Is there a thread with a bunch of peoples pictures of their LGMH's? I would love to see what some other people have done with theirs! I will be doing some for the first time tonight! If there isn't already a thread for it, let this be the start of one and post your pictures here!

Thanks!
Sarah

Thanks guys and thanks for the link specialks. There are some homemade ones of page 20 and 21. Do you know how long it too me to work out what LGMH meant :lmao:

Not to hijack but I'm wondering if an older member might give some LGMH history. You know, some background information for those of us who would like to be involved, but don't know how it got started, why green, what we do when we see another DISer and so on. I think it's a good place to start before pics get loaded. :goodvibes

The DIS started back in '97, and by 2000 there were quite a few people who had been on the DIS for several years and e-knew each other. The DIS was a lot smaller then and people seemed to talk more - kind of like our Disneyland community now. Well, around 2000 as the membership on the DIS continued to grow and more people wanted to recognize each other in the parks, someone came up with the idea to use colored ribbons to identify each other so that we would know a fellow DISer. Someone posted a poll with a bunch of different colors and I think we narrowed it down to orange and lime green. Lime green won out.

Back then, everyone would use different lime-green accessories - ribbons tied on backpacks, beads, bows in the hair. Someone on the DIS also had a type of online store where lime-green pens, antenna balls, flair buttons, t-shirts, etc., were sold and we bought them to use/wear in the parks (I don't think that store exists anymore). At our first DIS meet at Disneyland (back in 2000) Tink33 had made a bunch of small lanyards with beads that included limegreen beads. I still have mine - that and my DIS button that I always carry with me to the parks.

Then a few years ago, someone announced that Home Depot had Mickey head samples in their paint dept. and he/she got them to attach to something (backpack, door on their stateroom on a cruise, something...) and the idea spread to the other planning boards.

I think it's just as easy to make a Mickey head on your own computer, color it lime-green, and laminate that, as it is to take them from Home Depot. :) Whenever I am at Home Depot I always look though (the inner DISer in me), and out of all the colors they always seem to be out of Alien Green (which is the color a lot of DISers use), so I wonder who the other DISers are that live in my area. :lmao:

thank you for posting the history makes me want to make a LGMH for us when we are in DL in October.

I am trying out a LGMH in Shrinky-Dinks (my DDs have extra sheets I can liberate). I think it will survive longer on my park bag and I know DH doesn't want anything that screams DIS (he already thinks I'm on here too much). I have a template about 3.5 inches x 4 inches that I will trace, color with my lime-green Sharpie, and shrink.

If it turns out well I might even break down and learn how to post pictures here!

Thanks for the background info.

I have attempted to get them from Home Depot quite a few times and they are always out too. We just moved so I sort of feel like I lived there all summer and they never had them. Do you think this color has been discontinued or something?

AFAIK, the LGMH color (Alien Green) is still in stock. The Behr paint company (which supplies the Disney paint colors and the Mickey-head shaped swatches) exhibited at the D23 Expo and they had them in their display. I was able to get a couple of them when I asked.

I live in southwestern PA and have been able to get them at two different local Home Depot stores. Maybe there are a lot of DISer's in your area ... or maybe just one DISer with a serious LGMH addiction? :lmao:

Update on the Shrinky-Dink LGMH: shrunk down just fine, but the light-green turned darker as it squished together. So I have an Emerald Green Mickey Head. :rotfl: I'll give it to the girls for a necklace; they won't care.

I have lime-green paper, I think I'll just laminate a couple layers of that and call it good.

Wow! Thanks so much for the information. It's nice to know what I'm being a part of. I've already got my LGMH, and knew it was used to recognize other DISers, but I didn't know any background information. Awesome!

Okay, so it's not just me who has to look, even though I don't need any. :rotfl:

Interesting idea using shrinky dinks. Too bad it didn't turn out how you expected. Sounds like something that needs a little experimenting to figure out.

Here's my picture.

I had this on the back of all my shirts when we were at WDW back in July.

I can give you some info on what I did when I saw another DISer. I was sitting on a bench and saw her walk by with her LGMH on her backpack. So what do I say, "Hey are you on the DIS boards?" She turned around and I said that I had seen her LGMH and she said yes. We were so excited to see another DISer. Her hubby took our picture with our LGMHs and my MIL took our picture with my camera. We visited a tad bit, gave each other a hug and were on our way.
The next day in CA I saw another DISer and said the same thing to her. Yup! She was a DISer too and we took pics and visited a while too!
On a previous trip, another DISer saw my LGMH as we were on our way to a show in CA. She was from Washington and was there with a friend. Didn't get to talk long because we needed to catch up with others in our party.
Am looking forward to our October trip to see if there will be others that we will spot. Whatever you do, don't hesitate to ask if they are on the DIS boards, because you know they are. The conversation flows from there.:thumbsup2
