Let's get organized! Organizing Task #2!

I totally :thumbsup2 the flylady.net suggestion! I have been following her for the last two years  And even when I fall off the wagon and the house gets chaotic she is always there to save my home when I climb back on the wagon!!

My dh is in the basement going through things. I had my 19yodd down there going through her stuff. (She has WAY too much stuff).

Basically I made her room very stripped down and I want her to pack up "forever things" so I don't get rid of it, etc.

Of course that involved memory lane.;)

I'm in too.
Today has actually been really productive. I cleaned out our pantry of things that were old, empty, not even bought by us but left here, and cleaned and reorgnized everything in there. It created a ton more space for storage.
I also cleaned out DS's broken toys put together a cubbie for his toys. I still need to go get a big basket type thing for his Thomas trains (he has more than fit in his little basket right now) and a taller basket for taller items to sit in.
I emptied and broke down all the boxes from Christmas that were in our foyer. DH is also a box pack rat (like a PP's) so I did it while he was sleeping. LOL
Finally, I needed to get rid of a beanbag chair so we could move one of our couches downstairs so I offered it to a friend of mine who will be coming to get it in the morning.
I am way over the get rid of 50 things game, and it feel good!
Well, feels good, but I am exhausted!

Yes, another one here who needs to de-clutter.

DH and I have been off work all week, he loves to be busy with a project so I mentioned that I wanted to straighten the game closet, next thing you know he is completely taking everything out, throwing away broken missing items, putting things in better, smaller boxes, threw away easily 50 items (decks of missing playing cards, etc.)

After that, he did the cleaning closet and straightened the linen closet in the upstairs bathroom that was a mess.

Too bad he doesn't get in a mood like this very often!:rotfl:

Good job, everyone!

Yesterday, we dropped off two large bags of clothes, a blender, a DVD player, a purse, a CD rack, a 6' artificial Christmas tree with stand, a set of dishes, and some assorted coffee mugs to our local thrift store.

Now, we have about 40 books to take to the used bookstore, hopefully on Monday.

I was going to take pictures, but my DH chucked everything in the car before I got a chance. When he gets on a roll, get out of the way or you're being donated!

I've also cleaned out my desk and filing cabinet. We've organized our garage - we need to take a large load to the dump, mainly of boxes left over from when we moved in ... in April.

After that, linen closet!

Me too, me too, I am in! I have a donation pick up scheduled for the 12 of January. Since I already consigned and donated 2 carloads of stuff in October not sure what is going in the new pile but it seemed like a good opportunity when they called yesterday. I have a catch all cabinet that can be sorted through, a closet and a bunch of books in the basement. Will probably take another hard look at my clothes again as well. Also while putting out Christmas stuff in Dec I promised myself that when I put them away I would sort through the things that have not seen the light of day for several Christmases.

Im game. I think I am pretty organized but then I really looked around the basement and saw many things put down there for later and forgotten about.

So while putting away the Christmas dec I was reorganizing and threw or recycled half a black trash bag and added approximate 8 things to my donate/ yard sale pile. So I am guessing I'm down for 20 things so far.

I'm in! I really need to do this. We are outgrowing our house like crazy and some days I feel the walls caving in. Its not so much the people but the STUFF inside that is the problem! Time to simplify! :goodvibes

OMG the stuff I've thrown out the past 3 months alone an I still got junk. Like 5 truck loads of junk out of my old house that went to the goodwill. At least 2 truck loads from my new house that came furnished including junk I did not want most of which was nice stuff but I was never going to use it. We just got the last of our stuff moved down here last Thursday so still unpacking.

New house is much smaller than old house but it's our retirement home for just DH an I I know we brought more stuff than we have room for an I also know it will be my stuff that is gotten rid of before DH's it's always been that way GRRRRRRRRRRR.

Right now I have a big box with at least 50 items in it that I don't want mostly kitchen stuff I was using till I got my kitchen stuff moved down here. Prolly still got close to 50 boxes to empty that will be tossed when emptied.

I am in! 2011 is my year to get organized & unscatter brained(which is always caused by my disorganized life!) :goodvibes

I'M SO GLAD I FOUND YOU ALL!!
My resolution is to de-clutter and organize ALL areas of my life-physically, spiritually, financially, EVERYTHING!!!

I started Wednesday and organized our "storage" area in the basement.

We've been planning on selling and moving to a bigger house, but since the market tanked (and our subdivision has been possessed by repo's), looks like we'll be here another year or two probably. So if we get some extra cash, I want to finish a large area of the basement, SO, time to get rid of the stuff I keep thinking will go in a bigger house. Nothing is staying, or coming into our house unless it SIGNIFICANTLY enhances our lives in some way. GET RID OF THE CLUTTER!!!

i've been getting rid of atleast 1 trash bag full of stuff every week since november. except the week of xmas, and this week.

the week i cleaned my son's room, i got rid of a lot more. mostly trash, but a couple goodwill bags. he is a hoarder. every paper from school, every box that comes into the house, FOOD WRAPPERS! he's 10. i pity the woman he marries.

when the school was collecting blankets, i got rid of some, but have more that need to go. we love blankets... my son and i are always cold.

usually on one of my days off, when i'm home alone, i'll go around the house and fill a bag then drop it off at goodwill before i get the boys. no one ever notices!! so that's my weekly goal : 1 trash bag of stuff to goodwill. anything more is a bonus!

Both pantry cabinets done!! Now I can see what I need, and more importantly, what I already have!!!

This thread makes me sad. Isn't it a shame how much crap we all buy, that just ends up in the dump? Even if we donate to charity, they do trash some of it. :guilty:

I'm glad we are all decluttering though. :goodvibes

I'm certainly going to me more aware of things I buy.

Please consider donating any blankets (also sheets, pillows, towels, etc) to your local animal shelter. They go through tons of them, and it makes those poor doggies and kitties feel at least a little love.

Thanks!
Terri

He can marry my DD!! She is 10 years old and her room is a mess!!!

I didn't get rid of much today but I did clean and organize my laundry room. It's a start....yes a small one, but its a start!

Subscribing!

I SO need the motivation. I'll post my progress tomorrow.

Ok...I'm in! I totally need to declutter and get organized. I work 2 jobs and don't spend a lot of time at home. So it gets cluttered pretty quick. I look forward to completing challenges with everyone throughout 2011.

Since I am a goal-oriented person...what is the "deadline" for getting rid of 50 things? (I know the date doesn't really matter, but I will do better if I have a deadline date.)

I the "deadline" is the 20th. but really that's just when we'll start the next challenge. So you can take as much time as you need. No pressure.
