT website for the test dates. I took the spring break one (falls right around spring break) and the one that my state mandated (not a national test) two weeks after that one. There are 4 parts plus an optional writing (most schools want the writing so I'd take it): math, reading, grammar, and science. Each test is scored and then you get a composite (average of all scores). It out of 36. Any other questions?

It'll all depend on your score. ;)
Oh, I'm not worried about my scores. All I need is a 3. I've got those on my AP US History and AP Language and Composition from last year. And this year I've got AP Calc AB, AP Psych, AP Environment Science, and AP Studio Art (won't count). But like I said, everything just has to go right. =)

It depends on you, your test taking skills, and the test it self. The spring break one I took everyone thought was easy. I had nothing to compare it to but those who had taken it before said it was easy. I thought it was sort of easy because I was prepared for it. I took a prep class which basically just gave us testing skills and how to test for the test (how many questions you have to answer and how many you need to get right to get your score, it's kinda complicated). It's all dependent on you.

Yes!

I already took my ACT last December. I want to wait and take it again this coming summer.

I already have my two colleges narrowed down.

McNeese, which in is Lake Charles, La.
Northwestern, which is in Natchitoches, La. (where Steel Magnolia's was filmed)

I pretty much already know what I want to go into.

Psychology, ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis). I want to work with Autistic kids. I think they are the most amazing kids on the earth. I'd LOVE to be the one to help them show the world what they can accomplish! :)

I'm actually excited to go to college. I'm ready to live on my own. Live for me. I know I'm going to cry my eyes out the first few months though. lol

I mean, like, how hard is the ACT?

It really depends on your test taking skills and how much you know.

Myself, I thought the science part was HELL! I didn't understand one thing on it. I literally guessed on every one of the questions.

That's why I want to wait several months before I take it again.

Aw, Sonya! Are you excited? Seriously, college is the best thing I've ever done. I really can't find much bad to say about mine. I am thinking of transferring somewhere though, but I'm not sure. As much as I would LOVE to go out of state, the tuition just isn't practical for me. My parents are paying for everything, and I really can't be selfish and transfer OOS just because I feel like it.

As far as scholarships, I agree with Shelby. You should apply for as many as you can! I only applied for like one offered through my mom's office (government agency), but you really should.

Good luck!

is your votech college credit? if so, then you DEFINITELY need to take that into consideration and only apply at places that accept that school's credit. kwim? some colleges don't take certain credits from other colleges.

also, out of state tuition is at least doubled in state tuition.

and penn state is the number one party school in the us. ;)

UF is pretty high up on the party school list too(4 or 5?). The party scene over there is INSANE.

I am a freshmen in college now, and all I have to say is good luck. At least you are thinking ahead and not like some people I know who decided FEBRUARY of their SENIOR year to begin taking the SAT. Lets just say most of them ended up at a community college or working first time.

U-C-F KNIGHTS! I <3 UCF. I am in the Rosen College of Hospitality management there. If you have any questions about it let me know. BEST major ever!!!

Life does fly by pretty darn fast, but being prepared for those decisions and changes makes for smooth transactions. To the OP that is a positive I see in you. You are involved in your life and are really setting guidelines down that are going to help you in the long run make the correct choices. So yes it does goes fast, but really is it something to be scared about. I don't think so if you are prepared and really seeing out the decisions. It seems like you are well on your way to that. Good Luck.

I'm in a weird position looking at universities. I don't want to go to a university that isn't close to my house (cut down on costs if I stay at home) but most of the universities i've looked at for the subject I want to take are all too far away. There's only one close by that i'll go to the opening day for, but the website doesn't give much information. My other position is that I also want to go to a college in the USA, but it's the distance, and costs that are the trouble... But then i'm just choosing something like a university in Florida just so I can go to WDW when I have spare time, so it's not really a good enough reason really...

i just wanted to weigh in on this, as a former psych major (now social work)

i would start out with a general psych major for your undergrad, then do a graduate concentratiting on abnormal (autism, and all the other things you might come in contact with) and clinical. you would probably want to get licensed as a marriage and family therapist, since you plan to work with children.

another idea would be to become a special ed school psychologist, which is the same thing, but get licensed as a school psychologist and do graduate as an educational psychologist.

psychology is really like a pre med degree. usless without further education.
