Less than thrilled with the Boardwalk...

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience. We have stayed at BWV almost every year since '99 during the first weekend and June and have never heard the noise from the big party at MGM on Saturday night (They have it every year). We happened to be at BCV this year and didn't hear it way over there either. I can assure you that they noise you experienced is not normal for the BWV.

Here's what they sold your good night's sleep for:

Friday, June 4
Beach Ball
DJ Lydia Prim 18 and up Typhoon Lagoon 8 PM - 2 AM
$75

Saturday, June 5
Hollywood: The Party
SNEAK PREVIEW PARTY from 9:30pm to 10:30pm: Can't wait to get the party started? Join us at the Star Wars attraction: STAR TOURS for music, drinks and a thrilling ride on the Star Tours attraction.
DJ Tony Moran 18 and up
MGM Studios 10:30 PM - 3 AM
$85

We were there in Sept '01 and there was a private function at MGM with fireworks around midnight. Thank goodness it did not go on longer.
I was there last year during the first week in June. No private party at MGM that year though.
Sorry you had a sleepless night, that would have driven me crazy. Not the partiers fault, it all lies with Disney I am afrad. They control the sound system and what is allowed. Hopefully they will learn from their mistake and keep the volume lower next time!

TnRobin,
Could you please tell me what part of the thread was off topic.
I didn't see any post commenting on other peoples life style.
As far as I can see you were the only one that even brought this up.

Please enlighten me.

Thank you

Here's my comment on lifestyle choices: If WDW CHOOSES to allow any group to party loudly until 3am and keep a luxury resort full of people awake -- that is unacceptable. For heaven's sake -- it's WDW and not Vegas.

This is a definite signal that WDW is not following a policy of benign tolerance of this lifestyle celebration, but one of ACTIVE support. contrary to what we've been told. (No comment on any particular lifestyle here, just on Disney's policy.)

My point being:

I will continue to strictly avoid WDW during this certain time of June. The reasons to do so keep accumulating.

PS Did I walk the line OK here?

Some posts that I saw this afternoon have been deleted. Jokes/comments about gay song or band choices.

Ok I stand corrected.

I did not know of any derogatory postings.

I have been enlightened.

Think this same idea could affect SSR, with DTD (noise factor). I guess only thing that could get loud would be Pleasure Island, but that doesn't get rented out, does it?

Was it a gay party?

The only reason I ask is that my family was in Disneyland last year during the Anneheim "Gay Day" (I never knew such events existed at Disney). The first day was at DL and the second was at CA. Everone involved (gay) wore red shirts. They were EVERYWHERE!! The parks were jammed!!

One funny note: A family who showed up all wearing red shirts were shortly in the gift shop purchasing new shirts. I thought that was so funny and vain!! We laughed for months about that.

I agree with an earlier post about WDW being at fault. Why would they book a party this late and have the base this loud? It makes no sense to me. I can see that it is the only time available to throw the party but why oh why does the music need to be THAT LOUD? I've been on the boardwalk during Illuminations and you can't hear the music at all (just the fireworks). Those of us who've attended Illuminations (better be all of you!! pirate: ) will remember that we had no trouble hearing the music. It did not need to be louder and it did NOT need a lot of base.

IMHO---> Tone it down for the parties Disney!!

I guess you had a std view room overlooking the parking lot /front entrance because thats the closest rooms to MGM.Sorry to hear about the super loud noise.

That was kind of my thought, too. The OP must have been in a room that got the brunt of some kind of sound wave "bounce off" from one of the buildings. Bad luck. We stayed at BCV during the same week last year, and there were no noisy nights, and I'm a very light sleeper.

My other thought was, how could people stand to be in the park if it were that loud?

I would be upset too and would have complained to the front desk. Maybe the DVC managers would have more luck complaining to WDW about noise level. Im sure Swan guests also experienced the hassle.

We just got back from our wonderful Disney vacation, but of course something had to go wrong, anyway we stayed at the Boardwalk from 5/31 to 6/6 and up until the last night I thought it was so beautiful that I couldn't wait to stay there again for our next trip, however on the last night as we were putting the baby down to sleep early because we had to be up by 6am for our flight back home I noticed a banging noise in the bedroom. I sent my DH to see what room the music was coming from but when he came back in the room and said it wasn't coming from the hotel I was quite perplexed. My DH called the front desk to inquire about the noise that literally sounded like a rave party in our hotel room. He was told that a big group rented out MGM studios for the night and the party would be going on until 3am! My DH said to them " you don't really expect me to listen to this noise until 3am do you? Nelson, the front desk manager said he would see what he could do about it, and he was getting tons on complaints. After an hour of getting nowhere and listening to the boom, boom, boom reverberating on my pillow I went to the front desk and Nelson was too chicken to come out and talk to me in person so he sent Lori to talk to me. Lori was very nice and gave us our points back for the night which was a very nice gesture but none of us got any sleep which was what we really needed. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm 30 yrs old and love a good party, but trust me when I say it sounded like a car was parked in the living area and the bass was banging. Some other guy was there for a convention and told them he was going to check out if the music didn't stop.
Finally at 3am there was silence. We were exhausted the whole way home yesterday and will NEVER stay at the Boardwalk again due to all the cavalier attitudes we encountered that night. I was told by Lori that it was rented out for gay week and when I asked her then since this happens every year, why weren't we forewarned that we would feel like we were staying at a Motel 6 for the night she just shrugged her shoulders.
The rest of our trip was amazing and I will post a report later. Thanks for letting me vent.

What, pray tell, did you really expect the hotel manager to do?

Carol is right, it's not that it's loud it's the decibels of the bass which could be lowered. It's very similar to the blast sound you get from fireworks, except the fireworks don't go on and on. It will literally shake the windows and raddle the doors.

Where I live we have some drive by teens that do the same thing and it shacks the pictures on my walls.

Sad as eventually they are all going to be deaf. :(
Isn't there some sort of limit on noise? I know in our neck of the woods we were having issues w/a local airport expansion....they were flying larger and larger jets in just over the houses...made my windows rattle! Our recourse was checking sound decibels. I believe there's a federal limit for aircraft. Too bad Disney doesn't have a self-regulated decibel limit. Would certainly help everybody get along::yes::

I too think it was an impossible situation for the resort. There is nothing BWV could do about it, and I wouldn't let that one night's experience ruin BWV for you in the future.

But you see there is something the resort management can do about it. They can complain to WDW upper management, call or at a meeting they probably have, tell WDW upper management about these complaints. They may be a seperate division within WDW but there is an overall head of WDW and he reports to Mr. Eisner(that another problem). If enough complaints are lodged and the managers of the resorts complain enough, they may do something about the noise level. You know the old saying "the door that squeaks the most get oiled first". I know once when we were staying at the Poly, we could hear the cars at the Indy track they built way too close to the Poly. Did not hear them the last time but it was very annoying to say the least....smjj

ok, what do you expect the manager to do at 1 in the morning? It could have been handled the next day. I don't think the manager was too "chicken", but I think the OP was a bit over-agitated.

I don't expect the management to do anything at 01:00 A.M. As I stated, they can complain to upper management at WDW at meetings or via memos or something. That may get a policy inplace for furture events that could curb the noice levels that several others posters have talked about. You are correct, at 01:00 there is not much they can do except note it and report it..smjj

let me get this straight.....there was a loud party at a theme park until late in the night...you complained....the hotel rsponded by giving you the night for free....and your issue is what???.....i mean is the insinuation that the manager should have donned his cape and tights, and flown over to MGM to stop the party forthwith....your issue is with WDW, and not the management of the hotel, they gave you the night for free. I would say that was pretty generous, and enyone who has ever seen a post of mine knows that I love to take DVc management to task.

Oh...and coming from a state that actually "gets it" when it comes to alternative lifestyles...I think Its great that they have those days at disney.....but they should turn it down a couple of notches!!

Wow! I should have known the flaming would begin when I first posted this. Someone asked if we had a standard view and the answer is no, we had a preferred view. Someone else stated that I seemed "overagitated" you try to sleep in a room banging with drum noise from 12pm until 3am and you tell me how you'd be with a 19 month old not able to sleep and having to get up at 6am to leave to go home! Another point is yes, I did get my points back but that didn't give me or my family our sleep back. I was staying in Disney for God's sake, not Vegas! My problem with the manager is that he didn't even come to talk to me in person, he sent another front desk manager that I never had any prior conversations with. Just be glad that none of you had to experience what we went through and take my post for what it's worth. If you don't feel like it was a worth while post, just ignore it. Thanks to everyone else that understood how frustrating this situation was for us and I'm sure a lot of others.
