Let's start a cruise tips thread!

Someone posted some great tips on the Cruise Trip board so I thought it would be a great thread for this board.

I know I could certainly use it since I am planning my first cruise.

From our experience on 6 DCL cruises....

- bring an extension cord
- bring an over the door shoe holder
- bring a hi-liter for the Navigator to hi-lite the things
you want to do
- don't fret over every detail
- have fun!!!!

My favorite tip:

Prepay your AMEX. I try to estimate what I think I will spend on my trip then I prepay my card about 2 weeks before I go. That way it doesn't hurt so much when I see the bill the last night of our cruise because I know that I have already paid it.

After 3 DCL cruises, I found myself taking the same pix over and over again.It was hard for me to decipher pix taken one year from the next This past cruise, in addition to the color film I brought, I shot 3 rolls of black and white film. The pix I took came out incredibly nice - especially family posed pix - they had nice, old Hollywood 'from a bygone era' ambiance...

Call your credit card company - such as AMEX - so they know that you are away.

Book your cabin before your trip!!!

1) I would inform your credit card companies where you are going, making purchases while on the trip would not fall within your normal buying patterns and the credit card company may put a hold on the card after the first purchases. This happened to a friend in Grand Cayman. If this happens call the company from the store to explain the situation.

2) Use a backpack as one of your carry-ons, works great to carry all your new purchases or your towels to the beach.
