Nah. We’re talking about a small group of people with similar lives, histories, and experiences. It’s not even the entire family, just a very specific subset. Moreover, it’s not even necessary for them to have 100% agreement on the issue. They’re just on the same “side”. I don’t find it the least bit odd. My cousins are spread from CA to NC, but we all root for the same baseball team.

The farmers benefitted from it whether they were alive when apartheid went into action or not and they have to acknowledge and atone for that if the country is to move forward. Of course farming it isn't easy. I suggest you read up on apartheid and how it was designed to cripple a race for generations. There is no other choice. You can't say those victims should just forget about and move on.

The answer is not just to commit new atrocities against another set of people though....

Then what is it? Not trying to cause problems but what would it be. The Indians on reservations are given a lot. As far as I know none of then lived when their people were taken over by the European peoples. At some point it's time to take care of ones self and move on and stop blaming others.

Yep, you caught us. That’s what we do, we go from house to house and bully people into tailgating at college games, buying tickets to see the Saints and filling the sports bars every Sunday to watch the games. We beat them up if they don’t go. Of course there are exceptions.

There is no brainwashing or bullying going on.

The family that are LEOs and service members come from both sides of our families so some don’t even know each other. 3 live across country.

I think for myself, thanks. As does dh. We have some very lively debate about our differences of opinions. My sons are on opposite ends of most any spectrum. Dd thinks for herself too. And yet we are all fans of wrestling. We all watch the Saints and the Braves. All enjoying a sport or other entertainment doesn’t make us al have the same mindset. People here actually LIKE football and it’s a social thing.

Do you assume that everyone that votes a certain way can’t think for themselves? Or all go to a certain church? My close friend at work and I have the same favorite color? Are we not able to think for ourselves? Or perhaps the group of friends I have that like a certain TV show and enjoy watching together?

I'll make a note to watch for evidence of that in your future discussions.

My former soldier hubby was not offended. Nor would he let some troublemakers manipulate him into thinking he should be offended.

My husband is a vet and a LEO (and a Republican ) ... He doesn't care, neither do most of his friends in similar situations. Just like anything else, blanket statements like the previous poster made will never cover everyone.
