Left over Disney dollars

We got a LOT of Disney dollars as gifts this year. We have used quite a bit but have some left over. We will be taking one more trip to Disney in January before our passes expire. We DO NOT anticipate going back for a while because we are adopting a child from China this year and with added expenses and such we probably won't be able to afford Disney for a year, maybe two or three.

Can I cash them back in for regular money?

Thanks,

Dawn

Not sure what "A LOT" is. In theory you are supposed to have a receipt to turn them into cash (though as we know, nothing is written in stone). If you won't use them all on your room and incidentials, try to use the bigger bills to pay for small items and get real $$ back. If you explain to a CM why you are dividing your purchase, they might just give you cash depending on the amount. You can also use these for bellman tipping, mousekeeping, etc,

I would try to use them in January. I would think you could use them pretty quickly. But then I do not know what you have left.

We estimate that after paying for this trip we will still have almost $1,000 in Disney dollars.

You use them to buy nonexpiring tickets and just put them back for a future trip even if it is a few years out.

Wow...wish my family got that hint.

Why not consider buying passes to put away to allow you to go back sooner. (Not sure how much of this is to get cash and how much is to not have it sitting around).

I also think if you "put it all on your account upon arrival" and don't room charge enough you will have a good chance of getting cash back

Well, I am not sure I would buy passes with them since Disney dollars themselves don't expire anyway.

I honestly don't know when Disney will happen again. DH is looking at an overseas assignment in a couple of years and we may actually be gone for a couple of years.

I guess if worst comes to worst I could spend them in Downtown Disney for suveniers, toys and Lego stuff for future gifts.

Thanks,

Dawn

Our daughter is almost 8 now. The years go quickly! Save those disney dollars to take her to Disney (never too early ;) ) My sister adopted her daughter from China also. I am so excited for you.

$1,000 in DISNEY DOLLARS?! WOW!

I would feel like I had won the lottery!

Well...first I would contact the Disney store to see if it's possible to get cash for them.

If that's not possible, maybe you could purchase some non-expiring passes? Ticket prices are always increasing, so maybe it would be a good investment since you are planning on returning to WDW in the future but you don't know exactly when.

Good luck on the tickets...and on your upcoming adoption! (My aunt and uncle adopted two little ones from China...I love them to death!)

If you are going overseas, is it possible to use them at any of the other Disneyworlds which may be closer to you (Hong Kong, Tokyo, Paris??)

When you are at WDW, contact Guest Relations and explain that you would like to cash in your Disney Dollars. I have never had a problem trading them for "real" money. Your other option is to go to Downtown Disney and use the Disney Dollars to purchase one or more expensive pieces of Diamond/Gold Jewelry or Designer Art. When you return these items to the store with the receipt, they do not give you Disney Dollars back. They give you cash. So since Disney knows you can do this, I really believe you will have no problem getting your money from Guest Relations. Hope that helps.

We had about $800 left over from a trip awhile back and returned them for cash at guest relations in the magic kingdom. You can do that or just give them to me.

Yeah, they are in the mail! HA!

Thanks for letter me know about getting them changed into cash.

I don't know.....but we also don't know where we will end up. It is looking like possibly New Zealand, Switzerland or India.
