Greetings from the Royal Pacific Resort here in the South Pacific Islands (the US/IOA islands anyway! :rotfl2:

DD got on the flight with no trouble - didn't even have to wait standby, they had several extra seats, so they went ahead and gave her a seat assignment when we checked in!:thumbsup2

Great flight, and since I had paid in advance Sunday evening ($141 total for a weekly rate), I was able to walk straight out to the Alamo garage and pick out the SUV I wanted. We chose a Toyota Highlander with a moonroof.

We had a nice overnight visit with my parents and got here in time to hit US for a hour before it closed (made it to Jimmy Neutron, Mummy, and twice on Men In Black).

Club level was full, so they couldn't upgrade me to it, but he did comp me a club level access card, so I can have access to the breakfast, snacks, desserts, etc. (great desk clerk!).

Great trip so far (unfortunately, I'll have to actually start working tomorrow :sad2: ;) ).

Not much here to report. We lost the playoff game and DS's football career is officially over:sad1: , he hesitated when he walked off the field, he was staring right at me and I knew just what he was thinking "this is it". Then he took the step and I wiped away a tear.

Awww, that makes me want to cry too. :sad1:

I'm working on a surprise 18th b-day party for him and I am text messaging with all his friends to compile a list. DH is in charge of creating a DVD of his baby years from all the video tape we have. He has to create a 3 hour DVD that will show on the big screens at the venue where we are holding the party. We opted for a Monday night, his B-day is the next day but the Monday had no athletic events on the calendar. Also, less chance of "crashers" and easier to pull off our ruse to get him there (new facility in town, and we are being invited to the soft opening) it is a totally reasonable excuse and he will buy it. Plus best friends Mom is high up in organization and "comped" the facility for us. See, Horseshowmom, your luck is wearing off!

This ought to cheer him up! Good for you! :thumbsup2

DD is getting ready for the annual Father Daughter Princess Ball. They attended and she loved it last year. We found the "perfect" dress last night and are discussing what we will be doing with her hair and what color corsage and boutinier (SP?) to get. The dress is black and cream (she wanted blue, could not find anything blue) so I suggested a corsage of cream roses with black and light blue ribbon and her Dad can wear a light blue shirt with his sportcoat. She always wears ballet slippers and tights. She hates dress shoes, I swear she is going to go to the prom and get married in ballet slippers.

This sounds like such fun! My DD would have loved it. BTW, like Sandy, when the time comes for her to get married, she'll wear ballet slippers, because BF is only a little taller than her too.[/QUOTE]

Like you, not much going on around here except A LOT of work. We went up to Boulder on Sunday and spent the day with DD - that was nice. Ate at the Cheesecake Factory - yummy. DD and I split the Lemon Chicken; oh my goodness!!! Then DH and I split a chocolate peanut butter cheesecake slice, but I was so full I could only eat a bit or two. That was so decadent - I love chocolate and peanut butter.

MMMMM!

DS is starting indoor lacrosse training. The same knee that was giving him some problems last spring is starting to bother him again, so I have an appointment with the doctor next Tuesday for him

I hope everything goes well with the knee. Keep us updated!

The bear has been back several times since I last posted about him. Fortunately, he only spilled the trash once!! :thumbsup2

My DH is fascinated by your bear!:rotfl2:

Tell your DH that the bears are an enjoyable pest. They always come at night, so we never need to worry about being attacked or anything like that. We like our bears, until you have to clean up trash with bear slobber on it - that's gross.

You see, I'm fascinated (and terrified) by YOUR water mocassins and cottonmouths!!!

Hope everyone is having a great day. It's been beautiful fall weather.

I had another swimming lesson last night. I can do the backstroke very well and have much improved on my freestyle. I am still trying to work out the "rhythm" so that when I take a breath, I don't stop with my strokes. That's the hardest part thus far. I tried to do the breast stroke last night, but the kick is SO hard (for me) to figure out. Oh well, I will continue on.

Getting a manicure and pedicure today, so I am excited. My toes really need it and my fingernails are getting long enough to drive me crazy when I type. Pretty difficult when you work on a keyboard for a living!!!

Well, take care and check in when you can!!

Melissa, are you going through Football Mom withdrawl yet?

Good Morning:

Bright blue skies, and a temp of 70 on tap for today, beautiful fall weather here also.

CottonMouths/Water Moccasins?????:scared1: I must have missed something along the way.:confused3

So, ballet slippers aren't as unusual as I thought:) It all started when DD was a flower girl in my best friends wedding, she was 5. By the time the rehearsal was over she was not having anything to do with the fancy shoes and out of desperation I called home and had DH pull her ballet slippers out of her ballet bag and bring them to us for the wedding. She has not owned a pretty pair of black patent leather anything since. Now the only question is black or pink slippers:lmao:

DS and girlfriend are going strong and she is really growing on me;) . She joined us for dinner last night and they were discussing what she was going to wear to the JA dance in late February, I am assuming in the teen world that making "future" plans means all is well.

I paid the residents hall deposit for DS for UNR the other day:sad1: We even picked the all important meal plan! Went with the if you don't use it all it will roll to the next semester or if you do use it all parents can add to it plan. The kid certainly will not starve.

Horseshowmom:
So glad everything worked out and that you are having a great time, sorry you have to work a little;) small price to pay...........

How are DH and Chachi doing? Has Tigger taken over and set them all straight yet?

What do you think of the Highlander? That is what we rented when we were in Texas this past summer. We thought it was pretty comfy and the all important AC rocked!

I had a Pontiac G6 when we were in Oregon last week, now that little car had some kick along with great gas mileage. The only thing I could not get used to was that the dash was red, at night it glowed, it freaked me out!

Sandy:
Yummm, Cheesecake Factory! We don't have one here but I have eaten at the one in Las Vegas and really enjoyed it. Personally, I only like plain cheesecake I don't even like the fruit on top. I'm weird.

Glad to hear the swimming is coming along. I was a swimmer in high school and while I managed to master the breast stroke kick (just never got any speed to it) I never could master the back stroke, I just sink!

Bear slobber, ewww gross! Do you ever see your visitor or just find the mess the next day?

Enjoy your mani & pedi, I love getting my toes done and having baby butt smooth feet:goodvibes

How goes things in DS's Bio class? Hope his knee is on the mend. Those pesky knees!

As for me, I do think I am in a little bit of withdrawal. I am really having a hard time with all of DS's "milestones" DS is also struggling with having a lot of energy that he doesn't know what to do with now that he is not at practice everyday! I suggested cleaning his room:rolleyes1 He is back to physical therapy today for his knee, that usually kicks his hiney a little.

Still working on DVD for DS's party. Came down the hall yesterday morning to see DH viewing DS's 3rd grade talent show! I vetoed it immediatley, not only would DS kill us but so would several of the kids that will be in attendance as they were also in the talent show:lmao: My DS and his friend lip synching and dancing to BackStreet Boys:scared: Told DH to stick with Baby/Toddler video.

Glad you are all well and enjoying your week. Take care and have a great day

Now that talent show video is something I would HAVE to include on the DVD!!! :lmao:

Glad the the girlfriend is working out okay; she sounds like a nice girl. DS is still playing the field here. What a surprise . . . ;)

Congrats to your DS on UNR. It does feel weird to put down the deposit, though, doesn't it? We put down one deposit for his admission and when the housing website opens up around Thanksgiving, he will make his housing choices and put down another deposit then. DS has several friends up at CU-Boulder that are sending him housing suggestions, so he's starting to get an idea of what dorm he wants to be in next year.

The biology teacher seems to be okay at the moment, but they haven't had a test for awhile, so I'm not entirely convinced. I DID go buy DS an AP Biology study guide at Barnes & Noble yesterday, just to be onery.

In the 15 years we've lived here, we have actually seen the bears probably 10 times. They are active in our neighborhood from late June through mid/end of November, depending on how early we get the big snowfalls. They start coming down from the mountains when the spring berry crop is all eaten. The bears usually start to come out around 10:00 or so, and we would be watching tv in the family room at that time, and we hear the dog's bark change to something very high-pitched and agitated. So we'll go out on the deck and look towards the trash bin on the side of the garage. If the bear is here, that's where it will be. The bears have NEVER come toward us; they really don't react very much to us at all. And of course, we never move off that deck toward them. The first thing you do is look for cubs - if you see any, then we all scramble back into the house because THAT'S when they're most likely to attack - if they perceive that their babies might be in danger. But usually the bears come after we've gone to bed, so Tundra is in the garage and she hears them and she is very agitated when we let her out in the morning. She has a dog door in the garage, but we install the cover at night so she can't go out and things (cubs, small animals) can't come in.

The only time one was reported in our neighborhood in broad daylight was when we had the Hayman Fire in 2002 that was about 12 miles as the crow flies from our house and we had animals of all kinds trying to avoid the danger then.

I think DS gets some inflammation in that knee when he runs too much. The day it started hurting, he had 3 lacrosse games in a day. So I think that's his issue. I hope your DS's knee gets better soon, Melissa.

Well, gotta get back to work!!! Have a great day!!!

You see, I'm fascinated (and terrified) by YOUR water mocassins and cottonmouths!!!

I'm pretty terrified of them too! Not to upset any ecologists, but as far as I'm concerned, the only good snake is a dead snake! :rolleyes1

I love swimming, but I doubt that your instructor would be very impressed with my technique! :rotfl:

Getting a manicure and pedicure today, so I am excited. My toes really need it and my fingernails are getting long enough to drive me crazy when I type. Pretty difficult when you work on a keyboard for a living!!!

I wish I had pretty fingernails. I've bitten mine my whole life. At 48 years old, that's pretty ridiculous, but I've tried everything, and nothing has ever worked. :sad2:

I'm glad everything is pretty peaceful. That's always nice!

I like how it will roll over if he doesn't use it. That's a nice plus. DD didn't live on campus, but I looked over the material, and her university didn't offer that option. What they didn't use, the just lost. Yours is much more parent friendly!

Horseshowmom:
So glad everything worked out and that you are having a great time, sorry you have to work a little;) small price to pay...........

How are DH and Chachi doing? Has Tigger taken over and set them all straight yet?

Actually have had to work quite a bit (all day yesterday and most of today), but the sessions have been very informative.

DH says everybody is doing well. He didn't even put Chachi in the kennel during the day, because we had a cold front come in, and he didn't think he needed to be outside (how about that!).

I bought a Tigger t-shirt at one of the Disney outlet stores, so I know Tigger will be impressed! :rotfl:

What do you think of the Highlander? That is what we rented when we were in Texas this past summer. We thought it was pretty comfy and the all important AC rocked!

Absolutely love it! Drives great and is very comfortable. Toyota is in the process of building a new plant near us to build the Highlander, so I was curious about it. The only thing that I've found that I don't like is the skinny little armrests in the front. They don't seem very substantial.

As for me, I do think I am in a little bit of withdrawal. I am really having a hard time with all of DS's "milestones" DS is also struggling with having a lot of energy that he doesn't know what to do with now that he is not at practice everyday! I don't know. It sounds so cute! But, you know the kids involved, so I'm sure you know best (but it sounds adorable!).

Just wanted to add that DD has been having a blast at US/IOA. She doesn't mind going alone at all. One of her friends is actually here with her mother, but she doesn't do thrill rides. DD has been reading the Men In Black tips on the Universal board and got her score up to pretty close to 800,000 yesterday. One of the times she had 702,000, but the bonus didn't kick in or she would have broke 800,000. She was annoyed! :rotfl2:

She was put on a car with a family yesterday (mom, boy about 10, and boy about 15). The teenager started complaining to his mother that he didn't want "her" (meaning DD) to ride with them because she was going to bring down their average score (what a brat!).

When it was over, the 10 year old kept trying to make his brother look at DD's score. Finally, the teenager told his little brother to just shut up. :rolleyes1

I told DD that I would have HAD to looked at the boy and said, "I hope I didn't bring your score down too much." His was about 125,000.

I wouldn't have been able to stop myself from saying anything, Horseshowmom, so your DD is a better person than me!!

We LOVE Men In Black - in August, I lost count of how many times we rode it. And we ALWAYS beat the other car, no matter if it was just the 4 of us or if they added 2 more passengers.

Glad she's having a good time, and glad that you're enjoying yourself as well. Inside Islands of Adventure, when you first go in, there's a little bakery on the right side. I wish I was there now eating one of their pastries!! Yummy!!!

Have a safe trip home, and watch out for those snakes!!! :thumbsup2

Isn't it something Moon (the bakery, I mean)? I'll have to check it out! :thumbsup2

I've got to figure out how to pack all of this extra stuff that we've bought. I had in mind to send it back in the car with the others that are there, but it turns out that they were completely full coming down (couldn't even see out the back window of their SUV), and they've also bought more stuff. If worst comes to worst, I may have to find a big box and ship some of it home UPS! :rotfl2:

You're right, it's "Moon" something. I can't remember. Great pastries and some sort of egg wrap/crouissant - absolutely delicious.

I can appreciate the extra stuff dilemma. I was very good in August - I only bought a shot glass home!!! That's a first for me. I'm saving my $$$ for our cruise - I already know I want to get lots of stuff on that trip.

The UPS shipping isn't a bad idea. Smart woman. :thumbsup2

I actually think we're going to make it okay (after some selective arrangement of items and the fact that I borrowed an extra carryon bag before I left my mother's house! :rotfl2: ).

DD did pretty well on MIB today - high score of 959,675! :thumbsup2

Glad that you're going to (got?) everything home okay.

As for your DD's score - all I can say is :worship:

Good Morning. Good weekend around here. We went out to dinner with friends on Friday night and enjoyed ourselves. Enjoyed watching Nebraska finally win after 5 straight weeks of losing. :cheer2: Chilled at home on the couch Saturday night, which was much needed.

Went over to some friend's house yesterday for an afternoon barbecue. I was responsible for the appetizer and made a great discovery yesterday - Safeway Artichoke Dip with Jalepeno. Yummy!!!!

We moved some our weight system around to a different floor yesterday morning. Now recognize that I hate moving furniture and stuff more than almost anything in life. But, amazingly enough, it went very smoothly.

DD found out on Friday that she did get accepted to CU's School of Journalism. So she will be majoring in Economics and Journalism (with an emphasis in Advertising). She was very happy and will register for Spring classes sometime today.

DS has no girlfriend as of yet; just lots of potential ones!!

Well, that's about it. I hope you all have a good day!!

Sounds like a great weekend! We got DD on the plane coming back too, so she didn't get left in Orlando (although those extra days on her ticket kept calling her ;) ). I upgraded her to Business class with me, so they would assign her a seat (Memphis assigned her a seat as soon as she checked in, but Orlando was going to have her wait until everybody was boarded - which is the way the program is actually supposed to work). We had a great flight.

BF talked her into waiting until this morning to go back, so we had a nice quiet day yesterday.

I can't remember if I've already said this (ignore me if I have), but BF came to see DH to have "the talk" while we were gone. DH said it went well (just took BF quite awhile to get around to it! :rotfl: ). DH said he heard a knock at the door and there was BF (with no warning, he was lucky DH was home). He said it was a good visit, and he gave him his blessing.

BF hasn't told DD that he saw DH, so he may be getting ready to spring a surprise on her. It looks like it won't be long now...

Hey Girls Happy Monday! (Total oxymoron, I know:rolleyes: :lmao: )

Glad to see that you are home safe and sound Horseshowmom and that you had a great time! Here is my trick for getting all the vacation purchases home. I bought 2 duffle bags that zip closed and collapse to the size of a large pillow case. I throw them in empty and return with them full:rotfl2: Although, I have used the UPS trick in the past:guilty:

I too bit my nails for many years, now I wear a gel nail and I just love it. Totally different from acrylic, they always look great, don't break or "lift" like acrylic does. I do still chew on my cuticles tho:rolleyes1

First I heard:cheer2: Poor guy, you know that must really be hard, to face the Dad and ask for his little girl! What I want to know is whether or not Chachi gave his consent, seems to me that being the King of the castle and all he should have some say:lmao:
How exciting - are you having a hard time keeping the secret?? I think it would be just oozing out of me!

Having never been to IOA (although I told DH that next visit we are going there and staying at one of the hotels you keep talking about with that front of the line pass thingamajig! I am assuming that the Men In Black game that you both are referring to is interactive like the Buzz Light Year ride????

Sandy, sounds like you had a busy weekend and congrats on Nebraska:woohoo: You have teen son, why are YOU moving the furniture? Silly girl, weights are for boys:lmao:
Artichoke & Jalapeno, yummmmmm
Don't you just love those convenient caterers ... Mrs. CostCo, Mrs. Safeway etc;) They are a much better cook than I could ever be. I personally am rather fond of Mrs. Costco, her pumpkin pie is the best! We do have Safeway here but the location is not convenient to me.
Congrats on DD and the Journalism School, she needs to talk to my cousin. Cousin graduated with her Masters in Journalism/Advertising last December. Now, she has decided that it isn't what she wanted, the money is not good enough, the hours are long etc..... So.....she is headed to Law School in January, we are all beginning to think she makes a better student than an employee:lmao:

How is DS's knee?
My DS is back to P.T. 3x's a week for 3 weeks since he aggravated it in that last game.
I thought of your bear last night when we were watching Raccoon #3 (this was a really big guy) out on our deck last night. Lately our news has been discussing the possibility that Waste Mgmt. is going to start providing "Bear Proof" trash containers to wider areas since the bears are venturing further into populated areas looking for food. Last week a bear was hit on I-80:sad2: :sad1: just west of Town in the foothills. They said she was a healthy female who tried crossing the HWY in the early morning hours and was hit by 2 different vehicles. The second vehicle hit was fatal.

I took DS and his sweetie out to dinner Friday night to celebrate their grades. They both had really good report cards so we went and played pool, ate lots of "bar" food and had a good time. DH and DD joined us for awhile and then I stayed with the older kids.

Well, back to work, I have been in and out all day - took DD for a consultation for "spacers" that her dentist recommended and I need to get caught up! Have a great day

You hadn't mentioned it before, so it is great news!!! You're right; it doesn't sound like it will be long now. :goodvibes

They're a good couple (which is a load off of our minds! ;) )

Good idea! On this particular trip, I had to check her bag as part of my two checked bags (she couldn't check a bag since she was flying stanby). We both wound up with carryon bags and made it. I'll bet the two checked bags barely made it under the 50 lb. limit. :rotfl2:

I too bit my nails for many years, now I wear a gel nail and I just love it. Totally different from acrylic, they always look great, don't break or "lift" like acrylic does. I do still chew on my cuticles tho:rolleyes1

Tell me about the gel nails. That sounds like an idea (and yes, I bite my cuticles too :headache: ).

First I heard:cheer2: Poor guy, you know that must really be hard, to face the Dad and ask for his little girl! What I want to know is whether or not Chachi gave his consent, seems to me that being the King of the castle and all he should have some say:lmao:

Chachi would say, "Take her and go!" :rotfl:

How exciting - are you having a hard time keeping the secret?? I think it would be just oozing out of me!

Yes!

Having never been to IOA (although I told DH that next visit we are going there and staying at one of the hotels you keep talking about with that front of the line pass thingamajig! I am assuming that the Men In Black game that you both are referring to is interactive like the Buzz Light Year ride????

I love Disney, so this isn't a slur at all, but Buzz Light Year is a very, very watered down version of MIB. It's very cool! And the hotel key gives you unlimited front of the line access which is wonderful!

I am not a good cook and don't enjoy it to start with. I wish we had more options nearer to me, but as you know, everything is about 50 miles away!;)

Congrats on DD and the Journalism School,

Same here. I know that she's excited! :thumbsup2

I took DS and his sweetie out to dinner Friday night to celebrate their grades. They both had really good report cards

Good for them! :thumbsup2

Well, back to work, I have been in and out all day - took DD for a consultation for "spacers" that her dentist recommended and I need to get caught up! Have a great day

Good luck with the spacers!

Rough morning here, I've got a horse down that may have to be put to sleep.

She's a 25 year old Thoroughbred mare. She was basically a rescue horse. She was headed for a killer auction, and we bought her for $250. She was injured on the track when she was young and sold for a broodmare which is how she spent most of her life. She was eventually given to someone who was supposedly going to give her a good home but actually traded her to somebody for something else. We bought her from that person.

She has an abscess in her front hoof and a general fever from the infection. She does NOT do shots (really explodes if you try), but she took two shots this morning and didn't even flinch. She's really sick and is down. If she doesn't get up by tomorrow morning, she'll have to be euthanized. The vet is hoping that the pain shot and antibiotic will kick in and that she'll make it up later, but he agreed that it looked pretty bad. She's just really old and doesn't have a lot of strength. Fortunately, she is still eating good, so I'm hoping that will help.

Talk to y'all later...

Horseshowmom:
 I'm so sorry to hear about your horse. I hope she does okay and that the pain killer and the antibiotic will work their magic.

Thanks for the kind wishes, but unfortunately, the meds didn't work.

It started raining, so I spend most of the day out in the pasture with her holding an umbrella over her head. I didn't want the rain pouring into her eyes. She never was able to get up although she tried numerous times (really hard to watch). She ate good though, so I gave her plenty of the feed that she likes best and tipped a bucket so she could drink out of it.

I called the vet back and told him that I didn't want to wait until morning. I was positive she wasn't going to get up, and I didn't want her to lay there all night struggling to get up. When he got there that afternoon, he agreed that I was right. She wasn't going to make it. Hard day... Somebody is coming to bury her this morning.

Then, this morning when I went to feed the cats, I saw that Skia (the squirrel) had her teeth hung on some shredded material sticking out of the bottom of her house. She couldn't get loose no matter what she did, so I nerwously reached in the cage (remember DD is the one she likes). She came straight to me and sat very still until I started trying to get the string loose. It must have hurt, because she started trying to claw me. I went in the house and came back with scissors and was finally able to clip it off near her mouth. The fuzz is still between her teeth, but maybe she can get it out. At least she can reach her water now and get in her house (supposed to have a storm this afternoon). She's getting older now and is starting to have problems (claws getting too long, etc.). She may be my next elderly one to go. So far, I've lost 4 in less than a year. :sad1:

I told DH that I want to go back to Orlando. :guilty:

Horseshowmom, I am so sorry about your horse.

I hope that the squirrel is okay as well. I am still amazed that it lets you get so close!!

I told my family about your DD's MIB scores - they are in awe.

Thanks for the well wishes about Journalism School. DD is excited as well.

DS went to the doctor yesterday for his knee. He has a muscle (T-band or something like that) that needs some physical therapy to stretch. So I have to set that up for him over the winter months.

Melissa, if you get the chance, you do have to stay at one of the Universal Hotels. MIB is far better than Buzz Lightyear, in my opinion. And I like Disney as well, so it's not a knock on WDW. My personal favorite is the Hard Rock, but maybe that's only because I haven't yet found a good enough deal to justify staying at the Portofino!!!

Sorry if I seem a little disconnected today. I am running around with about 8 different irons in the fire this morning!! Will write more later when I get a quieter moment.

Have a good day, all.

Good luck with the therapy. It can do wonders!

Horseshowmom, I am so sorry about your horse.

Thanks, she had a good life while she was with us, and that makes me feel a little bit better.
