Let's Talk Remodeling

Yep, That's how it starts, change one thing & it just snowballs! That is looking great, love the backsplash! :thumbsup2

I LOVE the backsplash too. Thanks. When I saw it at the store, I had to have it. After I put it up behind the stove, I decided I 'needed' to have the same thing behind the sink. I had JUST put tile up back there.... But, a hammer and chisel took care of the tile and now that whole wall has the 'tin' backsplash too!! :lmao:
Maybe this weekend we will get the rest of the counter tops in and the wall build to divide the kitchen/ laundry area.

Everyone's places look so nice.

crz4mm2, love the tin backsplash! Having trouble seeing exactly what color it is.

Our glass guy is coming today to do an actual template (sp?) before he can make the custom glass doors.
So hopefully it won't be too awfully long before our glass shower doors are in. (or will it?)

I realize I never posted any pics of our new kitchen or bedroom. Maybe if I get motivated I'll post some.

Ranatra, Our custom shower door with the custom etching only took about a week. So here's hoping! Pleeeze... We NEED pictures!!!! :goodvibes

here is what came out of that cupboard and ther drawers there was nothing on my counters or floor when I started.
I was so grossed out!

Its all gone now of course and put where it belongs but I could not believe how much was in there. My counters and floor are back to being clean.

Holy Cow! You did good Binny! :thumbsup2 I'm impressed...and now motivated as well.

Anyone here really good with colors & decorating? I am having a heck of a time trying to pick out new stuff for the bedroom!

Here's the pic again:

I pretty much like the look & "feel" of the room now. It's calming & soothing. Is that because of the mostly monotone palette? I really like the curtains but now they look short now with the light molding. I'm thinking of keeping them & pulling them back & getting some silk curtains in the middle. (where you would normally have sheers) In either a bronze or amber gold color. Would that work?

And I like the color of the comforter, but the comforter is too short for the length of the bed. A lot of what I'm seeing in the colors I like are pretty bold. Maroon, golds, bronze, taupes. So I'm trying to find something in tone on tone gold or bronze. Am I off base here? Should I go bolder with the bed colors?

Shovan, I have your comforter set, or at least one like it.

I went with a gold/chocolate/dark blue pallette in there.

I found a pillow at Pier one that I loved, but didnt buy because Im cheap and it was $35 for a little pillow  That would go really well because you have the dark woods in there. I have chocolate curtains and then a blue recliner and a beige recliner. I bought a chocolate coloured pillow at Big Lots for $2.50 and have a lot of blue accents.

Would that work for you?

Its demo weekend here. the cabinets are coming down and that corner should be done by Sunday :)

I am going to try to get the nook done this coming week.

Well now you sound like me. The prices of all those cute pillows is just crazy isn't it! It has sent me hunting at Tuesday Morning, Big Lots & today I've spent the whole day searching E-bay! That combined with closet organizing stuff, the cost is just crazy!

That sounds pretty! So, do you have a similar paint scheme in your bedroom? I'd love to see a pic! Has that already been posted?

I'll have to go take a look at the lamp I have in there & see if there is any blue in it. It is definitely staying because it's an antique that was left to me along with the bedroom furniture.

Good luck with all the work this weekend! Hope it all goes smoothly.:goodvibes

that is my master bedroom. :) I dont have any current pictures up. Its a disaster in there right now, like the rest of the house. :scared1:

This was what it looked like with the old bedspread and lamps. The wallpaper is kind of a marble look, it doesnt look bad from afar but when you see where the previous people left a bunch of big holes its bad.

Well I ripped out the backsplash and took half the drywall of with it :rolleyes1 well it was only the drywall under the backsplash but now I have to go buy those tin look tiles tomorrow.

Thanks! I have a problem with picking colors. This is the 2nd time I've wanted something that's "in between" two other colors. My contractor is stuck on using Sherwin Williams & I couldn't find the color that was just right in their swatches. This one was a custom color in between Blonde #6128 and Restrained Gold #6129 in flat latex.

Ahhh Haaa! Restrained Gold is the color used in my dream kitchen. Hopefully this link will work:

My kitchen is no where near this big, but I love the colors!

I looked at the color on that kitchen and thought it looked alot like what I just painted our hall bath. We just painted most of our house in Behr Warm Muffin. We had a gallon and a half left. I had a half gallon left of Medici Ivory from another project. I decided to see if I would put the 2 half gallons together if I would just get a nice lighter version of my Warm Muffin. Apparently I got what looks like Restrained Gold. Who knew???:lmao:

We save alot of money going to a place called "Restore." People in the community bring new and used things and the money that is raised goes to build homes for the poor. Many things are left overs from contractors. We got brand new counter tops, beautiful light fixtures, a Kohler kitchen sink that was in perfect condition. Dry wall, fixtures, doors. We have saved a crazy amount and it feels good too because we are helping our community.

Thats a wonderful idea. Wish other parts of the country did something like this.

We have a Habitat store here. You can often buy things that others have donated as well as stores and builders. Its a pretty cool thing :)

its just getting started but I have been to their "garage sales" before.

check with your local habitat and see if they have one available in your area.

There are also construction salvage stores in some areas. Builders and others often take in extras and sell things there.

Ok desk is GONE

I am really sore but it will all be worthwhile. It look better already! I have to patch the floor of course but then it should be good to go!

Awesome, binny! It looks better already. Love the Slainte sign.:thumbsup2

We had this old, chipped up, white planning desk in our last house in the kitchen. Above it was some sort of weird display cabinet. Both were nothing but an eyesore and a clutter center. We weren't sure if we were going to be transferred to another part of the state, so we never committed to doing a light remodel of the kitchen. When we finally heard we weren't getting transferred, that very night we celebrated by ripping that desk and wall cabinet out. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: We had a great time. We really know how to party.

Of course, the floor wasn't finished underneath the desk and there was a big hole in the wall behind the cabinet. :sad2: That night of demolition led to having to reroute electric wires, a whole new floor, a new kitchen island, etc. Another towel bar project, but boy did that kitchen do a turn around in looks. And to top it off, we did get transferred after all! :rotfl:

Good luck, binny. What are you going to put in the new space?

omgosh there was a lot to do in that house, eh? One thing always seems to lead to another, right?

This is definately a light remodel. For now that is the end of my demo. It was fun though ;) I have no more stress left in me lol

After I finish patching and painting that space, I have an island that is going in its place that is cream coloured with a butcher block top. It was left in my mums house so I brought it over here. Its going to be more of a work centre for me. My old pot rack from the old house is getting a copper coat of paint and then will go above the work centre. Its one that hangs on the wall so hopefully that will look nice.

I just talked to an electrician freind of mine and he is going to come and see about replacing our horrible flourecent lighting with some canned lights. Hopefully that will stop everything from looking so washed out.

So hopefully the breakfast nook will be done this week sometime. I dont know when the countertops will be done though.

Has anyone ever tried to paint their countertops? It sounds so weird but I saw it in a "this old house" book that I found. They faux painted then sealed it with marine sealant. It looked cool in the book but it seems so strange to me. Oh well.

I have to find a cheap way to update them I have thought about tile but would rather do a flat lay laminate, laminate sheets just glued over the top iof what I have now. That we could do for a couple of hundred dollars. I dont know if I can find tile that cheap or if it would be easier. I am so torn LOL

oh and the Slainte sign, thanks me too. I just picked up the letters at the craft store and painted them that colour. My Bunco group thinks I just bought whatever letters were on sale and threw them up there. :rotfl2:

ColoradoMom, That is a pretty kitchen! I've had so much trouble picking out paint color's. The light in each room, really has an effect on paint. I spent the money for the Sherwin Williams samples for both the den & the bedroom. In my den I ended up asking them to blend two color too. Harvester & Torchlight. Torchlight was too dark & Harvester looked greenish in that room. So even though you feel sure Restrained Gold is the color you want, I'd definitely recommend trying the samples in the room that you are doing.

Here's a pic of that blend:

Binny, You must be hurting this morning! The kitchen is going to look so good when you're done though! Thanks for putting up the bedroom pic too. I love that crown molding you have in there! Dd you mix the dark blue (like the chair)with the chocolate or the lighter one on the lamps? or both?
