My DS6 wants LEGO's for Christmas....4 of them being over $99.99.

Anyone know where, how or what to do to get a Lego coupon?? Or do they ever make them??

Thanks so much!!

Lego.com has free shipping on items over $99 but that's the only one I've encountered. Lego is very stingy with their coupons unfortunately.

ETA - unless you are planning on building the sets with him or he is very advanced with his building skills I wouldn't recommend buying the $100+ sets. They are very very complicated. My oldest has trouble with some of them. One set took him over a month to build.

The best deal I have seen so far on Legos has been TRU's buy 2, get one free deal. I think we'll see that price again before Christmas.

Some of the expensive sets aren't that hard to build. I think the City series sets are easier than a lot of the sets like Star Wars, etc. Heck, my DS is 4,5 and he wants the big sets, too. We will be helping him build them for sure!

Someone mentioned in another thread that Kmart might have a buy 2 get 1 free deal on black Friday, but I don't know if that's confirmed.

Target has some sets on sale on B.F for 49.99 I have no idea what sets they are though. I am hoping it will be Lego City.

I got my son the big pirate ship last yr, I think normally 99.00 got it for 79.99 at toyrus on one of those 2 day sales.

MY ds7 wants to start on the lego city stuff. My issue with his is that he tends to put the sets together and then take them apart mixing up the pieces. I explained to him that if we started this.. it is meant to stay together as a city and to be played with that way.

It has been at least 8 months since I have bought him a set so I am hoping that phase has disappeared.

A close friend of ours son is 6 and he NEVER takes his legos apart and if he does he is very particular and keeps all pieces in ziplocks with instructions . :confused3 Go figure .. kids can be so different!

If you have a Lego outlet store by you they have a loyalty club card where you can get gift cards after so much in purchases. They also have "scratch and dent" stuff. My DH is a Lwgo fanatic, along with my sons. We go there often and have bought the big DeathStar set for $80 because the box was kind of crumpled.

Other than that, just watch TRU. They had a B1G1 this summer, and maybe they will try that again between now and XMas.

My boys ahve the lego city fireman and police sets in full and they are all in pieces, mixed up but the instructions are there. We don't have room to store them while they are together. Our dog would gladly bite off any pieces we left out.

In the Target coupons, ther is one for Lego'. Only $5 I think. I just got the best deals for next year tho, my DBrothers BIL just started working for Lego corporate and gets 50% off everything ! Can't wait to take advantage of that.

I think Sears online has discounts on some of their Lego sets. Our sears has a "Christmas" toy section that is only set up this time of year and they will have sales on the Legos as well.

Also check Amazon. I put a few Lego sets in my cart, then move them to "saved items" and watch for the price to go down. Right now they have the Venator cruiser (#8039) for $93 (normally $119). And shipping is free if you spend over $25.

Sometimes its best just to google the set you are looking for and find the lowest price that way.

I was reading your post and it sounds like you are describing my 7yo son! LOL! He does the exact same thing....I have learned to "let go" of the Legos and let him enjoy them the way he wants to. He will build them, play with them for a few days, take them apart and put the pieces into his Lego box, and then rebuild things that he dreams up. Oh well.......

Whenever I put Amazon items in my cart, the price usually goes UP!
I have learned the hard way to go ahead and buy it if I want it bad enough.

Ditto! The beauty of Legos is they CAN be used all different sets together. Think outside the box (literally) and they come up with even more wonderful things.

My DS is 13, and just did research for a boy scout merit badge on how to become a Lego designer. :)

If it is a popular set or one he really wants for Christmas be careful waiting too long for a sale because they do sell out of them and it can be months till they are back in stock.

As far as taking so long to build that seems to be part of the "male" attraction to these things. I know my DD wanted it to be built and playing with it or she didn't like it Where my DS seems to enjoy the challenge of putting the large sets together as much as when he is done and playing with them. And it seems on here most of the posters saying oh it takes so long, etc are women. I always love seeeing how different men and women really are on a basic gut level.

My local Children's Museum carries lots of legos in their gift shop and they offer discounts to members and employees/volunteers. I got DS the Duplo firehouse for 40% off! :woohoo:

Going to second the post that Toys R us does alot of buy 2 get 1 free. Sometimes they are on sale on top of that.

If you have a Borders near you, join their rewards porgram. I've been getting 30% off anything coupons from them regularly, every now and then I get a 40% off anything in the store one. They have some good lego sets in the childrens section. I got the lego advent calendar for 18.00.

:surfweb:

I'm planning to Lego City items for my DS8 for Christmas, too, but they are SOOOO expensive! I'm with all you who are watching for sales!

If you decide to buy online and are a upromise member, Lego.com gives I believe 3% to your upromise account. I have done this even with my Kohl's coupon and received the upromise percentage. If you are a upormise member you should always check to see if the merchant/company participates.

We have turned our Thomas the Tank engine table into a lego table. The table takes the place of a coffee table in my family room.. thank goodness I have a living room too. If we only had one living space, we wouldnt be able to do it.
