Let's close another attraction before we get there!

OMG, WDW....like OMG....

First, you take away Toy Story Mania before our 8/18 arrival, then Small World, then Star Tours???!!!! C'MON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How about you wait until JANUARY?????? NOT DURING FREE DINING when your goal is to have MANY of us there ENJOYING our FAV rides????!!!! GEEEEESSSHHHH!!!!!:confused3

Ok, anyone else going in that time frame can hop on the vent train with me...toot, toot....let's go! :sad2:

Seriously OP - I know you are disappointed, but do you really think Disney is going to load all the refurbs into January? Disney operates 365 days a year, so it can't do refurbs during the winter like your local theme park. August is value season just as much as January is. We've had Splash closed twice during January trips, we've missed out on Space Mountain, and we've had other favorites closed as well. If you travel during value season, expect ride closures. If you want to be reasonably sure everything is operating, go Christmas or Easter week, pay top dollar, deal with the crowds, but expect everything to be running.

Make a choice between the great deal you are getting with free dining and having every ride operational and change your dates if it bothers you that much. Disney tries to give the best possible experience to all their guests, so even guests who travel in January are entitled to the same consideration as those taking advantage of free dining in August. Disney wants to fill the parks every month, so if you are not happy with August, let them know by postponing your trip to another time.

We had two favorites closed in January this year, so we are going back to experience them this month! :)

I just think of it as making my trips in the future more enjoyable!!
Yes, I am somewhat disappointed - but there is so much to do that it really doesn't matter in the big scheme of things.

Seriously, it's just a vent people. I know we are getting a good deal and there have always been rehabs hen we've gone no matter what time of year. The January comment was just a random month comment. Just a vent people...don't need justification on why they do or have people who go in January mad at me. Just a vent. I don't expect it to be perfect and everything open and no lines, just a vent! :sad2:

I'm limited to when we can go because I'm a teacher and have to go during school breaks or summer. So I can't postpone and wouldn't...we always go during the summer or Spring Break and I don't mind. We do the tour guide mike thing and always get to see everything we want. Again, it's a vent...you know, where you let off steam and feel better and go on with life.

Plus, this is what I read on the boards here and though it meant that Star Tours was closing on 8/14:

"This party of sorts will allow guests a last chance to ride the original Star Wars attraction before it shuts down for a yearlong rehab. Last Tour to Endor will be held on August 14 during Orlando's Star Wars Celebration V. "

I figured that. I was also disappointed about IASW being closed for our visit because this is a surprise trip for my DD and she really likes it. But there's plenty else to do and we'll do it a few extra times on our next trip to make up for it. At least they are rehabs and not closures! ;)

One moderate-to-major attraction per park being closed during a traditional slow time (heat, kids heading or already back in school, etc.)

Everything has to close for refurb at some point. They can't all happen at once, and any time is inconvenient for someone. If it wasn't TSM, it would be RNRC or TOT, but they aren't currently due - TSM was.

Oh yea, didn't you hear, Soarin, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Expidition Everest and Mission Space are going down for rehab on August 1.

My DD was talking to a CM about the changes that are happening on Star Tours and I for one and VERY excited about them closing it and re doing it!! It was a cute but very often skipped attraction for us, but after the rehab I think it's going to be a must do for sure! :thumbsup2
I'm VERY excited about this. I've always been a Star Wars nut so I'll be back to see what they do for sure. :)

That's mean. ;)

Seriously, there is nothing wrong with being disappointed when something you really like is closed. You just have to move on and do some other things instead.

I remember when the Haunted Mansion was closed during one trip. This is my absolute favorite in all of WDW so I just threw a tantrum and had a good cry in Liberty Square (not really ;) ) and moved on to enjoy other things.

Exactly. Something is always closed. Our last trip it was Space Mountain. Before that it was Spaceship Earth. Before that I think it was HM. This time it will be Star Tours.

It is just that much more to look forward to next time.

Some families are not as lucky as many of us on the DIS. For them, a trip to Disney is a once in a lifetime opportunity -- and if it's due to tight finances, they're more likely to come in the off seasons when Disney is offering price breaks. I feel for those folks who come down to find a number of key attractions down. But the question is, if not then, when is Disney supposed to bring them down for maintenance and upgrades that can't be done in a few hours overnight?

I think Disney does a good job of spacing the refurbishments out & they try to keep it to just one or two per park. It's disappointing when we go and find DS's favorite Splash Mountain is unexpectedly down and Space Mountain is under rehab, but he lived because he knew we'd be back within a year.

sadly it seems impossible to post anything on the Disboards lately without it polarizing almost instantly. There seems to be a lot of negativity and people reading each other the riot act these days. It may have just been a vent to you, but it was a chance for someone else to have an opportunity to set you straight and point out how wrong they think you are. On the flip side posting something opens it up for people to disagree and point stuff out.

I think this has been a reasonable conversation, actually. But everyone needs to understand that things need to close at some point, and with Disney being a 365 operation, something needs to be closed when people are there.and sometimes it will be your favorite attraction.

I understand the once in a lifetime trip thing, but closings are unavoidable. It is unfortunate, and I can only hope that those taking a once in a lifetime trip plan as best they can.

True - this has by far been one the less sarcastic and punishment inflicting threads I've seen in a while.

If you are someone(like me) who needs to go during the summer, June and July are less likely to have lots of closures, at least in my experience. I don't think anything was closed for refurb during our June 16-25 trip. It is disappointing when one of your faces is closed. Space Mountain was under refurb when we went two years ago, and that was sad, but we had plenty of fun anyway.

Yea, I agree! Wasn't sure what to expect by posting. It used to be you'd post and everyone but one or two would agree w/u or no one would comment. Now days...watch out!

....Believe it or not the goal of free dining is not to get you there enjoying your favorite rides. The goal is to get you there spending the money you would have used on food on merchandise.
And with the fact that to get 'free' dining, rack rates at the resorts must be paid, little, if any, cost to Disney.

And to think I was freaking out because pooh's playful spot will be closed when we go down in Oct.! Yes, with a two- year old your faves get a bit tweaked! Oh well, I'll just have to let him get his energy out by running around some signature restaurants while I throw back a few. Oh sorry, that was meant to be flamed in another thread. Please know I'm completely joking. Rehabs are disappointing when they happen, but oh so great when they are done! Yes, we are lucky that we can go back. I'm still waiting to ride the rehabbed Haunted Mansion! It's been so long it's probably due for another rehab! I'm hoping to sneak out alone during MK EMH this year - haven't told DH yet!

I think we are in for it for the next year or so with the FW expansion, but it is going to be amazing when it is done!

Well isn't that rude and insulting!!!!
:lmao:
Just kidding.

Seriously though, I know OP was venting but what kind of reaction would you expect?...."ya your right...dump it on people in Jan so we can enjoy free dining, slow crowds and no closures!!!"
OP may not have meant offense, and I think few if anyone took offense but they did point out one specific time, and people who go then are bound to respond.

As for boards being negative, if you post an opinion topic, you will get opinoins back.
Maybe be just more opinoin threads and fewer fact asking questions.
And everyone can voice their opinoin.

The only rehab I saw when I was there a couple of weeks ago was Drew Carey, but......never had any interest in it anyways.

That being said, Space Mountain was down for a few hours, but luckily came back up so we could use our fastpasses. We got fastpasses to Big Thunder and it went down from 4:30-rest of the day...so we never got to ride. Luckily, someone gave us their fastpasses to Splash, so we got to ride that instead!

I know rides go down unexpectedly, but I think I prefer knowing ahead of time instead of getting there and a ride goes down. But, no one can really control that. Still found lots of fun rides to do instead!
