Let's talk NHL PLAYOFFS!!!

Like I said, no consistency. Phillips elbowed Callahan in the head, where is his suspension? And Shea Weber's? I guess you have to injure someone? It doesn't matter if intent is there - if they're not injured, no suspension! It's BS. My point is the hits should be treated the same no matter what happens. It's a shame as Brendan Shanahan used to be one of my favorite players. He's a joke in his new roll.

I can't believe Dubinsky was ejected from that game although his Gatorade tossing made me laugh. I'm surprised he didn't get suspended for injuring the Gatorade jug.

lol That's been my favorite so far. We got the players fighting and being kicked out, we got the coaches yelling at eachother and then this Hulk Hogan wanna be yelling at the Flyers bench! popcorn::

I think I speak for MOST of Chicago when I say that a 3 game suspension for Andrew Shaw is LUDICROUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess instead of bumping into the goalie, he should have jammed his face into the glass

Will the Hawks be OK without the rookie? sure, but the inconsistency of punishment by the NHL has been insane during the playoffs. They set a terrible example by only giving Shea a miniscule fine and no suspension and now this (as well as some of the other recent punishments).

Unlike Mr Shaw, I am going to go put on my Blackhawks sweater and head into the city for tonight's game at the Madhouse...

I TOTALLY agree. 3 games is ridiculous. He was trying to squeeze between Smith and the boards it wasn't even a hit. Sure, he could have tried a tad harder not to hit him but there was barely any room.
Paired with Smith diving which is clear on the tape I thought he get away with nothing.

If Shaw got three games I except Neal to get 5+. OH WAIT the NHL doesn't suspend star players :sad2:

This is the worst year of officiating in recent memory for sure. The Avs had the least powerplay time in the entire league by over three games worth of time (aka Columbus had over three games of powerplay time more than us at second least powerplay time). But we're not in the playoffs so I'll refrain from continuing with that

Shanahan has reached a level of hate in one year that took Campbell several years to achieve. He needs to go or he needs to stop taking injuries into consideration. I've seen BRUTAL hits where the victim walks away unscathed while some harmless looking elbows result in concussions. Judge the act not the result

BRUTAL hit on Marion Hossa of the Blackhawks tonight and NO CALL in the game. He left the ice on a stretcher after the blindsided hit. If Shaw's hit was a 3 game suspension then this should be, at least, 5.:confused3

Look what just happened to Marian Hossa. He's taken off the ice on a stretcher when Torres leaves the ice to hit him in the head and the Hawks get the penalty.

Let's just pray that Hossa isn't paralyzed from the hit. :worried:

At least the Hawks score first!

Looked HORRIBLE! I hope the guy will be ok. They said it was very serious. Police escort all the way to the hospital and they locked all the press up in the press room not letting them in the hallway until he was gone.

Yeah I saw that! Was watching Preds/Wings and during a stoppage they showed it. BRUTAL hit. And after all that the Blackhawks had a penalty to kill, not the Yotes!

Did you see Quennville's on-bench interview?! He seemed PISSSSED. Rightfully so.

I hope Hossa is okay. Met him at the mall once. He tried to ignore me at first when I shouted his name...but can you blame him? :lmao:

4 games for Asham seems about right. Basically, if the Pens happen to come back, he won't play the Flyers again. Or it's a meaningless suspension. What I didn't like most about Asham's act was the punch after.

Any word yet on what Neal got?

Neal got ONLY a 1 game suspension! :confused3

Haha I just saw that and posted before I refreshed. Oh well, Pitts probably won't last more than one game.

If anything, star players should get WORSE suspensions because they're faces of the NHL. Looks bad if the star players are playing like dirtbags.

Dave Ennet (the sports director at WGN radio-Hawks broadcast station) is speculating this morning that Torres will be suspended possibly for the rest of the playoffs.

They said that Hossa was released from Northwestern Hospital last night but is being monitored by team doctors at home.

The sad thing is that Torres shows no remorse and called the it a "Hockey Play" :sad2:

We were at last night's game, our seats next to the tunnel where Hossa came through. His fingers were moving, so at the time, we knew he wasn't paralyzed, but it was TERRIBLE being in the stands, not knowing any updates until people started posting what the announcers were saying on Facebook!!

I can't even believe there was NO call and that Phoenix ended up on a flipping power play instead for the Bollig retailiation:eek: (For those who aren't familiar to our team, Bollig is a brand new player to our team, brought up after we traded our other fighter away. He is NEVER one to shy from a fight!!) In watching the replays last night after we got home, there is a linesman RIGHT NEXT TO THE HIT, who clearly saw it, and still did nothing :confused3 Of course our coach was livid at the "no call."

The even sadder thing is that our team has a history of cheap shots with this guy. He took out one of our star defenders (Brent Seabrook) when he played with the Sedin Sisters in Vancouver. NO SUSPENSION and Seabrook was out for awhile.

After the ludicrous suspension for Shaw for a "real" hockey play against Smith, then the no call after one of our stars is carted from the game by a chronic cheapshot master, if he isn't suspended for AT LEAST 5 games for leaving his feet, then I think we know the fix is in by the NHL, since they own the Phoenix Coyotes....:rolleyes1

And, one more tasty nugget, the commissioner was AT the game last night with that terrible one sided playcalling.......

(Wow  That was ALOT of anger from me for 8am!!)

I haven't been paying much attention to their series because I hate both teams. I'm glad the Flyers are kicking their butts though. I hate Crosby's smug little face. :rolleyes1

Poor Hossa. I can't believe the Hawks had to kill a penalty after that! I met Hossa's brother Marcel when he played for the Rangers. After the lockout they had a Thank You jersey ceremony and I was lucky enough to be part of it. His was the jersey I got.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhFCfEgzObo You can't see me but they show a closeup of an older guy in the beginning. I'm on his left! That's my sleeve! LOL

Raffi Torres is scum. He should be suspended for the remainder of the playoffs considering this isn't the first time he's pulled something like this.

Sweet justice!! Rafi Torres suspended indefinitely! Finally the league got something right! Now back to SKILLED hockey...

Wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall at his "in person" hearing on Friday. I can only imagine what he will have to say.

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/04...efinitely-will-have-in-person-hearing-friday/

"Torres will have an in-person hearing with the NHL Friday in New York, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announce Wednesday.

The hearing was originally planned for today, but it was deferred at the request of Torres and NHL Players’ Association."

Mr. Shannahan:

Congratulations are in order. In 1 genius move after another, made in vain (both fruitless and for vanity), to differentiate yourself from your predecessor Campbell, you have put players' careers and health at stake. Every transgression that has occurred since April 11th is a direct result of you announcing before the playoffs that you will be LESS LIKELY to hand out suspensions in the playoffs. What did you think would happen? And then you compound the issue with the 1st offense that crosses your desk. With the Shea Weber incident, you gave him less than a slap on the wrist and more like a kiss on the cheek.

That has set the tone for these playoffs. I am 1 of the biggest proponents of hard fought, physical, gritty hockey. But there is a line between physical and cheap. And you sir, moved it back too far and are just now trying to rectify it. Unless you are willing to hand down punishments to head-liners and stars, you are just re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. You need to be willing to do a post-game review of the remaining games in the 1st round. Hand out supplemental discipline and warnings as needed. You need to hold your refs' feet to the flames in regards to the way they call their games. A penalty in the 1st period is a penalty in the 3rd period. A penalty to a 1st line center is a penalty to a 3rd pair D-man.

Every series is up in the air right now, and every player can either smell the next round or has their back against the wall. It is your job that they accord themselves. Please do your job sir.

Thank you.

Signed,

BDL, a life-long NHL fan

ADDENDUM:

Apperently, I'm not the only one who mocks the job Shannahan is doing. The audio of this was played this morning on the Gresh & Zo show on 98.5 the Sports Hub.
