Length in time/hrs for Baby Shower UPDATE Post #76 Pg 4

Sounds as if there's a lot more to the dynamics of the relationship between hostess and guests than just shower times.

2 hours is fine. I don't really believe in showers for 2nd or after weddings or babies unless the people invited did not go to one the first time. I think in those cases people can give individual gifts if they want.

Reminds me of when my brother was going to get married for the 3rd time and it was going to be a small wedding. He mentioned that he hoped the cousins wouldn't be mad that he could not invite them. I said they already went to 2 weddings for you, I don't think they will be mad. The wedding was called off shortly after anyway (which explains why it was the 3rd....).

Uh huh.. :D

. I found out an interesting fact though when Dsil leaned over, and asked me if I'd ever been to their home before?

Well, I wasn't about to lie so I said yes, a couple of times. That's when Dsil told me this was her first time, and that they'd never been invited! .
So the MOTHER of the Niece-or her DH had never been in their HOME??? terrible

The other is that the punch had a foamy like texture, and there were 3 "Rubber Duckies" floating around in it. It looked precious but, I'm wasn't sure about drinking it because of the ducks!

.

I swear I don't think I have seen "punch" at a shower since the 1970's LOL- cracks me up when people say they had "punch".

Really? I've always seen punch served at showers and also at many birthday and Christmas parties. I serve it at the birthday parties I host and get rave reviews. I serve mine from a glass beverage dispenser and not a punch bowl though.

Last shower I went to they had margarita "punch". Was very tasty and not for kids but none where invited.

OP here, I'm back home that is. So.. Dnil hostess of the shower, and brother of the niece who the shower was for let Dsil know with no uncertain terms the shower was now over. However, because we left before she did I'll hear about how it (her leaving) went later in the week. I found out an interesting fact though when Dsil leaned over, and asked me if I'd ever been to their home before?

Two things are worth mentioning; one was that Dnil (Hostess) didn't mind at all that some of we older guests did not participate in the games. The other is that the punch had a foamy like texture, and there were 3 "Rubber Duckies" floating around in it. It looked precious but, I'm wasn't sure about drinking it because of the ducks!

Alas, I drank it anyway. :)

Well that's all for now. Night all.

That punch sounds like the staple of wedding receptions and showers I attended way too many years ago. It was made with a carton of sherbet combined with a large bottle of 7-Up and blended with a hand mixer. They called it frappe (frah-pay.) They didn't include any Rubber Duckies, possibly because it was before the days of Sesame Street and their Rubber Duckie song.

Almost every shower I have attended served punch. My sister's baby shower was last year and they served mimosa punch since it was a brunch.

Actually I'm wrong, the last shower I attended was for my SIL this past summer. But they also had punch.

I used to love that punch as a kid. It was at the last shower I went to (over the summer) but I can't handle it anymore. TOO sweet with all the other stuff!

I have one friend (40's) that always serves punch at parties. I think it is vodka, champagne, soda and sherbert. It is always in a traditional glass punch bowl....and at Halloween it is complete with floating eyeballs!

Most showers it is beer or wine for lunch or mimosas and bloody mary's added if it is a brunch. I find most people don't go for the full open bar package for showers.

Sangria or mimosas are popular at showers around here. Coed wedding showers are becoming popular as well. My friends insisted on holding a baby shower for my second son but it was very different from my first. I asked for donations of diapers/wipers or new or gently used baby items for a local charity in lieu of gifts since I didn't need any gear. A few friends bought treats for me though like a massage gift certificate and pampering items. My older son "co-hosted" it and so he had some of his friends there. They had fun decorating onesies for his future brother and then they ran off to play together while the adults socialized. The first time around I had a coed family shower hosted by a cousin and a girlfriends' shower hosted by a friend at a local tea place.

Our Dn is to undergo an emergency C-Section this afternoon following being induced yesterday. My brother, and Dsil are having a difficult time (worry, and exhaustion) they are in their 70's, and this is their only daughter. Their first grandchild their son's boy is now 10 years old.

Prayers for our darling baby Grace, and the family appreciated.

When my beloved cousin, a great guy with poor judgement, was engaged for the third time, we saw him on a family trip. He commented about his discomfort at inviting people to a third wedding, but didn't want his latest bride to feel he wasn't celebrating this time. My hubby said "I think we'll skip the 13 hour drive for this one. Let us know when you're having a 5th anniversary party and we'll come to that!" Luckily, my cousin saw the humor in it :). He's made it 8 years so far!
