Let's talk kids teeth! - UPDATED on page 2

My DS 7 (will be 8 in July) just lost his first tooth a few months ago, and within weeks, lost almost all of them! We call him "Gummy" all the time- drives him nuts!! Anyway, if your DD is upset about her tooth situation, as our DS was, there is a really good Arthur book about not losing teeth when all your friends are. It made DS feel better about it- not so "left out."

Have corn on the cob for dinner - that should speed things up ;)

I don't kjow exactly how long it takes, but the dentist told us when DD's tooth was loose (we couldn't tell yet) in March and he said the tooth fairy should be able to visit "this summer" and he was right. So, I think the whole process takes about 3 months.

My son is almost 13 and hasn't lost a tooth "naturally" yet. His 4 front bottom teeth all had to be pulled at once because the 4 adult teeth came in behind them. And they weren't even a little loose! Then the top 4 front had to be pulled 2 at a time, same reason. We are still waiting on his eye teeth - no looseness in sight, but no eye teeth behind them yet. The dentist said it is unusual, but not rare.

The tooth fairy felt so bad about the first four being pulled that she left $20.00. So, of course, he expected $5.00 for each tooth. And yes, he got it! :teeth:

Hannah will be 7 in September, and has lost three teeth - two in November, and on in April. She got her first tooth at 8 months. Once she realizes one is loose, it is only a matter of days before it comes out. The last two teeth she insisted DH pull them, because she was so afraid they would fall out and she wouldn't be able to find them.

Emily will be 6 in August, and has no loose teeth yet.

Most of the kids in their K classes have lost 3-5 teeth already.

My DD is 5 and she just lost her first tooth last week. She has another that is ready to come out now. It's hanging there but she won't let anyone touch it. I did have to explain to her that the tooth fairy leaves you $5 for the first tooth and then about $1-$2 after that.

We just had the tooth fairy visit last night pixiedust:

That was after my 5 year old had the tooth DANGLING for weeks now (his adult tooth had already broken through the gum and was pushing up). I couldn't take it anymore, I just kind of wiggled it, came up with some excuse with a paper towel and got the thing out.

It really all depends on the child. My oldest got braces in October, before they put them on they do a whole mouth x-ray and they can see the adult teeth that still need to come down. She still has 11 baby teeth to lose and she's 12. She didn't lose her first one until she was probably about 7 1/2, then hers take a while to come out. Her adult teeth did come in behind her baby ones but the dentist said they would come out on their own (they did -so she never really had a toothless grin). She did have to have one pulled that the adult tooth came in behind it before getting the braces on though. Looks like another adult tooth is trying to pop through the gums without having the baby tooth get out of the way, so probably another pulled one eventually there too.

My 9 year old - I tell you he would have a loose tooth, it would pop out, I would turn around and he would have another loose tooth! The tooth fairy was visiting what seemed like a couple times a week. They all just decided to fall out at the same time. :rotfl2: He was younger than DD.

My 5 year old just lost his first one.

*I* had to have several baby teeth pulled when I was in Junior High (13-14 years old - they would get a cavity and the dentist would pull it...if i hadn't gotten cavities who knows how long they would have stayed in there!), so I am just assuming my DD is taking after me for hanging on to the teeth. I didn't get my first loose tooth until I was 8 and that was only because of an accident. I'm not really sure *when* they would have gotten loose if I hadn't accidently helped it along.
