Let's talk kids teeth! - UPDATED on page 2

My daughter will be 7 years old in August and she hasn't lost a tooth yet. We kept checking and checking and those teeth are solid stuck in her head! Kids in my younger daughters class are starting to loose teeth, she just turned 5 and her teeth are solid stuck in her head which is no problem, she's still young. But it's funny to see Julia's classmates losing teeth when my daughter who is 2 grades higher doesn't have any loose teeth.

So what is the average age for loosing teeth? Anyone else have kids that lost theirs later on? Is it normal? Thanks guys.

Any where from 5-8 is normal, sometimes even a little later.

All three of my sons lost their first tooth late. I remember well how much my middle child wanted to lose one b/c he was the only kid in his class who hadn't yet. They cut their teeth late, too, and there is a correlation.

My youngest son has two loose teeth right now, and he'll be 12 in June!

My kids were also late losers (3rd grade). But, that didn't surprise me b/c they were late cutting their first teeth. (15 mos for DS, 14 mos for DD.)

If it's any consolation, my pediatrician said late teeth (cutting and losing) usually mean a late puberty. That's fine with me. The less hormones around here, the better.

BTW, both my kids were born in August, too. Maybe that's the cause. (JK)

I guess my DD is an early teeth looser. She just turned 6 a month ago and has lost 6 teeth already. The toothfairy is going broke. I wouldnt worry about her not losing them yet. She'll be toothless before you know it.

My youngest didn't lose his first tooth until he was in second grade. He is 11 now and has only lost 8 teeth so far. Our oldest lost his last babytooth this past summer right before he turned 13. DD still has many teeth to lose. The twins were over a year old before they got any teeth and DS13 was about 9-10 months old when he got his first.

Wow, so she could go another year or two without losing any teeth! Wonder how teeth decide when they want to come out? LOL

I am so glad to hear about the late puberty! But DS won't be, I'm sure. DS was a late teether (10 months for his first), and a late "loser" too. He has now lost his four front on top, three front on bottom and one molar. He's 11 and lost one of the 3 bottom front and the molar just before he turned.

DS 2 teethed late also, but not as late as the first one.........I think his first was at 8 months.

My oldest lost his first tooth a few months ago. He was about 6 years 9 months. He turned 7 yesterday and has two more that are loose but are very stubborn. He kept asking me w hen he was going to loose his teeth because all the kids in his class already had. He cut his teeth at on schedule.

My son is six and has not lost a tooth yet. This is a very big deal for him because a lot of his friends have lost one. They have a monthly tooth tally in his class and he is so desperate to be on it that he started to try to loosen his teeth on his own.

DD20 and DS6 were "regular" tooth losers.....around 5 - 6.

DS17 was late to get his baby teeth.....I think 10 months...and very late to get permanent teeth...3rd grade! He had huge teeth, though, had to get several pulled and finally got his braces off yesterday!

There is a correlation between cutting and loosing.

DD just turned 7 in January and yesterday lost her 8th tooth... She also had her first tooth at 4 months old.

Both my daughters got their first teeth right on schedule... my older dd has had a dead tooth since she was 3, her front top right one but the dentist said it was fine as long as it didn't absess. And she has a wicked space between her front 2 teeth so i'm hoping when she FINALLY loses them that they will come in a little more together but i'm seeing braces on her in the future.

It is related to when they get their first tooth. My 2 girls got theirs at 9 and 10 months and lost them exactly one month apart at the age of 5. My son got his first one at 4 months and lost his at age 4!!! Yikes, but it was natural--the big tooth was pushing it's way through. I say the longer she can keep her baby teeth the better!! When did she get her first baby teeth?

My daughter is 6 1/2 and has lost 8 teeth she lost her first one at 4 1/2 and then they just all started getting loose and new teeth coming in. But she has a small mouth so in order for one tooth to come in 2 teeth has to come out. She was just at the dentist last week and he told us to take her to an orthodontist this summer for a check up because of the way her teeth were all crowded. I can see her mouth is going to cost me a bunch.
If I could just get her mouth to grow to fit all the teeth she has.

As the new adult teeth come in the roots from the baby tooth disolves. That is why when your teeth fall out there is no root attached like there is if you have a tooth pulled.

I had to have my last baby tooth removed through surgery when I was a freshmen in high school so it could be worse lol.

She has not 1 but 2 loose teeth now! I posted this 4 weeks ago and now she has 2 loose teeth. They are still pretty stuck in her gums but they are moving... she's so excited!

My worry is that she'll lose them when we are in Ireland Any ideas how long it takes from when the start getting lose to actually loosing them? Are we talking a few weeks or month or more???

How fast a loose tooth comes out really depends on how aggressively the child wiggles it. I have seen kids get teeth out before I thought they were ready and others hold on to their baby teeth way too long. It could be loose a while but you can never know.

If you judge by my one dd she had them out the minute they started to wiggle. She no sooner would show it was a tiny bit loose, then an hour or 2 later she was handing me the tooth

If you go by other dd it would be weeks, months, years (if she could). She babies the tooth from them moment it starts to get a little wiggle, until weeks later I just yank it out because it is just hanging by a tiny minute thread in her mouth.

I do believe the tooth fairy makes special trips to Ireland
