Let's get organized! Organizing Task #2!

Wow! We are a big group now. Who has already finished their 50 things to get rid of? I haven't yet.

I have a good start, and have been through the master bedroom and bath. I am finally getting rid of the paraffin hand soaker thingie. It takes up a lot of room, and I haven't used it in a long time. As soon as I have at least 50 I'll take a picture so you can laugh at my junk.

I got rid of a bunch of papers when I realized I couldn't find my last years' personal property receipt and had to get my car relicensed the last day of Dec. I've only gotten rid of one major thing-a humidifier that's been sitting in my bathroom closet approx 7 yrs. I'm sure it had so much build-up on it that it would create more allergens than it helped, so it went in the trash today. (Unfortunately it was replaced by $450 OTC meds that we bought NYE when we realized we had about that much left in our Flex Medical spending accout, and we'd lose it if we didn't use it). So there goes the top shelves of my linen closet! :scared1:

taking my 50 to Goodwill tomorrow!! Most of it's in the car already, DH just needs to help load the rest. :woohoo: I'll try to snap a pic before I haul it away.

Count me in! I went thru all of my Christmas Decorations this afternoon while we were putting everything away. I filled three large totes with old decorations, lights, garland etc. We are looking to sell our house this spring and we've been trying to declutter where possible. It felt good to get the Christmas stuff tackled. :cloud9:

Please consider donating any blankets (also sheets, pillows, towels, etc) to your local animal shelter. They go through tons of them, and it makes those poor doggies and kitties feel at least a little love.

Thanks!
Terri

I never thought about that, usually I throw towels, sheets, etc away because I don't think anyone would buy them. Thanks for the tip!

I am in. I think I already have 50 items that have been in the back of my car to go to Goodwill for over 2 months:rolleyes1. Although I am cleaning out my pantry this week, so that will probably give me another 50.

I would like to be a part of this...we just moved into our house and I already have piles to go to Goodwill but have not really been motivated to get more done and deliver it all.

I really need to get the basement, garage and my closets organized...

Today I'm tackling the following rooms/home areas

DS-Room :scared1: Laundry Room, Garage/Fitness room, Kitchen, Office

I think I may also take before pics & after pics & tape the before ones on my laptop screen so I'll get off the Disboards and actually do it!:rotfl:

On a side note, I went to the gym this morning(5am) for the first time in a while, I figured if I would exercise again I'd get some energy back. I also stayed up last night to "organize" my meals for the day(put all 6 meals/snacks in a designated drawer in the fridge just for me so no one would mess up my system!) It keeps me eating healthy & will get my fitness back goals back on track where I would like them to be. :goodvibes

i've been getting rid of atleast 1 trash bag full of stuff every week since november. except the week of xmas, and this week.

the week i cleaned my son's room, i got rid of a lot more. mostly trash, but a couple goodwill bags. he is a hoarder. every paper from school, every box that comes into the house, FOOD WRAPPERS! he's 10. i pity the woman he marries.

when the school was collecting blankets, i got rid of some, but have more that need to go. we love blankets... my son and i are always cold.

usually on one of my days off, when i'm home alone, i'll go around the house and fill a bag then drop it off at goodwill before i get the boys. no one ever notices!! so that's my weekly goal : 1 trash bag of stuff to goodwill. anything more is a bonus!

I think he may be related to my DS20!! He use to keep even the sock and underwear wrappers!! Now, he's the clean neat one in the family. At college, he's the one that keeps the duplex clean! Hang in there, they do change. :thumbsup2

I've been working on this all weekend. I've thrown out way more than 50 things and have way more than that to get rid of since DGS17 is growing so much.

Without even trying to clean out clothes closets today, I came up with 11 items to toss in 2 minutes while just hanging up clean laundry.

So that's 25 books & 11 clothing items so far in less than 8 minutes invested.

And still sitting at my desk, I can think of the following items to go without even getting up:
punch bowl set (wedding gift from 20+ yrs ago --- ever used?)
microwave
hot pot
bread maker
extra crockpot
bedspread set with pillows still in the bag
bar stools

So, my goal for today was to clean out the fridge.

My husband and MIL both want to lose that holiday weight, I could stand to drop 5 lbs myself, and my son's blood sugar hasn't been great, so everyone needs to go on a diet. I figure a clean fridge is a good first step!

I intended to take a picture of my dirty fridge and then clean it and take a picture of it looking all pristine, to post here. But I've lost my camera. (Disorganized? Me? No!) :rolleyes1

I almost took that as an excuse to put off cleaning my fridge until my camera turns up, but then I thought that this sort of procrastination wasn't really in the spirit of things. So I gave up on taking pictures and just cleaned my fridge.

Here's what I tossed/recycled/composted:

* 3 "freebie" magnets, from local companies
* A page ripped out of Womens World for a recipe that's not compatible with the new diet and didn't taste that great anyway
* An empty Dijon mustard container.
* An empty bottle of Aunt Jemima pancake syrup.
* The cardboard box our yogurt cups came in.
* 1/2 a can of very flat ginger ale, don't know whose it is.
* A container of mystery gravy... or possibly chicken soup. It appears to have been in the fridge for awhile.
* An expired bottle of V8.
* Some dodgy chicken broth.
* Suspicious cottage cheese (not expired, but it smelled funny).
* 2 plastic bread bag ties
* A plastic net bag full of onion skins, but no actual onions.
* More onion skins, not in a bag.
* An empty plastic bag with a hole in it. I hope it's not related to the brown mystery liquid at the bottom of the vegetable crisper.

And that's it! 14 items tossed. Fewer than I'd expected, though I do seem to have an awful lot of mostly empty jars of things.

Next, the dining room table! (I'm sure it's under there somewhere...)

Tomorrow is garbage day and I'm getting rid of everything that I set aside already :)

While out doing errands today, I noticed all the clothing donation bins in parking lots piled high with bags. Looks like lots of people cleaning out early in 2011. :goodvibes I added my bag to the pile.

i had already gone through all my clothes and such last month. so i decided to go through the random junk drawers and my desk and closet. i lost count, but this is what got thrown away.

hope this pic doesn't come out huge!

I did the mitten bin this morning - found a half dozen without mates.

I'm up to 21 things in my challenge box so far, and will take the pic when I get to 50.

This past weekend, I cleaned out the storage shed and the garage. Took one SUV full, to Goodwill. The garage looks GREAT! :flower3:

Got BIG organizational plans this weekend! Toy boxes/bins are the first thing on the list! I'll let you know how it goes!

That's a big pile of junk! Good job. :lmao:

Here is part of my junk to get rid of. The rest is in the garage.

OK, I know we aren't done getting rid of junk yet, but lets start the next challenge for those that are ready to move on.

It's time to clean out the medicine cabinet and makeup drawers. Get rid of expired medicines, perscriptions you haven't used in 6 months, makeup that you never use or that is older than 6 months, anything that smells "off," (gross) or is otherwise unusable.
