Happy Monday:

I'm a little sun burned in some places and a lot sun burned in others. Next time I need to take the shorts off and then apply the sunscreen to the area that the shorts covered but the bathing suit did not, oops! I have thighs that currently resemble hot wings!
Also a little dehydrated and a little sleepy, all symptoms of a great weekend:thumbsup2 The fireworks were terrific as always and I swear DD is going to turn into a Poly Wog with the amount of time she spent in the water!

Hope you all had a good weekend.

Melissa
Welcome back, Melissa. I'm glad that you had a good time. Sorry about the sunburn, though. I got a little of that myself on my shoulders Saturday - we took the motorcycle to run a few errands and I had on a sleeveless shirt. Not as bad as yours, though. Just keep putting on aloe vera and you should be better soon!

How were your dinners and breakfasts? Your menus sounded scrumptuous. But I'm ready for lunch soon, so I guess I've got food on the brain.

I tackled a downstairs spare bedroom that had been the dumping grounds for a lot of "stuff" on Saturday morning. Took me about 4 hours, but the darned thing is now CLEAN. And my family even pitched in and helped put stuff away, which was amazing.

Went out for a late dinner Saturday night with the kids to one of our favorite pizza places.

Sunday, threw the frisbee around and I walked the golf course while DH and DS played nine holes.

Started watching "Letters from Iwo Jima" last night, but I am so pathetic - I fell asleep midway through the movie. It was really good; I was just so tired.

DD went to see boyfriend yesterday at the Wolf Preserve. She'll be back on Tuesday. We were teasing her about sleeping with the mice again, which she did NOT find funny. :rotfl:

I had to watch a mandatory training on Workplace Harassment this morning, which was a complete waste of 2 hours of my life. I mean, I work AT HOME 2 weeks out of every 3 - who am I going to harass, and who is going to harass ME? Most of the time the only creature around is Tundra!! She's irritating at times, but it doesn't qualify as harassment. :)

Well, that's about it for here. I have go to the Bed, Bath, & Beyond website to scope out the wedding registry to figure out what I need to buy tomorrow for DH's nephew's wedding. I lead an exciting life, don't I?

Have a good day, everyone.

Sandy:

Maybe Tundra figured out someone was plotting a bath and lodged a harassment complaint!
I hate those kind of things, I am the HR department and I am usually the one who inflicts them:lmao:

Oh, I hope your DD does not encounter the mice again, I don't know if poor boyfriend could take another night of that!

There you go, cleaning again:laundy: ...............I know you claim that you really don't clean except when ticked off, but.............the den? the closets? come on now, you're making the rest of us who cannot open a closet for fear of the avalances look bad;)

Have fun shopping for that wedding gift. I always dread that part. When my brother finally got married 2 years ago they registered for some fancy spendy (Ralph Lauren) towels at Macys - I bought them all including all the bath mats and throw rugs and then doled it out as the shower (there were 3 I attended) and the wedding gifts! Not very imaginative but they were happy to actually get an entire set of something!

The camping food was great - We got to the RV park (my idea of camping includes full hook ups, flushing toilets and a shower!) at about 7 on Friday and quickly got the camper unpacked. It has become our tradition to have bacon burgers from our local butcher shop on our first night. These are ground sirloin with ground country bacon in them, they are lean and super tasty! I get a sub roll from the local grocery store that is moist and a little chewy for the bun, it is the best!

Saturday morning we had country bacon, sausage links (all from the same butcher as burgers above) along with french toast and fried eggs.
We had assorted sandwiches during the day and I BBQ'd italian, bratwurst and kielbasa sausages for dinner.

We spent Saturday at the pond where we joined up with our friends who live in the area for the day. There were all kinds of goodies to be had in addition to what was in my cooler. Assorted sausages, BBQ chicken wings that were spicy/lime to die for good, BBQ meatloaf (odd I know, but DS was in heaven) of course he was in heaven anyway because all these people spent the day feeding him!

One of the locals visited my favorite butcher here and brought Kangaroo Ribs (too chewy with a slight aftertaste) and rattlesnake (lots and lots of bones and the seasoning was too bitter/hot) I tried the smallest piece just so I could say I have had it.

My favorite thing about camping is the morning coffee - I woke up Saturday morning and could hear the perculator perking away, it was super cold Saturday morning (36 or so) and I got up and had a cup of creamy hot coffee while sitting under a tree listening to the birds - yummmmmm

The Graeagle Outpost makes the best frozen/blended Mocha and in the course of the weekend we consumed 12 of them between us and the 3 kids (we had an extra rent a kid who we always take with us).

Sunday I got lazy and we went into Graeagle for breakfast at the tavern. It was good and someone else fixed it!
Then off to the pond where we floated all day had sandwiches again for lunch and BBQ'd all the leftover meat when we got home last night for dinner.

I think tonight I am going to order Dominoes! Have a great day

Horsehowmom and Pam hope your both doing well.

Wouldn't surprise me. Dog came in this morning while DH and I were having coffee. She NEVER does that in the summer. She did it this time because it was too windy for her! Dog's a wimp.

Yes, I was supposed to have done this training months ago, but hey, actual WORK got in the way. So I did it the very last day that I could!

Oh, I hope your DD does not encounter the mice again, I don't know if poor boyfriend could take another night of that!
True. ;)

There you go, cleaning again:laundy: ...............I know you claim that you really don't clean except when ticked off, but.............the den? the closets? come on now, you're making the rest of us who cannot open a closet for fear of the avalances look bad;)
Mind you, we couldn't even WALK in this room - it was that bad. When DD came home from college, some of her overflow was dumped in her because we were doing the prom pictures here (remember, it was last minute at MY house because of the breakup of the couple and they were supposed to be at the girl's house?) and I had to hide the clutter somewhere. Well, this room was my "somewhere".

I haven't been to a wedding in a while, so I'm looking forward to it. DH's nephew is in his mid to late 30s, and his bride-to-be has been married before, so their list is actually kinda eclectic since they both have quite a bit of "stuff". Actually, they're also registered at Target and they've asked for a variety of board games, so I may get that instead. I like "fun" gifts, as opposed to practical ones. If DH ever bought me a vacuum cleaner for Christmas or my birthday, he'd be dead!!

Forgot to add - She works as a diamond buyer, so her engagement ring is HUGE and quite beautiful. Helps to work in THAT business!!

Sounds like a tasty time!!! You must be quite the cook! I'll have to come out and clean for you, while you prepare dinner and drinks.

Horsehowmom and Pam hope your both doing well.
Me too!!

Oh, I almost forgot! A bear came through on Saturday night and tipped the trash can over. Fortunately, it was mostly paper from my newly cleaned room, but still a pain to clean up. So it looks like the trash can is going inside the garage at night again.

Sounds just like my den:lmao:

"Mom, where do I put ......."
"Den"
"Mom, where is my backpack, snowshoes, note book, cameras, books, extra toys, games, computers, spare tv & couch etc."
"Den"

I avoid the den, it it hazardous to life and limb

You got it, I am a good cook and heck of a bar tender :thumbsup2 What's your schedule in August????? can you stay thru, ummmm lets say early October, that should about do it!

A BEAR  :scared1: :scared1:  and here I thought I lived in the boonies! I would make sure I was inside along with that trash can, no midnight strolls for me:scared: I would say you have a big dog, but given what you have told us of her, a big shovel might be a better option:laughing:

Umm, sounds like there's a lot of stuff building up there, huh? :) Why sure, I'll come. Just keep the margaritas flowing!!

We live just north of the Air Force Academy in the foothills. The bears start to come down this time of year when the berry crop is gone. We normally don't SEE them - they come in the middle of the night when we're sleeping. Tundra is safely locked in the garage or if it's too hot, in the laundry room. So she can usually HEAR them, but they can't get to her and she can't get to them.

Occasionally, they come around 10:00 p.m. or so while we're still up watching tv, so we do see them. Tundra starts barking up a storm; that's how we usually know they're here. We just go out on our deck and peek around the corner where the trash can is and there they are - about 30 feet from us. Trust me, Tundra is usually standing BEHIND us when that happens. She never gets close. She just barks her fool head off, like THAT'S going to make a difference!! :rotfl2:

We have a chest freezer in the garage and one night when we forgot to shut the garage door, a bear came in, opened the freezer, and took out a package of hot wings!!

Did it take some beer to go with them wings:rotfl2:

Okay, I won't complain about the coyotes and raccoons any
more!

Poor bear! You know when he got back to the den all he heard was....
"What, you didn't get the beer? What kind of bear are you anyway"
and from his wife, MamaBear
"Must I do everything my self, hot wings with no beer, what were you thinking?":rotfl2:

I just spent 3 whole uninterrupted days in the woods with my DH and DS who are both grade A dorks and never cease to keep me convinced of that. :rotfl2:

Just wanted to say Happy 4th of July to everyone!! :cheer2:

We're leaving the next morning for Nebraska for fireworks and DH's nephew's wedding. Will be back late Saturday or mid-Sunday.

Stay safe, all. :cool1:

Happy Monday!!

Back from our trek to Nebraska.

Had a good time. We have a new tradition - we stopped in North Platte on the way there and back to race go-carts!:car: It's the half-way point and it gets us out of OUR car and a little exercise. Nothing like letting out a little aggression on one of your loved ones by "bumping" them on the slicktrack!! :lmao:

The wedding was nice. Very low key. The reception was all right, although the groom's grandparents (my DH's sister's inlaws) don't drink and are VERY judgmental of their immediate family members who do. So my sister in law and my nephew had to wait until the "other" grandparents left the reception before they could have a glass of wine or a beer. Sad, really. Meanwhile, on OUR side of the family, we're hitting the cash bar pretty hard. Good thing we spent the night at the hotel where the reception was held! :)

Not really much going on here. DH and I are taking a big, 5-mountain pass motorcycle ride on Saturday that ends up in Breckenridge. We're going to spend the night there. That's about it.

I hope everyone is having a good day!! :goodvibes

Hey All - it's football camp week, DD has a dentist appt. and DS's car needs to get to the mechanic in town arrrghhhh, and I really really need my hair weaved the gray is taking over!
I cooked up 120 burgers on my grill last night along with a couple of the booster folks this after hauling 36 cases of Gatorade and 30 cases of water from the store to the trucks, from the trucks to the snack bar and then to a boosters garage when the snack bar was full. We are serving a daily meal to approx. 300 players for the next 3 days. I gotta be at the school at 2:30 to start cutting up watermelon!
Going to be crazy, oh yeah and it is only supposed to be between 101 and 103 this week!...............
DS was saying goodbye to his bed, his cat and the shower last night since he won't be back home until Thursday afternoon. His air mattress is all filled up in my van. What a princess: I have all the fixins to make him and his tent mates my signature italian sub sandwiches! Catch up with you all the end of the week.

DS has his first "girlfriend" I'll have to give you all the details later, but I can say my son is a chest man! My DH about died when I made that comment (not in front of DS)

Sandy: Glad you had a good time. The car place sounds fun, I love those little traveling traditions that families come up with. To bad about the non-drinking relatives, being the rebel that I can be I would have been tempted to start some type of shot contest right at their table:rotfl:

How did DD do at wolf camp - any more mice stories????

Horseshowmom: How did your conference go? Any 4-star hotels in your future?

Pam: Continuing to think about you

You all have a great week

Melissa

Happy Friday, everyone!!! :goodvibes

I am NOT in a mood to work, and that's tough, because I have a lot to do today! Have to force myself to get in the mood.

So how did the football camp go, Melissa? Hopefully well, with no injuries.

Also, congratulations to DS on the girlfriend. A "chest man", huh? :rotfl: You'll have to fill us in on the details.

DS is still dating girlfriend, although she's down in Phoenix for some sort of conference. They are getting along "okay", but not wonderfully, and he is going to the movies tomorrow night with another girl "as a friend", he says, but with my casanova son, who can tell? Girlfriend has been very moody and blows hot and cold with her emotions to DS, and I think he's getting tired of the drama. :lmao:

I hope that your DD is enjoying her summer!! :cool1:

DD did have a good time at the wolf preserve. No mice issues this time, thank goodness. :)

I just booked a little summer trip for our family. We're flying to Orlando on August 1st and returning on the 6th. Will do Universal/IOA (our favorite) and try Busch Gardens for the first time. May go to WDW, but I'm not sure as of yet. If we do, it may be either Epcot or MK. We stay at one of the Universal Resorts to get that Front of the Line Access. That alone is worth the price of the hotel. I swear I could ride Men in Black 20 times in a row - and we have come close to that in that past!! ;) It will be HOT, but that gives us a good reason to enjoy Ripsaw Falls. :yay:

DS has to be back to do high school registration on the 8th. He's already pre-registered, but that day he has to confirm his schedule, make changes, get his locker, parking pass, order yearbook, etc. School starts the following week on the 16th.

His senior photographs turned out wonderfully. We are very happy with the results. Now I have to choose them and (yikes) pay for them as well!!

DD will get possession of her apartment in Boulder on the 3rd, but since we'll be out of town, her roommate will pick up her key. She'll probably move up there around the 12th or so. DH is especially sad that his little girl will be moving out, probably for good as her lease is a year-long one. :guilty: She wants to head up there early to get a job lined up. I don't think classes start until around the 27th, though.

Well, that's about it around here. Taking a 5-mountain pass motorcycle ride tomorrow that ends in Breckenridge. Spending the night and going to a street fair in Vail on Sunday morning before riding back. In-between now and then, I've got to get some work and laundry done!!

I hope everyone has a good weekend. Horseshowmom, Pam, and Eliza, please pop back in when you get a moment. I think about all of you from time to time.

Hi All

Sandy, I can so relate to the being at work, with lots of work to do and not wanting to do any of it! Sounds like you have a great weekend all lined up, have fun and be safe. (I am doing nothing except the weekly trip to the library)

Your little vacation sounds wonderful. We have never done Universal but we have visited and enjoyed Busch Gardens, especially the place where you can sample the beer (free) my FIL loves it! They have a live show called KaTonga, it is the best show I have ever seen and I highly recommend it. I enjoyed it more than the new Little Mermaid show at AK. My DS loves their rides, especially Sheikra which he drags his poor Dad onto. I still have their voice mail recording of them on the ride on my cell phone and it still cracks me up.

I'm so glad DS's pictures came out! I don't envy you having to pick out the ones you want. I can never decide, I want them all! Remember when they were babies and the whole packet from JC Penny Portrait Studio was like $39.99 and it came with a gazillion poses and a gazillion pictures! I had to buy the whole dang thing because I couldn't part with a single pose, even if it was not a good picture, it was still cute!

I got the flyer for the "school yearbook approved" photographer and the sitting information to get the pix in the yearbook. At this point we are going to do the sitting for the yearbook ($15) and look at outside photographers.

Yesterday, I got the Canon Digital Rebel that I have been wanting for forever (This is my 3rd Rebel, but the 1st digital one) I may try my hand at some portraits and if I don't like them then I have a photographer in mind. I think I am losing it, I was reading the flyer out loud to DH and was getting choked up :sad1: literally - I think it is going to be a really long year for me.

I can so relate to how your DH feels about your DD moving away from home. I am a wreck just thinking about it. Glad there were no mice encounters this trip.

DD is busy with her summer camp. She has been swimming, skating, mini golfing, bowling, movies etc.....along with countless games of kick ball, mushroom ball and anything else they can come up with to do with a ball. She especially loves the bi-weekly trip to the library and then she and I go every Saturday, since she is becomming a book hound like her Mother. This week I read the James Patterson 4th of July and 5th Horseman (the 1st to Die series) Love Alex Cross! Tomorrow we go and get more.......yeah!:cool1: She will go back to school on 8/8

DS doesn't start school until the 27th of Aug, but mandatory football ends 7/26 and starts back up on 8/8 - I have to go in next week on the 18th and do his "Clearance" which is basically the same as your registration. I have to pay all his fee's, put the deposit on the yearbook, turn in the AP History book he still has:rolleyes: and turn in his Athletic packet & Physical form so that he can be "cleared" for Fall sports.

I'll update on the new girlfriend over the weekend or Monday - can we say interesting................:rolleyes1 She is not prone to drama, she is too busy being a tomboy - the lack of drama is one of the things I think DS is attracted to. He hates girl drama and won't put up with it.

Camp.....I am sooooo tired I can hardly think. Over the last 3 days I have cut up 80 watermelons, hauled countless cases of water and Gatorade as well as enough ice to make our own rink. We cooked, served and cleaned up. Then went home to do prep for the next day; slice oranges, watermelon, tomatoes etc.............. Oh and in case you guys didn't catch on, I am a sissy LaLa. I don't do heavy physical anything! I hate to sweat and am really a big wuss:upsidedow

Background: One of the Reasons I like the head Coach so much is that along with football he is helping to teach my son and the rest of the boys how to be young men, not just football players. He is HUGE on respect to others, especially parents, volunteers and staff as well as accountability(one of my Fav's). He puts up with no crap and is very quick to handle a "situation"

As happens every year........ The Freshman got a quick lesson :rotfl2: from a very angry head coach on Day 1. (It never takes them very long) Coach, who was heard to say "You will respect these ladies who have done this for you" as he was blowing a whistle and making them run up and down the bleachers. This after they left a god awful mess and then gave us mouth when we told them to pick it up.

We love this part - inevitably one of them will complain, "but I didn't do anything, I cleaned up my mess" and our response is "Welcome to being a team" "1 member of the team screws up, the team pays" Sure enough by day 3 there was not a piece of trash to be found and no mouth to us from them, all we have to say is "Do we need to get Coach?". The annual initiation of the Freshman:laughing: We secretly look forward to it every year insert: evil grinning chuckling twisting hands smilie

Football camp was a huge success. They came, they slept(JV & Varsity) Freshman have not earned the right and are sent home at night. They ate and they sweated their fannies off. I always feel bad for the California teams since the altitude here can be a killer. The weather semi-cooperated by giving us thunderstorms Tues & Wed which kept things a little cool. The bad thing was the T-storm on Tues caused a huge fire (5K acres in 24 hrs) within about 10 miles of the H.S. where all the boys were camped out, they got to breath in all the smoke and everything was covered with ash come Wednesday morning. Then it rained lightly which helped to clean up the air and keep things cool.

Wednesday afternoon all the boys headed to the waterpark to cool off for a couple of hours then back to the school for a huge pot luck style meal. My DS was able to come home every night for a shower (a hard earned Varsity priviledge that few of them got)Yesterday, was bright, sunny and hot! Oh well, 2 out of 3 days isn't bad considering that it is usually in the low 100's during camp.

Well now, the hour I spent typing this all the while looking like I was working away has me much that much closer to going home.............

I hope you all have a fun weekend and HorseshowMom, Pam & Eliza hope to hear from you guys soon.

Thanks for the advice. We'll definitely have to see the show. We love thrill rides, so this sounds like a great place to go.

You have to try Universal/IOA - at our kids' ages, they aren't as much into Mickey and such; Universal is more their style. (Although I was really bummed when we went to Disneyland in March over spring break, and Splash Mountain was closed - I need a fix!!)

Im so glad DS's pictures came out! I don't envy you having to pick out the ones you want. I can never decide, I want them all! Yes, I do remember those days fondly. I was just looking at some kids' photos today. I LOVE photos. They make me happy - on the other hand, DH looks at the photos when the kids were small and it makes him sad because they aren't that size any more and he wants to turn back the clock, and he can't.

I got the flyer for the "school yearbook approved" photographer and the sitting information to get the pix in the yearbook. At this point we are going to do the sitting for the yearbook ($15) and look at outside photographers.
Good luck. Are you going to try and use your camera to do some of your own senior pictures. The camera sounds wonderful - I am jealous!

I can so relate to how your DH feels about your DD moving away from home. I am a wreck just thinking about it.
Actually, I got choked up the summer after DD's junior year too. And DH and I cried all the way home after we dropped DD off at college last August. But it got better (most of the time) in about a week. It helps if your kid is happy where they're going to school.

DD is busy with her summer camp. She has been swimming, skating, mini golfing, bowling, movies etc.....along with countless games of kick ball, mushroom ball and anything else they can come up with to do with a ball.

I got tired just READING all of this!!! :rotfl: I'm glad that things went so well. You're lucky to have such supportive coaches.

Poor little freshmen . . . ;)

Well now, the hour I spent typing this all the while looking like I was working away has me much that much closer to going home.............
Then I guess we've accomplished our purpose!!!!! :lmao: Me too!!

Have a great weekend!!!

Girlfriend has been very moody and blows hot and cold with her emotions to DS, and I think he's getting tired of the drama.

I know exactly what he means! One of the things that DD's BF has always liked best about her is her LACK of girl drama (for the most part ;) ). She can't even stand it herself when other girls act like they do sometimes (take after her mother on this one!). I can understand how it could wear on a guy's nerves (even is she is basically a nice girl).

try Busch Gardens for the first time.

I went when I was a kid, and DD has been begging to go for years, but we haven't made it. She's a rollercoaster junkie, and they've got some great ones!

I swear I could ride Men in Black 20 times in a row

We're the same way! I think you may have us beat though. I think our highest (in a row) was 18 times. We ran out of time, and the ride closed, or we would have caught up with you for sure!

DH is especially sad that his little girl will be moving out, probably for good as her lease is a year-long one.

I'm glad your DH is like mine. It amazes me how many people don't seem to care if their kids are around or not - really pretty sad...

the lack of drama is one of the things I think DS is attracted to. He hates girl drama and won't put up with it.

I addressed this issue above! :rotfl2: I think he's a smart boy! Good luck with the new GF... :rolleyes1

One of the Reasons I like the head Coach so much is that along with football he is helping to teach my son and the rest of the boys how to be young men, not just football players. He is HUGE on respect to others, especially parents, volunteers and staff as well as accountability(one of my Fav's). He puts up with no crap and is very quick to handle a "situation"

As happens every year........ The Freshman got a quick lesson from a very angry head coach on Day 1. (It never takes them very long) Coach, who was heard to say "You will respect these ladies who have done this for you" as he was blowing a whistle and making them run up and down the bleachers. This after they left a god awful mess and then gave us mouth when we told them to pick it up.

Hallelujah and hooray! I agree more than 100%! They need to appreciate the work that's done on their behalf, but so often, nobody has taught them that at home. I appreciate that he's teaching them that (for their own sakes, if nothing else). Good for him!

I may try my hand at some portraits and if I don't like them then I have a photographer in mind.

A few years ago, DD's picture (along with her horse) was on the cover of a Tennessee APHA (American Paint Horse) breed organization's magazine. The pictures that DH took wound up being better than professional ones, and that was the picture that was used. You may turn out to be very pleased with your own shots.

I have a couple of friends who did that, and they turned out great (and much cheaper). They just looked over some other photos for ideas, and then kind of did their own thing.

Either way, good luck!

A short update on me (because I don't have much time left) -

DD's BF was officially hired for the job he wants, and he's pretty excited. He's suggested a couple of times that he can afford to start looking for a ring now :rolleyes1 , but she insists that she wants to be 21 first (next year). He's a sweetie...

She interviewed for the scholarship today. She said they told her very plainly that they were very impressed with her and actually said that they would be lucky to get her.

One glitch - the scholarship is normally only for the last 3 years of school, and she has 4 more years until she's done with pharmacy school. None of the paperwork said that, and when she called to ask about it, they told her that as long as she had been accepted to pharmacy school, she was eligible.

One good point - The interviewers told her that they were going to talk to whomever makes such decisions and request that the scholarship be extended to 4 years in her case, so they could get her in the program (you go to work at that hospital after you graduate). They said that they would really like to have her. She's supposed to know something in 2 - 3 weeks. Cross your fingers!

DH had hemmorhoid (sp?) surgery earlier this week, and it has been a nightmare. He's had a horrible time (excrutiating pain). He's supposed to go next week for 3 days in a row to an ear specialist for a procedure on his ears, but I don't think he's going to be able to make it. :sad2:

Between work, DH, and DD, I haven't had much time to breathe last night. I've been sleeping on the couch, so DH can rest better, and I'm really tired. I'm scheduled to be at doctor's offices with him 4 out of the 5 days next week (and we live about a hour and a half away from the doctor's offices).

I just keep reminding myself, "this too shall pass". ;)

Take care!
