A lot of the SA farmers were babies when apartheid ended, or small children. In all three cases I stated they have this in common: innocent HUMAN BEINGS being viciously targeted because of their race or ethnic group.

I stand corrected. In the north I'm unfamiliar with entire categories or classifications of people thinking with a collective mindset. I agree with my husband enough to stay happily married nearly three decades. We still each think for ourselves quite happily. Apparently things in the south work differently.

I don’t think it’s at all unusual for people who are family, employed in similar professions, and live near each other to line up on the same side of a polarizing issue.

Not that this particular issue is even remotely related to this thread.

The effects of apartheid will go on for generations and its victims have been given no reason to trust SA farmers or Afrikaaner politicians. When you forcibly remove people from their homes and relocate them to shantytowns with no running water, close their businesses and ban them from working in any sustainable job, and gut the schools they are allowed to attend and limit their educational outcomes....well, who exactly are the innocent people that were targeted?

There is no answers since you can't turn back time ... the atrocities were committed by entirely different people. The farmers bought that land and had nothing to do with the atrocities, yet they are being forced off the land they purchased and now it will lie in the hands of people with no interest in, or ability to farm it. For the sake of revenge against who? The criminal oppressors have already moved on, either died or are just not there. Now the land will go unfarmed and people will starve. Great plan.

Read up on it. It's not like you can just make someone into a farmer especially with the complex nature of the SA land.

So the entire country of Australia is now racist because of what they did in one crisis vs another? So no one should help anyone for fear of offending one side or another? Is that better?

You do realize it’s not a competition?

You do realize Australia has a history of racism and genocide?

In my opinion that history plays a part in why visas are being granted now but were not during Apartheid.

Australia is granting visas to the skilled farmers who can contribute something to Australia. It is a very complicated mission to try to grow anything in the SA climate. These farmers are very accomplished have a lot to contribute.

They didn't commit the atrocities, but they are benefiting from them.

I've seen threads go off topic and change direction but this has to be a record. From Lebron opening a school to the anthem protests to people fleeing unhinged savages in South Africa.

It's the world's curviest road. In the spirit of education that started the thread I'll go with
this tread : message boards :: Lombard Street : roads

The farmers benefitted from it whether they were alive when apartheid went into action or not and they have to acknowledge and atone for that if the country is to move forward. Of course farming it isn't easy. I suggest you read up on apartheid and how it was designed to cripple a race for generations. There is no other choice. You can't say those victims should just forget about and move on.

Not even close to the most off-topic I've seen.

All not interested in football? In the south? You must be kidding. A southern perfect weekend is Friday night lights on the high school field, Saturday tailgating at the college game and Sundays is NFL. Or was.
Weekends: the perfect time to burglarize homes in the South. No I'm not serious, but I am skeptical. I don't doubt football is extremely popular, and maybe mid people attend games. I don't believe everyone is of the exact same mindset.

Vehemently disagree. I think it's highly unusual, even among families unless there's bullying/brainwashing involved.
