Me and a coupe friends had this discussion, and I'm actually in favor of this move. The Govt. probably won't go thru w/this simply b/c they think its out of their control. However, they can decriminalize it, tax it and sell it. They can make a nice profit off it, and create some new jobs. Not only this, but it can also be the foundation to kill off some of these drug wars, and cartel that plague this country. Our prisons would be less full. Another drug that I feel should be decriminalized is Cola/"Coke"(not coccaine), what are your thoughts????

From a psychiatric point of view, I condemn recreational use but back medical use.

I don't think a person should go to jail for smoking pot. In California you can get a medical card and get pot legally any time you want to. You don't have to be dying of cancer to get one. You could have panick attacks, depression and a number of other things.

Maybe that is the way to go for other states. That way it is controlled in some way.

We definitely don't need to clog up our courthouses with cases of possession of marijuana.

I don't know what Cola is. I thought you were referring to cocaine, but you said you weren't. So I have no idea what this is.

I think the prohibition of Marijuana is quite ridiculous, especially when a nonviolent offender gets a lengthy jail sentence for having a good time.

"You had a good time, have fun with rapists and murderers for the next 5 years"

Coccaine is the crystaline substance that comes from the cola plant.

Marijuana should be as legal as alcohol. Taxed, regulated and distributed all along the same lines.

I guess I am old and out of the loop - but what is "Coke" that is not cocaine?

Decriminalizing is not legalizing it. You are mixing that up.

Yes I am 100% in favor of decriminalization. Child murders and molesters walk out of prision before someone who had some weed on them.

The laws are absolutely stupid and need to be changed.:sad2:

Then I'm sure you agree that the recreational use of alcohol is just as (if not more) destructive.

It seems to be a double standard in the government. Alcohol and tobacco are given fairly free reign (although taxed heavily). I think that marijuiana if government regulated and taxed on par with tabacco could provide a nice boost to the economy.

I'm one for keeping marajuana off the shelves. Hey, cocain, crack, and heroin all make people feel good, too! If you're not messed up, life can make you feel good. I'd like to see all tobacco products made illegal. But, that's just me.

I'm probably the last person in the world who would smoke it if it were (heck, I wouldn't even eat it in a brownie made with Valrhona chocolate and organic butter), but I think it should be legal.

A few years ago a special agent in my state died when his helicopter crashed while he was out trying to find it from the air. What a waste. The guy had three little kids. He should have been out catching real criminals, not rednecks growing a little pot.

Uh, anyone growing pot IS a real criminal... ::yes::

I think it should be legal, I have yet to see any studies that convince me of it being any more dangerous than alcohol or cigarettes. I definitely think it should be approved for medical use. To allow people to abuse such prescription medications as vicodin and oxycontin and not let them utilize weed is just silly. And I say all of this as someone who has no vested interest, having never tried it.

That being said, OP, your title is misspelled and it takes away from your question's credibility. ;)

Here is my view on this.

By villainizing marijuana, you take away the credibility of your stance on other drugs.
Children are taught that marijuana use is a horribly dangerous. Then when they try it, they figure out that this is not the case.
This leads many to believe that the other drugs are probably not as dangerous as they sound.
This is only my opinion of course, which I formed by working with both adult and teenage addicts.

Ah yes, I did confuse decriminalization w/legalizing, sorry for that

As I said before, coccaine is the crystalline substance that comes from I believe the Cola plant.

Yes, I know that. I am still unsure what you are talking about in your original post though.

Also, if you edit that original post, there will be a tab to "go advanced". This will allow you to correct your typo in the title. (Sorry - it is just a bother thing with me.)

ETA: Sorry, I see that it has been changed.

I agree with you. :thumbsup2

This is what I find confusing. You say that Coke is not cocaine. What is your definition of Coke/Cola?

I don't like weed but I am all for legalizing it. Just for the jobs alone!

If I could throw a switch I would have alcohol replaced with pot. Much less dangerous, both for society at large and the user.
