We occasionally hear rumors that Disney may build another campground, probably not likely anytime soon, but it might be fun to create one Virtually here on the DIS

So put on your imagineering ears and lets see what we can come up with, theming, transportation, accommodations, entertainment and shopping etc.

I think the Animal Kingdom area would be a great location to start with.

An Animal Kingdom location would be nice. The first thing they'd need is an upgraded pool(s). The next thing (IMHO) is figure out some method of people moving that does away with the buses and the golf carts. Yes, I'm a self-proclaimed golf cart hater and proud of it.

1.) Lotsa trees and space for little critters (bunnies, lizards, ducks, & tree-frogs...)
2.) Definitely keep the horse-barns! Wouldn't it be great (and keeping with the the frontier/western theme) for the new FW to host yearly traveling BLM mustang/burro adoptions???!!!
3.) A couple of rocking chairs on each of the cabins' decks
4.) Is there a lake near AK? FW just wouldn't be the same without the lake... and the MK fireworks reflected over the lake... hmm... this one's a toughie.
5.) Transportation -- what about an automated solar/electric reduced guage RR circling the resort?
6.) lots of cool walking trails. YEAH!
7.) No Peacock/chicken sites (kinda like real big netted enclosures around specific camp sites) and Lotsa peacocks, chickens, and guinea fowl for the rest of us!
8.) Maybe a real deli @ one of the stores
9.) Transplant ALL the things that currently make FW great! :goodvibes

Easy entrance lane for returnees without waiting for traffic in front to move. Internet cafe available at all hours. Come to think of it, this could easily be done WITHOUT rebuilding or relocating.

The two biggies for me:

Update and theme the pool.

For internal transporation, ditch the busses and provide the much-quieter trams. You could have a bus stop at either end of the campground to then go on to other WDW destinations, but boy would it quiet things down in the campground itself!!!

Bring back the swamp trail and the Steam Train. And the logo with Mickey and the musket.

This would be a SECOND campground / rv resort in addition to Fort Wilderness, In my opinion you could never replace Fort Widlerness.
I would love to see an alternate internal transportation system such as a tram or steam train.

Well since we're going for a campground in addition to FW, not a replacement, and since we're putting this near AK, how about theming the steam train like the one at AK? Give it more of a jungle/bush type theme.

First let me say that with the trend toward ever increasing sales of RVs and other camping equipment, it makes sense (dollars and cents too) for WDW to build another RV resort and campground. Good old FtW is getting harder to get reservations in expecially during the peak and holiday periods.

I kind of like the Animal Kingdom theming idea. Maybe make it a companion resort to AK Lodge just as Wilderness Lodge became a sort of companion to FtW.

However, how about something lacking almost everywhere on WDW property…an Egyptian themed resort. Perhaps we enter at the Sphinx for check in. The CMs are dressed the part with complete with Fez hats. Have the security CMs carry scimitars. Each campsite would be an Oasis complete with palm trees for shade. The comfort stations could be pyramids set in the center of each loop and could be similar to FtW with a laundry in the middle.

In the middle of the campground are some larger pyramids serving as stores and restaurant space. Maybe in the great pyramid a theater showing an Aladdin or Indiana Jones themed “hoop de doo” type of dinner show serving exotic Middle Eastern cuisine on the buffet along with the usual favorites. Heck why not some belly dancing too?

Instead of having horse riding, the new resort would offer camel rides. I would keep the golf carts. They sure beat the noisy busses anyday. Maybe theme them as well into little safari jeeps. Instead of busses, offer smaller & quieter trams.

Certainly a themed pool is the most needed amenity. Maybe have a long Nile River pool with large statues of Pharaohs serving as slides.

slightly larger comfort stations(including the laundry facilities) for those who don't have Rv's. The comfort stations should also have facilites/ stall/ room for Family use, such as Mom's who bring sons, someone who needs assistance with showers etc.

A classy RV Resort Campground with large pull-thru sites, built especially for RVs, even at higher prices than FW, would go over big and be a big money-maker for Disney.

Tiki huts in select sites would be cool. sites big enough for todays rv's and tow vehicles to actually fit on the site

I have wondered why the area across from FtW hasn't been used. Perhaps make it a futuristic themed RV resort with hi tech stuff everywhere. All the sites are pull thru. Maybe the campground could be built close enough to have a monorail station mid way between Epcot and TTC.

I can see it now. You have your reservations made and Disney mails you an express check in package which includes a transponder (like EZ-Pass) that you hang from the rear view mirror. When you arrive you go through a toll gate that scans you in and out so there is no need to stop at security each time. The device also talks to you and guides you to your site. I can hear Mickey now. "Hi campers! Welcome to Mickey's Modern Marvels RV Resort. We have your campsite all set for you. As you pass through the gates, bear left onto Mission Space Way. GREAT! Now just a few feet past the space shuttle simulator, make a right onto Pluto Boulevard. Your campsite will be the third on the left and will magically light up as you get near. Keep you arms and legs inside the RV until we come to a full stop. Have a magical day campers. So long"

Since the CG would be WiFi of course, you could use your computer to log in to a daily events calendar, order food delivered to your site, shop for souvenirs online, etc. Your computer would also be tied into the theme park gates for you to find guest volume instantly and choose a park with shorter lines. Your must see attractions with long lines would offer you the option of an instant fastpass that could be printed out from your computer. This way you can relax a bit longer your campsite and wait for your fastpass time.

It will never happen.

Disney treats campers like "red-headed stepchildren" !!!!!

I'm with you YorkieMon. I have been camping at FW for years. They spend very little money to keep it going, but make a lot from it. Just look at comfort stations most are the same as they were in 1970. FW needs updates but they are slow coming. I would love to see a new FW one I people with large RV's can get into ease. But I’m not holding my breath. I still go to FW, but I’m finding the times I go are become less and less. I hope one day Disney will get it and stop suckling off the teet of the campers and ether build a new campground or update this one. :confused3

Sounds good to me. Build a NEW CAMPGROUND for the big rvs and those who need all the doo dads for the now RVr and put FW back to the way it was for us folk who just want a nice natural campground with no golf carts and a steam train and bicycles and walking and fishing and paddling a canoe in open canals and furry and feathery creatures and a swimmin hole and....

I agree that a new campground would be nice. I just wouldn't want Disney to be upset with everybody complaining about the pools and the sites not being big enough. We have the time of our life at the Fort and I really don't need anything else to make it better. If they would build a new one it would cost more and we would still be at the Fort because it is such a great deal for our family. It doesn't matter what Disney does (as long as they keep the Fort) because it is always great to see our family having such a good time when we get to go to anything Disney.

i kind of like the space age futuristic theme, :wizard: instead of camping loops you could have galaxies, maybe hoverboards or segways for transportation :teeth:

I totally agree with the "upgrade the comfort station" comments! This has been my biggest disappointment with the Fort. 3 non-handicapped and 1 handicapped shower stall is just not big enough for 1 or 2 loops with 40+ sites per loop! I waited through 2 families this morning (almost an hour) until I could get a shower - and this was after park opening. We belong to Outdoor World and the campgrounds we have stayed at have at least 7 or 8 showers per station, for significantly fewer sites.

The site "roads" could be wider, too, to accommodate those of us with less driving experience and/or who have somewhat larger rigs. (we fall into the first category - was a little hairy getting around and into our site the first night).

Maybe a CS restaurant?

I am with Dirtslinger. FtW is Disney to us. Over the past several weeks, I have been trying to get a site during President's Week when my DS is off school for winter break. Nothing doing. Each time I call its booked. Plenty of room in the value resorts, but DS refuses to go if its not at FtW. He loves to ride his bike around the loops. Its like he is at home. Dirtslinger is right. A better pool and bigger sites would be nice, but we would also prefer FtW.
