Let's plan Together! Jan 2009

How many nights are you staying, and what are the dates?

You can easily get her cost for dining and tickets based on the number of nights you're staying and days you have tickets for.

Her share of the room cost depends on how you want to split it up. She could pay 1/4 of the room cost, since she is one of four people staying in it. She could pay 1/3, since there are three adults staying in it. Or she could pay only the extra charge for a third adult, if you figure you would have paid the regular room rate if she weren't there. The total room cost would be the package price minus the cost of tickets (3 adults, 1 child) minus the cost of the dining plan (3 adults, 1 child).

We can help with the actual numbers if we know the dates...

Your a savior! :worship:
We are going 1/13-1/20 We are paying for the room, she is just paying the extra charge.

We sure are no experts, but my Husband and I have done a bit of research because the time frame of this year’s Super Bowl falls about the same time we go to WDW each year.

The stadium in Tampa holds 65,857, we figure if even 10% of the fans come to Disney before or after, that is still only roughly 6500 extra bodies (I think we have seen tour groups that big ;)) broken up over all the parks. And with Super Bowl tickets already going for $1000-$10,000 per seat, the number of families that can afford the game and WDW drops even more.

Our trip this past year (Jan 30-Feb-6) with some strategic planning and Fast Pass use, never had a wait of over 20 minutes for anything. Add the possible extra bodies and we still think the risk is worth the reward. Just hoping to offer some help.:) Isn't trip planning fun!

Thanks for the info! This is the most useful break down of info I have found. :thanks:

I know, some people on these boards could have a new career with all the spread sheets and breakdown's they do. It's great, and believe me, we appreaciate it.

No problem, my Husband needs to break all this stuff down for me!:rotfl: Basically, even if it is a bit more crowded, we won't let it effect our trip.:thumbsup2

Kazooie01 that is such helpful information! I am hoping to arrive around the superbowl to avoid presidents week and still be invalue season and was afraid of the crowds.

OK, that's 8 days, 7 nights.
An 8-day adult base ticket would be $246.02, including tax.
Dining plan is $39.99/night, so 7 nights would be $279.93. As far as I know, tax is not charged on that...can anyone else confirm?
The charge for a third adult in the room is $10/night. This would be part of the total hotel bill, so it would be subject to 12.5% hotel tax. 7 nights at $10 plus tax would be $78.75

Total = 246.02+279.93+78.75 = $604.70

Hope this helps! Have a great trip! We're arriving Jan 19...maybe we'll see you there! :)

Just now finding this thread...

I'm planning our FIRST EVER trip to WDW for January 10-18, '09. I had our room only res for a few months, then converted it to a package res last Sunday, and transferred the whole shebang to a TA yesterday (so yes to the person who asked, it can be done).

Now I'm contemplating a split stay since we're booked at ASMusic Family Suites. (There are 6 of us, but one in a pack 'n play.) My TA and I are checking out the Poly or Contempo!

Wow, from ASM to the POLY, that would be a huge change.
Very exciting...I hope you can get it to work out :)

Add us to the list of those going in January. We are taking my parents down (it will be their very first time at WDW). We're looking at 1/3 - 1/9 or 1/31 - 2/6. I can't wait - it feels so close yet too far away! It's been almost 2 whole years since our last trip down and I've been having serious withdrawal from the Mouse ever since then.

Kim :)

I'm joining in! We are skipping Disney for 2008 but am DYING to plan a trip! I am leaving the options open, waiting for some magical price.....:wizard:

January sounds awesome!

Okay, I have posted this before, and didn't really get info, so I'll give it another shot here. we are booked for Oct into Nov., didn't get any type of code, so we are probably going to push it back to Jan. We went end of Jan into Feb last year and looooved it. I plugged in some dates for Jan and they are coming up same prices for value season, as reg season this Oct. Have the room rates went up THAT much? When are we gonna see discounts, or codes? I know we got a great code last time--but after we didn't get any thing with the code that came out for fall, can we bank on it?

FWIW, we just made our room-only reservation for January at POFQ (two nights) through AAA. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was a 20% discount off of the posted rates.

We are planning a trip with our family of six -- husband and I, eight year old triplets and a three year old. Right now we have it planned for December 6-17th. They will miss eight days of school. Looking at the school calendar for January there are several days they have off... one of which is Martin Luther King day...... we could go January 16-27th and they would only miss five days of school.

We were looking forward to Disney decorated for Christmas... but that is also a hard time to be gone from home. Price is actually a little less in January... the MLK days are higher rates but I can get airfare for a little less.

My question... which time is "LESS" busy at Disney... I know they are both "value" / slow season... but which is better. I we approaching the holiday bussiness with the Dec dates? Do the January dates work except MLK day weekend might be way busy???? Also, any difference in weather (we don't like it HOT... just nice).

Thanks,
Julie

Jphillips- We went last year and ended our trip MLK weekend, basically. We go Tuesday to Tuesday. It was cold but no crowds except MLK weekend, just dont do MK on those days and you will be fine!

I have heard that Christmas is 1) more expensive and 2) way more crowds.

We've got in Jan now a few time, and it's nice. It's at value rates, so price is right, and we too pull out of school. In 2008 when we wen Jan 25-Feb 2nd, it was below zero windchill, ( school was even cancelled here 1 day when we were gone due to the bad weather ) so, being from MN I know you can appreciate how nice it was to be at Disney in January. What is also nice is the excitment of the holidays has passed, and it's something inbetween the holidays and the long awaited sping to look forward to... So - I am sure it's because I've done it so many years in a row ( and again Jan 15-24th in 2009) that my vote is for you to go January and not Christmas....

The price at the values didn't go up at all. If I recall correctly, it was only the price on the Deluxe resorts that went up this year. If you go to the Disney website, you can compare ressort costs from 2008 and 2009. I honestly can't remember when codes came out for January last year. I think it was early fall. I'm hoping for a good code this year as well! :goodvibes

Thank you! I am looking forward to a code:wizard: I am going to change my ressies today from Oct to Jan. Sure was looking forward to Poly---but if it went up and we are looking at the same price as Oct---maybe we should try an ASMuFS.

Julie,

I think the crowds will be about the same at either of those times (and I just double checked with touringplans' crowd calendar). With the December dates, you'll be gone before the holiday rush arrives. And with the length of your visit (at either time), I think you'll have plenty of time to do most everything you want at a comfortable pace. Weather should be about the same at either time, also.

It's a tough call. I'd love to see the holiday decorations sometime...but I'm probably not organized enough to be away from home right before Christmas! Is MVMCP a must-do? Do you need to minimize the amount of school missed? Sorry, I know I'm not being very helpful! :sad2: I guess I'm trying to say that crowds and weather will be about the same, so make your decision based on your other factors. Either way, I'm sure you'll have a great time! :yay: If you decide on January, let us all know, and we'll keep an eye out for you!

I've read on other threads that the values are booking up quickly so I would definitely start working on getting your room soon! :)

I've read the same thing!! I think if we get the same great package discounts that we got last Jan(for the park hopper & all) we can still do the Poly.Just a garden view-it's really quite a diff from what we had booked for the cont.--tower, theme park view. I know it's beautiful, but that's A LOT of $$$$. I really kinda had the iffy's about the CR right now-lots of construction and noise. I live in a new subdivision with lots of new houses going up-so I really don't want to deal with it on vacation!;)
