Let's talk about pirate manners and pet peeves

For instance if you're starting a capture the flag game and the other team winds up with two basic ships instead of Wicked and Black Pearl, while you have the "good" ships, obviously you have a better chance at winning so it gives them incentive to start ASAP.
There are no "good ships" only good players, good teams, and good strategies.

Regarding your tactic of waiting three seconds, Peacefully: you're simply a generous overlord. Others need not be so, because they are.... the overlord. Also, your past individual experience with it may be suggestive, but is no guarantee of future results. Though we should not purposefully provoke wrath by our virtual choices (well not much anyway), the game is a learning experience about real life. Pain is. And then it is what you do with it.

Ricks (who knows the answer to Rodney King's question is... "no")

My pet peeve is seeing a group of people I "know" on a dock, say hello and none of them even replies back. They are not in trade, they are not talking about something else, and most of the time they are not in a game. They just choose to ignore me. Then, to top it off, if I start a game of Capture (I stink at Battle), 90% of the time they do not join, even if I ask. If I ask, I get no reply to that either. So, I've spent most of my pirate time the last few days playing with complete and utter strangers. I'm at the point where I will take rude over ignored.

Phew, got that off my chest. Now, back to my alleged job doing my alleged work.

I think I'm guilty of that transgression. But sometimes it happens when
I join a game and someone greets me, THEN the game starts before I have
a chance to respond. LOL

I had someone greet me similarly when I walked through the Mansion lobby
on my way to get NPCs. I didn't type fast enough to say "hi" back, and
the game swept me into the Phineas room. :)

If someone says hi to me I'm likely to miss it, since I'm either concentrating on the open games, trying to start my own game, or looking for another lobby to land in. I don't have good multi-focus, and I suspect this may be true for others as well.

It's still irritating to get the wrong ship and I usually go out of my way to defeat my impatient overlord first, if I know who they are, even with my slow poor shooting ship. I usually succeed too. :rolleyes1

If they're not chatting and not signed up in a game, and don't reply to you, they are likely afk. Nobody would ignore you DaraSue! :goodvibes Now if you see Pink dancing, unless she just got off the boat, it's a good sign she's reading the boards and it can take her a LONG time to come back to vmk.. :rotfl:
Sometimes I'll even sign up for a game, have it off to one side of my screen, then go through emails or dis boards on the other side of the screen until I see vmk screen go to the waters and switch on over.

Flag sitting...a pet peave that I probably should just ignore because it's NOT going away. I often say, if I'm shot with time left in the game, that "you can't sit on the flag in real life flag game", otherwise known as puppy guarding to the grade school folks (sorry, I'm a day care teacher) and even those grade schoolers get awfully upset when someone is "cheating" that way.

Again, what counts as flag sitting? Cause I don't want to be accused of it. I usually rotate around the flag and sometimes when moving I'll unintentionally stop on the flag, especially if I'm aiming at the oncoming flag grabber, but I usually move shortly afterwards. Would this count as flag sitting or is that just when the person sits on the flag the entire time?

LOL, Car! Yup, I'm guilty of dancing on the docks far more often than actually playing the game. :rotfl2: If I'm dancing, I'm not there! It just means I'm actually being a "good girl" and getting some work done around the house. :teeth:

I think there are a few people here that have gotten upset with me because they think I am "ignoring" them. That's not my intention at all. Sorry!

my two cents

the other day i was playing pirates and i had to be afk i had found out that if you get stuck on a rock/island the sea monster wont eat you and the place i decided to get stuck on a rock that happened to be in the path of an opposing ship since i think i had to be afk for like a minute and i did not want to be eaten by davey jones i said i wont move and the end of the game they reported me for cheating

What actually bugs me more than ANYTHING else, is when I boot someone and they keep coming back. I wish they made it where when you boot someone they can't join that same game.
I think it's funny when people call me a cheater or "brown nose" when they get blown up by me.

Think about it, if you are at a football game and the running back breaks a tackle, how often do you hear someone shout "Run!" - the running back knows what to do, it is an encouragement, nothing more. The player does not run off the field and say "Do you think I dont know what I am doing?" - no, not at all.
I do that all the time at school. Mainly because people here don't know how to encourage without an insult included.

Yeah, I can understand that entirely. I had that same problem the other day. I was so desperate to win my first key that I wanted to play with AI and ONLY AI, but people kept joining my game as soon as I started it. I booted them off and this one person goes "OMG! He Boots!!"

That really irritated me.

I would also like to know this. I usually position myself inside the "dock" so that my cannons are facing any entry, but I don't physically sit on the flag. I just sit in a position where whatever way an enemy tries to approach, they can get blasted by me either before they pick up the flag or shortly thereafter.

"I was more referring to people who simply say, "go!" or "shoot!" or "get the gold!" as if you are clueless. The tone in those phrases are much different than simply being the cheerleader for the team."

Wow, I really think you have a very low opinion of people if you think anytime someone says something like that they are deriding you. When playing with others, I often say "go!" after I die, it is meant as encouragement. And "get the gold" well, half nthe time you do not even know it pops up so that is a helpful phrase. And I do believe it is meant as such 99% of the time.

Think about it, if you are at a football game and the running back breaks a tackle, how often do you hear someone shout "Run!" - the running back knows what to do, it is an encouragement, nothing more. Sometimes I say that because they ARE clueless. Thet just stand in that one spot, and do nothing, then they die. I always get players like that. This may be rude but I always say "Only join if you Know how to play; no new come hers." I'm not trying to be rude, but I always get the "new players that don't know how to play."

Usually I'll try to say "Please read instructions before you play", if it's level one and they very obviously don't know what they're doing.

I'm not trying to be mean, just make sure they know what they're doing in the future.

This sentence has me cracking up! SO FUNNY! And yet so true! It's ALWAYS the first player to sink that has the most "helpful" comments during the game! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

You've raised some excellent points.

I also refuse to play with computer ships. You don't get as many credits with them because you can't take their gold when you shoot them... So you may be getting the win, but not the credits.

My BIGGEST pet peeve is the losing team cancelling the game. I can't count the number of times I have won the second round only to find out I won't get the "win" because the other team cancelled the game at the very end when they realized they were losing. GR!! I'm normally a very laid back person, but this happening over and over makes me want to reach through my computer screen and literally throttle the person. :furious: OK, deep breath. You're all seeing my dark side now, but seriously, WHY do they have to do that to the winning team. Is there another explanation that I'm not aware of other than being a poor sport?
I'm confused. How do you "cancel" a game? And btw what does throttle mean. I hear it several times but I don't know exactly what it mean. I'm kinda stupid so. .

Ill tell you what I hate about pirates:

When the tron suit was realsed I was so excited, so I bought tree :D Then I saw the quest for the room! Double Yay! I started the quest and when I was playing capture the flag, another player had asked "Does anybody have a tron suit?" all the others replied no because they have not done the Space Suit Quest. I replied "Yes, I do, I have three and I will be happy to trade them :)" Then madness broke out. This is how it went:
Player1(who asked for tron): Thats not fair give me one!!
Player2: Yeah! Your such a bragger!
Me: No you can earn on yourself.
Player3: But you said you were giving them out!!
Player1: Yes give it to me or I will report you liar!
Player3: I guess sunshine isn't so shine.i anymore! (this made me absloutly Furious!! :furious: )
Me: Please Follow VMK values.
Player3: Oh! Im scared!! What are you staff!?
Me: No but I think it is very smart to follow the values
Player2: What the He'll is VMK values?!
(this is in pirates, we haven't even moved)
ME: Please, just stop yelling at me.
Player1: No you lose her!
(finally we start our game, by this time I have written down all their names, I blow up the whole other team; we get out of the game and they continue to yell at me -_-)
Player3: Give me on!Now.
Player2: Me too!
Player1: You owe me an apologie!

Thats what makes me mad about pirates, sore losers. Now Im off to change my sig, I guess its a little to big
