Let's Talk Remodeling

Hi everybody! I just wanted to pop in and let everyone know that I still have a butt-ugly master bathroom, but we are putting in a swimming pool.

I figured if the bathroom continues to disgust me, I'll just bathe in the pool.

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: I think I would take the pool over the bath!! I like the plans too. I would give anything for a palm tree in my yard. Our temps in St. Louis get just cold enough to not allow them. (I checked).;)

We are still going to update both our bathrooms but for now paint will have to do. DH is back to working on the basement again a bit. He has a new grand plan that has been scaled down to allow more storage. Yea!!! We would still have a 14X16 family room and the excercise area will now be behind closed doors with a bigger storage area that is finished. We will still get a bar and gameroom area. He is kinda pumped up on getting this going again. Basically half the basement will be finished so we will add on about 700sq ft.:thumbsup2 I'm sure I will have some good stories as DH and I will be doing most of the work ourselves. We are getting someone to do the electric and the drywall and taping but the rest will be up to us.:scared:

ok DP but does anyone want to alk about demo injuries.

:scared1:

I have decided that I am a klutz. I thought I broke my thumb when i was demo-ing the desk. Now changing out the light covers I sliced my finger open *ouch*! Now I know what I DONT want to be when I grow up! :rotfl:

I have to be very sneaky when I try to touch ANY tools, implements of destruction or not. I too am a klutz and DW doesn't let me near saws........

AMITY, Now you have me jealous!!!

We have a pool in our yard, that is about 26 years old! In serious need of remodeling. Right before we started the bathroom, we had pool guys come out to give us prices of updating the pool!

 :scared1: $20,000 for the most basic updating, $30,000 to $35,000 for installing the stuff we really want, a hot tub area, some type of water/fall feature.

:scared1:

Wow! We're paying under $40k for ours and it's new! Coincidentally, I went and looked at the designer's pool yesterday. Her pool is eight years old and the company that is installing mine, remodeled hers. It looks very nice!

Prices that are being advertised for new pools are around $30k. We'd probably be better off if we were starting from scratch!

Binny, Please be careful! If I were you I'd stay away from all tools & sharp objects for a while!!!

Here's the wall, painted, with the new counter sitting (well, part of it).

We are putting the rest of the counter top in today.

AMITY, Your yard is gorgeous!! I can't wait to see what it looks like after your pool is in!!

I'm getting excited to finish our back patio and landscaping this spring. As hard as DH worked, we did not get it all done last year. We still have to lay the flagstone down on the patio, terrace the left side of the yard, and rebuild the waterfall.

Here's some before photos:

your yard is beautiful!! How big is your pond?

Kitchen is done - except for a few small touch-ups and a new fridge.

Here are the cabinets and walls. I'll take some pictures of the new floor later.

It's about 7'x8'. It's the left area behind the pond that we need to finish this spring.

Starwood, your kitchen looks great!! Have you chosen the new hardware for the cabinets? (I just had to choose hardware for our bathroom cabinets and couldn't believe how expensive some of that stuff was.)

I'm not going to put hardware on. I have the finger pulls. It makes cleaning them so easy - all I have to do is spray and wipe down.

And you know what? The only place my new cabinets doors get a little grimy or sticky is right around the handles!!!
So as far as cleaning goes, it's a smart move!

WOW, lots of great work going on!

crz4mm2, Your kitchen is looking good!

Starwood, That's looks great!

Ranatra, I'm in awe of your yard! Beautiful, I love the stone!

Ok I posted another topic about it but here is what the after look like of the kitchen nook.

I had a friend cut some plywood for me and I tore apart the old seat cushions. I added new fabric and stapled it onto the boards, I painted the nook, painted new hardware, and most importantly sewed the curtains!! Another friend helped me figure out how to do the sewing but I did the rest of it myself ( I have never sewn before!)

Whew!

Ok here is the before...

Ranatra, your backyard is beautiful. It's so flat here in my part of Texas. I'd love to have some sort of slope to our yard, just to landscape it!

Starwood, love those cabinets!

Congratulations! And I love that palm!

The owner of the pool company came out yesterday to give us a quote on a pergola and he told us that palm is worth around $5k! I almost died! I came thisclose to giving that thing away!
