Duh. I had to go back and look at the picture and what do you know! I saw two can lights!

$200 a pop??? Yowch! I could easily have six to eight installed in my bathroom!

Cha-ching, cha-ching, cha-ching!!!!!

But our prices here have been considerably higher than what you're getting, so maybe you can still check into those for the bathroom.

It'll probably have to wait until I'm back from WDW since I leave on Thursday.

DH & I jokingly talked about doing WDW while the bathroom is being renovated. Unfortunately, The way things are going, it looks like it just might work out, with our work not getting going until October.

DH & I jokingly talked about doing WDW while the bathroom is being renovated. Unfortunately, The way things are going, it looks like it just might work out, with our work not getting going until October.

I might actually have to do that. I only have 1 1/2 bathroom so if I redo the bathroom I'd probably have to rent a local hotel room to get a shower each day. So I might as well head off to WDW...

A friend came over so I had him pop the new bulbs into the light. Now instead of 50% of the previous lighting I'm up to about 70%. So going from frosted 40 watts to clear 60 watts is still not bright enough.

I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of the ceiling fan in my kitchen and going with just a bright light fixture. If I can find one bright enough.

You can see part of the box in the upper left-hand portion of this picture. Just be careful when looking at it, you don't fall in love with my beautiful bathroom.

We have the same cabinets, the same countertop, the same faucet, and the same surround on the bathtub.

Get this...I even have that same solid surface - and I say solid surface because I don't know what the heck that stuff is - in our shower stall. (What is that stuff called, by the way?)

Back to the florescent light...omg, I look like something from a horror movie when I'm under a florescent. I bet you can't wait until that thing comes crashing down.

Years ago, we were standing in the paint department of Home Depot arguing over a color for our family room. We were going back and forth, and back and forth, and the poor paint guy was just standing there. It turned into those classic Home Depot husband/wife moments. It had gotten bad enough that I looked at the guy and said "you know, picking a color to agree on is so hard you should just have a stack of divorce papers here at the counter ready to sign." I was kidding, but the poor guy looked scared.

Well, I was sort of kidding....

First, please let me extend my sympathies!

I think the beautiful cabinets are water-damaged MDF. They're beyond ugly and impossible to clean. The countertop is chipped marble and the ugly stuff in the shower, is your basic shiny 4"x4" ceramic tile. And, last but not least, the tub surround has a hair dye stain going down the side of it, courtesy of my 17 year old daughter.

Needless to say, it's lovely and it'll break my heart to see it go.

It's just me picking colors since I'm single and I could probably start a war with myself over color choices. I just can't make up my mind.

I wnet over to Lowes today during lunch to pick up a couple of things and I looked at the lighting there. I'm really starting to lean toward the florescent lighting. I know you guys can't wait to get rid of it but it looks to me like it's the only single light fixture out there that actually lights up a room. If I stick with what I have I'll have to add another 2-3 lights so I can see in my kitchen.

You've go to love the way the florescent light bounces off the cellulite.

Luckily I never had to deal with paint issues, we are usually on agreement with colors. We did have a mirror issue though.

I have florescent light in the kitchen. I don't love the color it casts, but I love how much light it throws. I've tried different light bulbs. Can't find a color I like. So we have "kitchen & bath" bulbs. They cast a yellowish light. I guess if you factor that yellowish color into your color scheme, its not as bad. It doesn't look as bad on my oak cabinets as I guess it would look if we had white cabinets.

But it does turn that green/blue paint we currently have more green when the light is one.

Its one reason I may be going with paint more in the yellow / gold family when I get around to deciding. I'll do that after the Silestone goes in on Thursday.

I wasn't referring to your shower tile when I said "what is that stuff anyway?" I'd never say that to anyone!! I don't want to offend you! I was referring to my description of my shower stall!!

My shower is made out of the same material that the tub is made out of....I have no clue what material it is. It's some sort of solid (cheap) surface material. Our tub is seamless. If I ever redo the bathroom, I'd have to pull out this stuff and I guess, buy a new tub since there surround and the tub is all in one. At least your shower has real tile! I don't know what kind of material it is...some sort of fiberglass/corian type stuff. In the shower, it doesn't look like your typical bath fiberglass surround, it almost have a marble-y, corian feel to it.

Here's a question, when you redo your bathroom and put your new tub in there, do you have to add extra flooring support for the new tub and the granite surround? I think we'd have to. The stuff that's there now doesn't look like it's heavy stuff and I have to wonder whether the current construction can support a heavier design.

I know you guys can't wait to get rid of it but it looks to me like it's the only single light fixture out there that actually lights up a room. If I stick with what I have I'll have to add another 2-3 lights so I can see in my kitchen.

We had a florescent light in our last house's laundry room and man, can those throw light! I understand, I really do. It's going to be hard to replace that kind of brightness. The only way I've seen it done is if there are a ton of can lights in the room. Is that an option?

Bill, We are going to have some serious problems when the shower gets ripped out! My DH is in a WC & to even get him in our other bathroom both bathroom doors will have to come off. Then we'll be dealing with a bathtub, so it'll be work! The one we are getting ready to redo is a shower but it has a 2 inch "step" into the shower & it's small so the manuvering (sp) in there is tough. But it's going to be a lot worse struggling with the other one while the work is being done! So WDW trip during the work might just save our sanity!!

That's exactly what I'm struggling with in the kitchen. It takes a lot more incandescent light to equal the same wattage of the flourescents! Could you get someone to put in some recessed can lights in there for a decent price? Those would look great with that fan! But of course then there's the cost of the fan plus the cost of extra lights! Are you sorry you started all of this remodeling baloney now?

I could get some can lights but then I'd be going from 2 60 watt bulbs doing a fine job of lighting my kitchen to 4 60 watt plus another 4-6 60? watt can lights. I'm not an ECO freak type of guy but using 4-5 times as much energy to get the same amount of light sounds crazy to me. Plus paying to have the electrician install the lights. Overall it makes more sense for me to find a good looking florescent light or maybe a 2-3 100 watt incadecent light fixture. The florescent would be better on my electic bill but the 3 100 watt incandescent fixture would probably give off a warmer light.

I like the second one better but I'm afraid of buying it and then finding out it's still not enough light. Really though 3 100 watt bulbs should really lighten my space up.

I thought you thought that my shower stall was solid surface! It's tile, but it's still ugly! You didn't offend me at all! Now, call my dog ugly and that's another story.

I know exactly what you're referring to, but I don't know what it is. At least if you ever decide to get rid of it, it'll all come out in one big piece (okay maybe several, but it'll be large). We have to remove all that tile, plus all the floor tile.

Our current tub sits on the slab. If we have to reinforce that, I have bigger troubles than just that. It's holding my whole house up!

Bill, either one of those are nice! When I think of florescent lights, I think of those plastic covered boxes that hold those long light bulbs. I think I need to get out more.

No, that would be a reason to go into debt! I'd be replacing lights in my whole house, at the mall, at my mom's house... the list just goes on and on!

Yea it's a little too light and airy looking for me. I prefer the solid iron look. But I agree florescent sure has changed.

I'm looking for something that can go into the pre-wired normal light opening I have in my ceiling. Those long boxes would require more work then I want to worry about.

Right now I have this in my dining room, but mine is only a 3 lighter. The dining room originally was seperate from the kitchen but now will have a 5 foot wide opening between them so it would be nice to get something that goes with this.
